Intelligence on court was never a problem for Federer against Nadal. It's a match-up issue between them. Speed and bounce of the courts impacts the winner in a great manner. If they played most of their matches on fast HC, indoors, and grass, Federer would be well ahead. It's no wonder Fed is 5-0 since he doesn't meet Nadal on clay anymore.

Djokovic, along with Federer and everyone else are the guys that need to go into the hyperbolic time chamber to train to even try to beat him.
Federer is ideally Goku, he simply quit the surface, the same way Goku quit against Perfect Cell.

THIEM has made a NEW fan out of me...... This guy just said he would love to play RAFA again in the French open and have chance to beat him next time...... I love the fight in this guy.......... This guy will WIN more than 1 French open... I GARANTEE it.

Man, I was really hoping we'd see a "changing of the guard" moment today. An epic match where Nadal, being the champion he is, would make Thiem earn every point full of twists and turns. We need to see a new guy pull off the equivalent of what Fed did to Sampras, etc. and have that victory be more than a flash in the pan win but a true harbinger for a new champion's era. And it needs to happen on a grand stage, not some Master's 1000.
At some point Fed and Nadal are just going to retire without that moment happening. And then some young player--maybe Thiem--will rise up and gain momentum. Then the media with their short-term mindset will start making stories, "Would Thiem 2023 beat Nadal in his prime? yadda yadda yadda".....No, he wouldn't, he had his chance media, he's just taking advantage of the weaker field....

The guy just didn't get that is bad advertisement for the sport. These oldies don't know what to say when
Thiem gave decent effort from his side on a first final - perhaps 85% of his potential - you could see Thiem's face turning Red after that remark.

Do you think Nadal actually causes those unforced errors? Sure the stats will say there's a lot but in reality, most of them are actually forced errors. Rafa forces Thiem to go for more than he usually would, hence more errors. For Thiem to have tidied up his ue's, he'd have to take less risks, then Nadal would be taking the ascendancy in 90%+ of the rallies and he'd have no chance anyway.

Not really, his game is dependent on Huge swings and cuts at the ball. and his transition game to net still needs improvement. He's not a natural volleyer yet. Maybe play more Doubles would help for sure but then his Singles schedule is already insane and plays more than any other dude on tour.... so probably not in the cards

He probably lives with it better than if he'd choked away two fifth sets in Melbourne after being a break up.
Nadal seems to have a longer career longevity than Djokovic and Murray though, and nobody would have predicted that in 2014. He looks more likely to catch Federer now than back then in a funny way, even though he's 4 years older.

It's interesting, because Federer enjoys this as well, since Djokovic for example was the boss both at AO and at Wimbledon until his fall. Federer has been the main beneficiary of Djokovic's decline, because he made room for Federer to have a big success on the fast courts, where Nadal can't handle him.
Djokovic's best surfaces are the same as Federer's.

Perfect Cell wasn't the perfect fighting machine though, he lost to a kid, much like Fed did in WIM08.
Djokovic was more machine like anyway. On slow HC he was unstoppable until he lost form. Djokovic looks like Cell too.

but it depends on how exactly you put it when saying so.
you could in fact be doing a dissservice by saying everything is hunky dory when in fact, its not.
and FWIW, IMO, yes, there needs to be more variety in tennis, especially competency at the net.
look at that flubbed volley by Thiem at 4-5. That started the chain of 4 games that essentially cost Thiem the first 2 sets.
Thiem's net play - however limited - was below par.
as far as Rosewall is concerned, yeah, it wasn't the most appropriate moment and harsh for Thiem, but he didn't come down too badly on him either.
He said Nadal was a bit too good and Thiem was a bit disappointing , which is true. He didn't say Thiem played very badly per se.
Thiem came up with some good plays at times, but messed up on some big points and wasn't that tactically astute match from him.
