I'm going with Serena over Pennetta. Serena is better in every category, she has harder ground strokes off both wings, and a bigger serve. I expect Serena to punish Pennetta in straight sets.

Pennetta is ripping the ball too...she just can't finish pts as consistantly as Serena can tho.

IDK, I got a funny feeling a/b this one....Serena's gonna have to earn this victory, Flavia's not gonna give it to her.

I agree Serena will have to earn it but just by looking at the X/Os of the match on paper Serena should win. Bigger forehand, bigger backhand, and a bigger serve. Only way Pennetta has a chance if Serena doesn't play as expected or somehow gets injured.

You do know the match is going on right now, right? And Pennetta's more than hanging w/ Serena in the rallies, I'm impressed.

Spectacular end for a great match. Serena is in tip top shape, she is whacking that ball like it stole her Christmas, hard to see anyone stopping her.

Another boring and mediocre womens match. Ho hum, what else is new. No wonder nobody watches womens tennis these days.

That was a good quality match, Pennetta was doing more than hanging w/ Serena in the rallies, Serena really had to earn the win...some people just never will be happy...

If you find it so mediocre, stop watching. You're only wasting your own time...

The funniest thing is some people thought yet another of the mediocre talentless WTA hackers like Penetta would give Serena a tough time. Delusional, ROTFL! Womens tennis is Serena and the 7 dwarfes. Thank goodness the women and their crap are done for another day and now another great mens match to look forward to.

Smart poster. :) As expected the great Serena cruised and had no problem crushing the talentless Penetta. Cakewalk. The semifinal vs the overhyped Clijsters will probably be just as easy despite all the silly hype. Go SERENA!

Am i wrong in thinking that if Pennetta is talentless then it doesn't do much to prove Serena's greatness? In fact, if the WTA is just Serena and a bunch of hacks then that says more about Serena than it does about the rest of the field.

Serena proved she would be dominating the field even if it were very strong back in 2002-2003. It is not her fault the field is weak now and 2002-2003 proves she would still be dominating anyway if she felt like it. So no it is irrelevant to her.

Pennetta isn't even remotely talentless...jeez, what is wrong with you people??? Her strokes and movement alone are...well, they are top 10 in the world, and pretty freakin' awesome. HIGH QUALITY.

*shaking head*

Lambielspins...should we bring up the quality (or lack thereof) of last night's men's match?

Top 10 today is the equivalent of top 40 even 5 years ago so that doesnt mean anything. I know that you are the most blind poster on TW when it comes to cluelessness of this being the worst womens field in history though. You even think the current womens field is a strong field, LOL!

Last night? Djokovic played incredible tennis. Stepanek played decently but was just outplayed. How is that lack of quality. His winners/errors ratio was alot better than either Serena or Pennetta today I am pretty sure.

Both Serena and Flavia hit the ball clean and powerful, great movement, defense and offense.

For Pete's sake, look at the stats!!!

http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/stats/day15/2504ms.html

Look at the winners/UEs. Look at the friggin' breakpoints!

Either you are being facetious or you don't watch the tennis anymore and limit yourselves to repeat a mantra completely ignoring reality.

off topic.

What is a troll?

Funny thing that the "talentful" Williams needed to engage all her physical mental strenght (in her own words) to defeat the "talentless" PeNNetta (double "n", learn at least to correctly write her name, you mr.grafselesfan & lambielspins.. :) ).
However, the mere fact of rooting for Serena do not give you the right to personally insult other posters, isn't it mr.GSF?
And BTW from what you state you evidently are tennis FANS...but that does not automatically mean that you really understand something about tennis as a sport..obviously IMHO ;)

Cheers....

good post! :) I mean, i knew serena was derogatory and disrespectful of other members of the tour, but to actually call one of them "talentless" !!! Thats a new low of crassness, even for her.

From USO official site...

In a long point from the baseline indicative of the entire match, Williams hit a forehand pass down the line to wrap it up. She then did a two-handed fist-pump before going to the net to congratulate Pennetta on a hard-fought contest.

I believe that this one "talks respect" toward an opponent (from someone called "talentless") :)

I watched the Serena match last night while cleaning up and really Flavia didn't play that badly. It wasn't as easy as it looked. I hope Serena beats Kim now! Go Serena!

Pardon the musing, but I think it is one thing to be trollish and rude but another to be candid and accurate. There are only two players in the top 30 left in the draw (S. Williams and Wozniacki), so obviously it is a pretty shameful outing for all of women's tennis, while not meaning to take anything away from those who knocked off these supposedly great players or from these two ranked women left standing.

I have to add that the men aren't doing a lot better. One could say it is a sign of depth, but then that would mean we have seen some great tennis. In some cases perhaps, but mostly it has been a break fest all around and a service game contest with very mixed results. The best matches I saw were Navarro/Dent and definitely the second set of Zvonareva/Pennetta. Obviously, there could have been others.
