Wait, who created the name “Ultron”? I always thought it was this badass nickname for Novak..

The guy who is always offering several seats with complimentary wings....

Ultron is said in a derogatory way, not as a compliment. The thought being, he is a boring efficient machine who cannot bring out the passion and excitement in a tennis match...and oh, because he is the villain here, while Rafa is the hero, saving the day...

the fact that you got it so wrong in the 1st place says it all.

yes, Cilic should've gotten the return in the TB back in atleast.....

nothing compared to the help Federer gave Raonic in the SF ..2 UEs from 30-0 and a DF to get broken in the 1st set.

back to back DFs from 40-0 at 5-6, 40-0...........should've easily gone to a TB....

If fed was as gifting vs Cilic as he was vs Raonic, Cilic would've won....its obvious.
If he was as clutch as he was vs Cilic (&did not get injured), fed would've won vs Raonic

LOL. As if I can remember every detail from every match I have ever watched.

Cilic choked. He had 0-40 on Federer' serve in the 3rd set at 3-3 then netted a doable backhand after he hit an aggressive return, did nothing on a 2nd serve return to let Federer dictate, then missed another 2nd serve return. He completely choked that and should have broken in that game and took the lead. He blinked there and in the 4th set. A choke.

you should've said you didn't remember exactly instead of BSing that Cilic was up a break in the 4th set at first and was serving for the match.
No one expects you to remember every detail, but don't BS with completely wrong stuff.
If you are not sure, then say you're not sure or look it up.

you exaggerated Cilic's "faults" in the match a 100 fold ...and are still unwilling to address fed's gifts to Raonic in the SF....

Cilic choked. He had 0-40 on Federer' serve in the 3rd set at 3-3 the missed a doable forehand down the line pass, did nothing on a 2nd serve return to let Federer, then missed another 2nd serve return. He completely choked that and should have broken in that game and took the lead. He blinked there and in the 4th set. A choke.

at 16:08, that 2nd serve return at 4th set, 4-5,30-40 was nowhere near an easy one.
clear forced error.

at 1:46:37, the 2nd serve return at 3-3, 30-40 was nowhere near an easy one.
clear forced error

where on earth did Cilic miss a pass at 3 all in the 3rd set ?

2:48:00, 2nd serve return at 6-7 federer in the 4th set TB was the only 2nd serve return he should have made and missed.

----

and again, how does this begin to remotely compare to the gifts Federer gave Raonic in the SF instead of being clutch ?

Which is why it was corrected right after I posted it after I checked the "as it happened summary". Is it really that serious for you?

I just looked at that 3 all game.
0-40. Cilic hit an aggressive return that forced Federer to hit a half volley where Cilic netted a backhand.
15-40. Had a short second serve that he was not aggressive enough with. Federer pounced all over it with an aggressive forehand.
30-40. Had a second serve out wide at 88 mph and missed it badly. That was not a forced error.

All those were doable and he didn't take not one of those points which in my view is a choke. He could have ended that match in 3 sets with the level he was playing if he took his chances but he didn't.

you had a completely wrong impression of the match ....
it was far less of a letdown from Cilic than you thought it was .........Now below you are in some la land and BSing to cover up your mistake.

I just looked at that 3 all game.
0-40. Cilic hit an aggressive return that forced Federer to hit a half volley where Cilic netted a backhand.
15-40. Had a second serve about halfway in the box that he was not aggressive enough with. Federer pounced all over it with an aggressive forehand.
30-40. Had a second out wide at 88 mph and missed it badly. That was not a forced error.

All those were doable and he didn't take not one of those points which in my view is a choke. He could have ended that match in 3 sets with the level he as playing if he took his chances but he didn't.

are you serious ? do you even believe the utter tosh you are writing ?

not aggressive enough with in the 2nd point ? he did try to hit it with his BH - his return landed well ahead of the service box ...
(description in TA : 1st serve wide, fault (wide). 2nd serve to body; backhand return down the middle (deep))

3rd point : federer dragged him out wide with the 2nd serve ... a tall guy like Cilic had to jump up and stretch to get the racquet on the ball ..... you are clearly delusional to call it an unforced error.

missed it badly ? this is beyond laughable !

jeez, its having to tell 5+5 is not 15 !!!!

As far as the 1st point is concerned, a BH UE, but its not like he was in a winning position in that point at the time he hit the BH.

My impression of the match is still the same. A choke. Dude I don't have to BS since it's the way it happened. He had two second serves on break points, one which was short and he did not do enough with the return, and one out wide at 88 mph. It was a kick serve but still doable and he had hit many good returns off kick serves up to that point. I know it doesn't fit your narrative that Federer was clutch and that's the only reason he won, but if you have 0-40 on your opponent's serve with 2 second serves and another unforced error, not to mention 3 match points in the next set with at least two doable shots, it's a choke. Point blank. He also had 15-40 early in the 4th with two second serves and missed them both. Federer was clutch in key moments but Cilic choked as well which is pretty obvious.

I will never overrate Djokovic again

That's a lie! You can't help yourself!

pinocchio-gif-4.gif

But for real, Novak looked very good today much better than he has in TWO YEARS! Some posters tend to exaggerate. It's either he wins a few matches and that means he'll win the next 10 slams or he loses a close match and it's, he'll never win another thing. He's getting there. I don't know what that means but be patient. If one year from now, he still hasn't won any big tournaments and younger guys are beating him, I think you can start to write his obituaries as it will be three years. But from what I saw today, I think his fans should feel a little better than they did before.

He's certainly better than that hack he was earlier in the year. I also agree that it's ridiculous when people get excited after he beats people showing no resistance. The match today vs. Cilic depicts a lot more where he is than helpless Dimitrov and co.

not if the opponent dictates with his FH on 1 point and clearly forces the error on the other 2nd serve -- its not just BS , its beyond utter BS to call that an unforced error on the return. that was a tough 2nd serve to get back - a tall guy like Cilic was jumping and stretching to get his racquet onto that, FFS.

the 3 MPs in the 2nd set - one was an ace, another was again a forced error off the 2nd serve ....only the one in TB was one which he should have made, but missed. There, fed got lucky.
A little bit of choking from Cilic, but considerably more clutch play from fed...

That's what I said from the start :

you've got it completely wrong re: Wim 16 QF ...imagined that loss from Cilic to be a massive choke, when it wasn't a massive one at all. It had a lot to do with federer being ridiculously clutch in that QF.

I didn't say fed's clutch play was the only reason he won, but nice try at mis-representing my position to try to cover your mistakes and BS !

P.S. and if your analysis doesn't even change a bit after learning Cilic wasn't serving for the match at all, nor was he up a break in the 4th set, that means your analysis is clouded/sh*t ...now you are just trying to BS away by calling forced errors as unforced errors and then mis-representing my position.
you are even making up stuff like Cilic wasn't aggressive enough with the return at 3-3 all , 15-40 when he did actually try to hit it and return landed in a good enough position.

that is beyond desperate !

Yes but in 2012 when he lost Halle final and won WImby you had Novak Djokovic in very good form and Andy Murray. Now you have mainly Cilic. So if Fed steps up his game I think he will win it

I think we really need to wait and see: 1) the draw, 2) Federer's form at Wimby. At 37, it's only natural for players to have more bad days. The fact that Federer has had so many good days past age 31 is amazing already. What if for example, Federer has a really tough section of the draw and Nadal has a cakewalk? I think Federer is the favorite but I don't think he's a lock like I did last year. I hope I'm wrong.

Definitely. Cilic was his only real test and he did well against Cilic. I didn't see what happened in the last 15 minutes of the match but he obviously lost it mentally. He's rusty; needs match wins.

Oh so now it was a little choking from Cilic? LOL dude just stop. Of course it's so hard to actually say anything that takes the glory away from Federer. It is the hardest thing in the world for you to do. Let me make it clear. He choked. Also, I totally forgot about the 15-40 game early in the 4th at 1-2 where he had two more second serves and didn't get either in play. Cilic had many chances and didn't take them. Federer took his chances and the help Cilic have him to get back into the match.

I dont think he is also lock on.If he wins Wimby this year it wont be so easy like the last year. The last year his form was better than this year. But yeah lets see how he does in the first few matches there

That tally in the red box includes the grass inflation, so if Novak wins today, add 400 to his total instead of 200, which points him ahead of Goffin at #10.
EDIT: You are right, forget about this.

The question is what is a cakewalk draw for Nadal on grass these days? If he doesn't face a single big server and a big hitter, a grass court specialist or an elite grass court player, is that what we can call a cakewalk? The chances for this scenario are very slim at Wimbledon.

I said that from the beginning, not just "now"

I even quoted the post where I said that...

did that just fly over your head is that just selective blindness from you ?

Re : 15-40 game early in the 4th set ..1st one was an unforced error, 2nd one was a forced one. 1st one was definitely a missed chance, but not necessarily 'choking' at that point in the set/match.

if we call every missed 2nd serve return on BP (UE) as choking, we'd end up with sh*tload of chokes and chokes in tennis history.

Lets see in the past few mins, you've done :

a) got match position completely wrong.
b) misrepresented my position more than once.
c) desperately BSed yourself into believing and writing that FEs of the 2nd serves were in fact UEs.
d) desperately BSed yourself into believing and writing that a return that Cilic hit in well enough was where he wasn't aggressive enough.

Your judgment is always clouded because any credit seemingly taken away from Federer drives you mad, and you can't even see how ridiculous you look. Keep trying though and may get there one day.

you were BSing ...started with Cilic was up a break in the 4th set and then serving for the match --- your judgement of the match in that case was clearly mistaken.

my judgement is clouded when you try to make 2nd serve forced return errors as unforced ones to try to desperately justify your BS in initial statement ? LOL !
my judgement is clouded when you try to make it look a well enough returned BH return was not aggressive enough ? double LOL !

your BS was caught and exposed clearly.

Again, I said from the starting that Cilic did choke , I didn't say it only at the end, I said it at the beginning itself...I quoted it once, told you once more...but you are being delusionally crazy enough to say again that I said that at the end. Its more and more Donald T. style now.... Its just getting pathetic from your end . I'm starting to feel sorry for you.

Edit : Contrast to the help Raonic got from Fed in the SF : up 5-6,40-0, Fed DFs twice in a row. should've easily closed it out and taken it to a breaker. And obviously got injured in the 5th set
Federer would have the advantage in that tie-break, but it's not like "there is a 100% probability that Federer would have won that tie-break". If Milos somehow won that tie-break he would have won the fifth anyway.

Fed lost the final at Halle twice, but went on to win Wimbledon. Of course he wasn't almost 37 years old when those finals were played.

After Fed's 2 previous losses in the Halle final (2010 and 2012) he went on to lose in the quarter-final of 2010 Wimbledon and almost got knocked out in the 3rd round of 2012 Wimbledon so history suggests that this year's Wimbledon may not prove smooth sailing for him.

Seriously, how can a guy who has lost to journeymen all year be the second favorite for Wimbledon? He's won two tournaments in two years, hasn't won anything beyond a 250 in 24 months, but he's the second favorite? Where does this come from? He's still easily 30% off his 2015 form and was clearly gassed at the end of today's match. 2015 Novak blisters Cilic 3 and 3 today instead of losing from a winning position.
