United could have also challenged if it wasn't for amateur-like wastefulness throughout the entire season. When it comes to big clubs' seasons, I don't really care about earnings, I care about trophies. You either win them or you don't.

La Liga tried to stop the deal but Barca accepted the money. To be fair I wouldn't mind seeing them miss out on all the big names, we are on the same page there. :D Just saying I understand their desperation to buy one. Maybe they will try something similar on Hazard. I am sure Coutinho will perform great for Liverpool this season, to give them maximum in his final year and to show himself good for Barca.

Pretty sure we will persist in trying for Couthinho , hopefully in the next few days , Dembele should follow soon afterwards...

Unfinished business with United. Wait and see.

Ibra was great last season , imagine what a time he would have with this setup ... Matic will make massive difference to the team / team play and to Pogba who will hopefully show just how good he really is ...

Feel a bit sorry for Hererra who was pretty damn good last season .... maybe he could come to Barca we need all the help we can get .....

Marco Asensio has scored on his:

-La Liga debut
-Copa del Rey debut
-UEFA Champions League debut
-UEFA Super Cup debut
-Supercopa de Espana debut

FIFA Club World Cup is the only club competition where he didn't score on his first appearance.

You think Barca can go for both of them?

Either way, their clubs aren't willing to sell while the contracts aren't a year away from expiring so there is no risk of having them leave for free.

FC Barcelona have completed the signing of 29 year old Ex-Tottenham midfielder Paulinho. Fees- 40 million euros (Source : Coach Scolari)

I don't really know much about him apart from being 29 and didn't do much at Spurs ( apparently ) . He's supposedly impressed for Brazil of late though and he can't be any less effective than Rakitic , Rafinha or poor old Iniesta .

Asensio is supposedly a long time Barca fan and he was apparently offered to us for 35 thousand euros before he chose Real :(

Real Madrid are a class apart sadly . We are lagging behind big time , I fear.

By my reckoning , the only way we can challenge for La Liga and the CL is IF we somehow secure the services of Cohthinho AND Dembele .... maybe even Dybala if we want to go head to head with Real Madrid .

As regards transfers - most Barca fans seem hopeful of getting BOTH at 150 million euros each ... maybe even a third ...

Nothing compared to 3 in your first 2 for the mighty Reds of Manchester. :p

But yeah, does look like he has awesome potential.

Herrera will be fine. Took time to get Mkhitaryan going last season, especially after the game at City. Assist for 2 goals yesterday. I'm just impressed. The commentator was saying Pogba was playing with the freedom of a kid in high school. Did look that way. Yes, only one game. I can't help it. Like @TheMuzziah says. It has been a while since United have challenged for the title. :p

Not sure if it was the best performance post Alex Ferguson golden age. Was very good though.

Damn. I can remember that Ravanelli hat trick on Middlesbrough premier league debut like it was yesterday. His celebration was copied by many in high school. :D Lukaku came close enough to equalling it.

I think you will be in contention for La Liga even if you don't sign anyone. Too good in this competition in recent years to be written off just like that while Real are the opposite. CL is a different story. Got to get past that quarterfinal stage, it's been a hurdle for you recently. :p;)

It would be stunning if Barca sign both. That defense could use an upgrade as well though.

The 5-0 away against Leverkusen under GOAT Moyes was pretty cool. :D 4-2 vs City and 2-1 away at Anfield under Van Gaal in 2015 were very enjoyable as well.

Hard not to get hyped. Looks like that was the most convincing win in 3 years or so. Would be really good if the team collects majority or all points in the first few games, the schedule isn't demanding yet.

I had my previous game of footy manager just stalling. Some amazing youngsters coming through. The good tihng about steam is you don't need to edit the datasbase. It does all that for you.

Tempted to get a new game up and running with this new United setup. Must avoid temptation. Not enough time in the world

Exactly. It is hard not to be hyped. I was talking before the game about not wasting chances. One of those games that United could afford to. And not like we missed many clear chances. Everything just looked good.

You know in football that I only live for United. Asensio would need to score 6 to impress me. :p Like Jose Mourinho said, it was a good win but it is really nothing in the big picture. Rashford was still good yesterday. Involved in the game a lot and trying to make things happen. I was happy that Martial came on and scored. Might be good enough to get him a start in the next game.

My best mate is looking to win the uncle of the year award. I took him to his first Man United game and many after it so he always looks out for me now. He offered the chance while we were in Nando's a couple of weeks ago. Just too much going on for me to consider it. At least I've had the tour of Camp Nou (Nou Camp, damn it. That is what it was called when I was growing up. )He took his nephew to another match. I'm stuck with 3 niece. :p jk , love them. Anyway. They got the action at the match last night.

No matter if Ronaldo pushed shoved or just did whatever. You cannot put your hand on an official. Not ever. Come on. No matter how you feel about his job of the game. You do not touch an official. This is nursery school stuff.

Well that was an embarrassment. I said Real were more likely to score a 3rd even when they went down to 10 men and they did exactly that. Meanwhile nothing significant is going on in the transfer window. Hopefully it changes soon or at least Paulinho proves me wrong.

I think the ref made a mistake by booking him, should have just played on. But yes that was a stupid thing to do. He would have only served a one match ban if that didn't happen but because of the push he is out for five games now. Can't say it's big damage, after all Zizou's rotation policy unleashed Ronaldo in the final months of the last season.

Zidane is the first Real Madrid manager to avoid defeat in all of his first three Camp Nou visits. Two wins (where Madrid went a man down but still scored later on both occasions) and a famous draw thanks to a late Ramos goal.

Something tells me you guys will win at the Bernabeu, but the margin won't be big enough. Can't see Madrid not scoring, the streak of scoring at least one in a game now stands at 67. Hope I am wrong about your win, wouldn't like to see the club lift a trophy after a loss, especially at home.

right, so by that logic Bayern cruising to another league title is equally/more impressive to say Dortmund or Leipzig winning it is it? what about the Spanish league(Barcelona/Madrid vs Atletico), or even England( both manc clubs/Chelsea have been spending billions bwtween them).
like it or not, finances are a major part of the game these days more so than ever - personally I would hate for us to become a soulless club similar to Man City /PSG etc. footballs already gone to **** as it is ,would be the final straw for me but am hopeful it won't come to that.

As for Coutinho. Them's the breaks, my friend. Needs to restore faith and score a hat trick in his next match. The question is, which team will it be for? :p

Not at all, obviously some title runs are more impressive than others. Just saying I'd rather win some competitions than have a transfer profit. After all some clubs will easily get the money back through other ways so I am not concerned by the finances.

You guys won't become like them. Big spending will happen at some point, you went over 100 million one season as well, but that won't happen constantly every summer like it happens with City and PSG.

Sigurdsson moves to Everton in 45 million deal. Champions league spot potential. :p

I'd of said they had the potential to make a good go of it before the move. The two Manchester clubs are nailed on for top 4. The other 5 best teams? Any 2 of them could make it I think.

Now a hilarious fact. After signing Jese Rodriguez from PSG, Stoke City now have more Champions League winners in their team than any other Premier League club at the moment.

That'll do nicely what a moment for Trent, now just need to finish the job next week.

Would be foolish to let Coutinho go at any price this summer in my opinion, he will just get on with it, world cup year and will want to make sure he's worthy of the move next year (now or never what absolute horseshit that is), another season at a level he played at last year isn't going to harm things, Luis Suarez did alright after being forced to stay that one more year. Hope they stand firm.

Sigurdsson moves to Everton in 45 million deal. Champions league spot potential. :p

Not for me, losing Lukaku's goals is hard to replace, made some good signings and I am a big fan of Sigurdsson but I think they'll be secure in their best of the rest without really challenging the top 6 too much.

Someone ought to do a Premier League prediction thread, although might be better at the end of the transfer window.

Sigurdsson is good but not 45 million pounds kind of good. Silly money season is gonna last for the next few years.

These days, he probably is to be honest. He definitely is worth at least that to Swansea, gives them a lot and a key part of what's kept them up these last couple of years. Hard to replace that, going to be difficult for them this season.

@Tiki-Taka who sucks more at predicting? You saying away goals might decide or me saying you might win at the Bernabeu? :p Commiserations, you'll maybe get us next time.

The longest scoring run in El Clasico history is over. Before today, Barcelona scored in 23 consecutive meetings against Real Madrid, last time they failed to do that was 2011 Copa del Rey final. It took some luck and assistance from the woodwork, but tonight Madrid finally managed to keep a clean sheet against their great rivals.

I saw possession stats in 87th minute. If Flashscore is reliable about the final stats, then this is also the first time after 31 El Clasicos that Real Madrid had more possession. Barcelona, I officially declare that your era is over... For now. I thought it would last longer but it was just me being pessimistic. :D

10th Super Cup win, now two behind leaders Barcelona. The only trophy that Real Madrid aren't holding at the moment, the only trophy boss Zidane hasn't won yet, is Copa del Rey. A treble didn't happen, 6/6 is impossible, but there is a chance for a 2017 quintuple in December when Los Blancos will participate in the Club World Cup, where they will look to become the first club to defend this competition and the first since Sao Paulo in 1993 to be world champions for two years in a row.

As long as Messi is with them, you just can't underestimate Barcelona. But yes, they are a lot more vulnerable now than they were several years ago. The defense is leaking and they don't have two midfield maestros in their prime anymore.

Do you think we'll see some Devils' magic in Wales on an early Saturday? ;)

Nah, it's a good beginning of the schedule. Better get some solid momentum in the first 5-6 games or so than drop points. Derbies aren't close yet for us.

I don't like when we play Swansea. Tough opponent recently and overall. Nice to see such a convincing win against them. Manchester leads 14-10 in wins now. Lots of potential this season if the club doesn't drop a lot of points at home due to their wastefulness like complete retards.

The last 3 goals were scored in space of 3 minutes and 41 seconds. Talk about a strong finish to the game. In the previous game as well there were two relatively late goals. Hopefully we'll see that approach way more often than defending a 1-0 lead.

Started in 2013 and was really passionate about it for a year or so, at one point I even managed two clubs at the same time. Then took a couple of breaks. After the second one I thought it would all be erased because it was a long time but the club was still there, with a nice pile of tokens and cash. Despite that I never went on a spending spree because I am not that interested anymore, I rarely watch my matches live. Probably preferred the old version to be fair. The auctions are excellent now though.

Today is the last round of the league and I could win it if I win my last match where my team is heavily favored on paper. I'll miss out on goal difference if I draw. Several results remarkably went my way in recent days and that put me in a position to win. Manager level 19 at the moment so it wouldn't be a small thing to win, especially considering three competitors have higher average quality than me. Can't remember bringing more than two players this season, it's been mostly the same guys from the last one. Low 5 star team that once turned into a low 4 star team tomorrow surely won't be relevant next season unless I go nuts in the market. Maybe a win tonight could get me very interested again.

How long were those breaks man? Level 19 is not insanely high if you started 4 years ago. Did you also intentionally tank some seasons too so you wouldn't get promoted?

I played from 2011 to 2014. Regularly finishing high in the league but not winning it often. Cup was ok-ish. The Champions League was my best competition, won it 10 times. Last one was around the time Madrid won La Decima as well. :D It was fun. What kind of updates happened since then? Good luck in your league match.

They were comparing the start to last season and then Henry went into ''making a point'' mode. He says there was no entertainment and kind of a LVG hangover going on. I'm not mad enough to think United will go unbeaten this season, but I think back to last season and City exposing United. Sending United right back to square one. Don't see that same sort of exposure happening this year.

So all in all. Thierry Henry is entertained.

Martial has to start the next game. Rashford has played well twice. Just no end product. Martial has been on 20 minutes more or less and scored twice. All hail the super sub.

I did that too, but there is something else, I transferred to another club. Maybe this option wasn't installed yet while you were active. You could ditch your current club and pick some other from the lower levels. I went from level 17 back to level 1 and started all over again. Since this completely new look was installed I can't find that option. Wish I could because the number of tokens and packs remains the same after the transfer, and I have a ton of them.

The auction update is that you will keep all the tokens you offered if you end up losing the auction, which makes perfect sense, it's a freaking auction. Took them long enough.

The new competition was added this year - Super League. Just a fancy Top Eleven word for Europa League. 5th to 8th in the league go there and 3rd in CL groups join later, you know the rules. The winner gets to play in the CL next season regardless of the league position, basically you can perform a Manchester United. :D Since that is the only competition I haven't won yet I was tempted to finish between 5th and 8th this season because I thought I had no shot at winning the league. Really underestimated my players.

Also, there are associations. You are part of a group that has 4-6 clubs and compete against other associations. Every participant draws someone from the other association randomly and you play once at each ground. The association that wins the most points goes to the final, where the same thing applies. Losers play for 3rd place. This kind of tournament happens once a week, so four times in a season. There are lots of division levels out there. After the end of the season if you survive in the same division or get promoted, there is a token prize for each one of the participants. I was lucky to be invited by the captain of "Barca" association when they were already placed quite high and we are now in Gold Division 3, second highest divison of all. Just surviving in it will give each one of us 50 tokens which is a fantastic boost. Note that players don't get tired from these matches so a manager doesn't have to worry that associations will hinder the club in league/cup/CL.

The main update is that there are now visual representations of what is happening on the pitch. Would you believe me if I told you that I preferred the old one when there was only commentary? The footballers are just a bunch of circles, the whole gameplay doesn't look fluid like it should in a proper football match and you almost know what will be the end result of the cutscene at the start of it. That's why I tend not to attend matches even when I am available, screw the 8% possession bonus.

 Sorry to tell you this, but the era that I played in, though more simple, was more fun. :p

Let me know how the league final day goes.

Griezmann pulled a Ronaldo today and got a yellow card for diving and immediately after got sent off with his team 2-0 down. Atletico managed to get a draw with 10 men though.

Ugly 1-0 win, yay.

That's my 18th league title in total. On my fake profile I guided United FC to six and now St Tropez 1964 to five. On my real profile which I just accessed after a long break, I got S.B.V. Excelsior to five. Despite my inactivity, the club has progressed by several levels on its own. Europa League spot guaranteed there next season, and an insane amount of cash.

I won one Cup in each of the three clubs and four Champions League titles, two in United FC and one each in the other two clubs. The standout achievement of my career is the treble in season 3 with St Tropez 1964. Outside of that, I am only great in the League. Had several runner-up finishes and semifinals in the Cup and CL sadly.

Ending it, sorry everybody for a small derail.

Aussie Aaron Mooy (love those double double vowels!) just scored the first Huddersfield Premier League goal at home in 45 years on a beautiful give-and-go return pass and an inward bender strike inside the post. The Newcastle goalkeeper was helpless. The defense might have pressed earlier on Mooy but it was a beauty! 1-nil Huddersfield as they pass 60 minutes.
