He really annoyed me when he said "this is my ****ing court". You gotta earn that. And then when he whines about Fedr making him look bad - nah kiddo you do that by yourself.
When did he say this? Lmao i think deluded is more apt than entitled

ATP site will probably stream exciting 1R action from Simon vs Bonzi at Cherbourg Challenger on Tuesday.
Interesting choice to play a challenger, even if it's in France. Did not look physically ready in Montpellier, looks like he wants to try and get a few matches under his belt and assess where he is with regards to that injury he sustained at the AO.

Simon was not WC'ed into the #1 seed so this was a planned stop for him...last DA into Rotterdam was Sousa at #57, a bit above where Simon stood at cutoff date. I guess his options were Cherbourg or the qualies. This was not a bad option, particularly if mending a bit as he preps for his Sud de France slam at Marseilles next week.

10 THINGS TO WATCH IN ROTTERDAM
(1) First 500 of Season:
This is the first of 13 ATP World Tour 500 tournaments of the season. The 45th anniversary of the popular Dutch indoor tournament features seven of the Top 20 in the ATP Rankings, led by World No. 2 Roger Federer who will return to No. 1 if he reaches the semi-finals.

(2) Roger Eyes No. 1: Wild card and two-time Rotterdam champion (2005, 2012), Federer is looking to return to No. 1 for the first time since Nov. 4, 2012. If the Swiss superstar gets to No. 1 on Feb. 19, the gap of 5 years, 106 days will be the longest between stints at No. 1. At 36, he would also become the oldest No. 1, replacing Andre Agassi (33) who held the top spot on Sept. 7, 2003.

(3) Roger Returns: This will be Federer’s first time back in Rotterdam since 2013 when he reached the quarter-finals. He is 23-6 lifetime and he’s never lost before the QFs. This is also Federer’s first tournament since capturing his 20th Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last month.

(4) Title Contenders: Federer will be challenged by No. 2 seed Grigor Dimitrov, No. 3 Alexander Zverev, No. 4 David Goffin, No. 5 Stan Wawrinka, No. 6 Tomas Berdych and No. 7 Lucas Pouille. No. 8 and defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew due to a hamstring injury. Wawrinka won the title in 2015 and Berdych lifted the trophy in 2014. Another former winner, Martin Klizan (2016), qualified into the main draw on Sunday.

(5) Grigor Back in Action: Dimitrov opened the first month of action with a SF in Brisbane and QF at the Australian Open. He is 8-6 in Rotterdam with his best result the SFs in 2013. He won his first career ATP match in the Dutch tourney in 2009 (d. No. 23 Berdych, l. to No. 1 Nadal in three sets).

(6) Berdych Turnaround: Berdych started off with a 2-5 record in Rotterdam but since 2011 he has improved with a 17-4 mark, winning the 2014 title, reaching the 2015 final and two SFs (2012, ’17).

(7) Ferrer Returns: David Ferrer returns to Rotterdam for the first time since 2011. He is 2-0 lifetime against 1R opponent No. 3 A. Zverev, who reached the QFs in Rotterdam two years ago.

(8) Dutch Title Hopes: Top Dutchman Robin Haase takes on countryman Thiemo de Bakker in the 1R. Both players are looking to improve their results on home soil. De Bakker is 3-8 and Haase 4-9. The last Dutchman to win the Rotterdam title was Jan Siemerink 20 years ago.

(9) Wild Cards: Besides Federer, the other wild cards are Dutchmen de Bakker and Tallon Griekspoor, who is looking for his first career ATP World Tour win (0-2). Canadian 17-year-old #NextGenATP star Felix Auger-Aliassime is making his ATP World Tour main draw debut.

(10) Doubles Draw: Top seeds are Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, No. 2 seeds are Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, who are 14-0 this season with three titles and unbeaten in their last 21 matches going back to last season. No. 3 seeds are Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut and No. 4 are 2015 champions Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.

Things to watch in Rotterdam...... number 2 on this list...... end of list.

Hopefully some of the top guys give him a tongue lashing after that. Makes Kyrgios look like an angel.
Particularly so since countryman Struff's hometown of Warstein is considerably closer to Munich than Zed's base in Hamburg. No camaraderie built for DC there, although fences must have been mended as they teamed for the 1R win over Oz this month.

we need like a countdown clock
*Official* Geriatrics returning to dirt update.
Bendych comes back from a break down late in the first for an impressive win over Mischa Zverev, but QF with Goffin looming
Feleciano and Seppi also victorious over their LostGen opponents, but Goffin and Zverev block their way forward
Ferrer fought valiantly, but ultimately went down pretty easily to Sascha Zverev
Kohly fighting back against Khachanov 3-6, 3-1 15-30

Jesus. Kolhshy just becomes a better player when behind in score.
4-3 Kachanov final set. Kholshy on serve.
Who wins gets Federer next turn.

ikr?

Win a few slams first and then start bragging. Heck let's see you make a single QF in a slam.
Why is that so annoying?
He is a pretty good player.
Bragging itself doesnt look any better no matter how much a player won. Federers humble bragging is pretty pathetic you ask me. Cringeworthy. Sasha is young.

No cringeworthy is thinking a 20x GS champion so-called bragging is pathetic but 0x GS Champion who has never even made it to a GS QF bragging is okay. It just shows you are envious of one and not the other.

To each their own. If Federer's attitude bothers you, that's your right. I think he's earned the right to talk about his success. To me, Sasha sounds a bit like Tomic. He's been more successful than Tomic, but he's still nowhere near there, especially on slams.

He is known for his humblebragging and been doing that for more than a decade.
Bragging isnt cool, doesnt matter how good you are. But when they are young you give them some slack.

I'm not going to argue with you. It's how we each feel about it, there's nothing to argue about. Federer's confidence doesn't bother me. Zverev's immature arrogance wouldn't bother me if he could back it up. You feel differently, fine.

Ha! Ha! Your rant is fake. Humblebragging is not what’s bothering about Federer. What bothers you because Federer can back it up.

I love it when athletes brag (even better when they back it up)
Muhammad Ali is obviously the prime example of this but I don’t think Fed brags at all he’s probably one of the humblest guys on the tour.

Hehe, Federer and humblebrag is sort of one of the things he is famous for. That aint humble at all. But since you love bragging you don't mind it.
Muhammad Ali has a very different background and story than all the prima donnas we see in tennis. Not sure if its even comparable or can be mentioned in the same sentence. Ali is an icon. Tennis don't have any icons, maybe Borg was one.

It’s hard to be humble when you’re the GOAT ;)

he doesn't brag, but he does say things like "I heard ticket sales are up for me, it's great to see that kind of support". I personally don't mind it. I think some people would rather he just brag.

If Sasha reach the form he had in Rome now he can beat them all :D
Its your court Sasha :p
Signs of life. He won over 50% of the return points against Ferrer. But Zedrot only won 59% of his own serve points which though it may be Ferrer just not good enough to win events. If the serve gets back to mid-2017 form and then throw in this return game then you really have something.:p

QFT

We're not talking about your average everyday world citizens here.

We're talking about the top 1% of an elite sport. The way I see it, these people in question can only be in 1 of 3 catagories:

1) False Humility
2) Humblebrag
3) Arrogant

Not much in between. Why? The way I see it, it's hard to be one of the best, or even the ACTUAL best without at least a healthy/excess dose of belief, arrogance, whatever you want to call it.

If a player achieves as much as Fedr is seen as fully humble, people will just say the humbleness is Fake/False Humility. How can you be TRULY be humble and achieve so much? Having full belief and yet humble? They KNOW they are better than most/all, but they might not say it out right. This humility is only false humility.

Many dislike arrogance, np. Also, if he is full-on arrogant, he'd likely achieve less too. Look at his early carreer, pre-22yrs old. His arrogance got in his way, him getting pissed off, or bummed out bc less talented players regularly beat him. It got to him since in his eyes, less talent = should lose to him.

Once he curb that arrogance and started respecting all of his colleagues and put in the hard yards like them, we got the Fedr Goat today. The balance is that now he is neither humble nor arrogant, but somewhere in between. ;)

A happy compromise.

He humblebragged here with his racquet as the young upstart and on his real home court:

He was humble enough to pick up ARod's racquet afterwards. It was probably at this moment that the rising American star realized that resistance to Arrowganterer would be futile.
