ESPN’s picks...

Drysdale - Kvitova
Evert - Keys
Gilbert - Kvitova
McEnroe - Osaka
Shriver - Muguruza
I hope Chrissy is right, but I have to go with Brad and Cliffy. I was watching TC and they were saying Serena is the betting odds favorite, but I would like to see her play a couple matches first before I jump on that bandwagon.

Honestly a number of big upsets I can see happening in the 1R that i'll be keeping an eye on:

Collins v Mertens. Collins ranked #41 in the rankings but #22 in race rankings. Mertens #10 in the race rankings and #15 actual rankings. Could go either way.
Niculescu v Osaka. Haven't seen much of Osaka on grass, Monica always tricky.
Kvitova v Sasnovich. This one's a little crazy and I don't think it'll happen, especially as I have Petra winning the title but Sasnovich is a tough 1R match, Brisbane runner up. Hope Kvitova sails through.
Bencic v Garcia. Don't think I need to explain that one.
Venus v Larsson. Venus hasn't looked great of late.
Sloane v Vekic. Donna loves grass and unsure on Sloane who hasn't played since the RG final.

The transcript I read of an interview with Evert had her pick Williams and Kvitova. No mention of Keys. She must have changed her mind..... Or lost it!

I nearly always vote 'other' as it seems a safer option than having to pick a player that 'might win/could lose first week'.
If I have to pick from seeds I'd go with Serena Williams.
Haha I know you do but was wondering if perhaps someone caught your eye that wasn’t in the poll. Like if someone had said Ostapenko before last years French Open or even Sloane at the US Open I would have been mightily impressed!

Gotta love the BBC showing Pliskova-Dart (who?) on an outside court instead of anything - literally anything - else that would be more interesting.

Newcombe tips Halep for Wimbledon. Interesting.

I am going Halep as well, won't be great pace or skid in the courts after a long unprecedented dry spell in England right through May and June and they will probably get uneven as well very quickly. Her all round skill game are perfect for the current conditions, Kvitova dangerous, Stephens as well an outside bet, Mugu not having a great year but can't be discounted. Williams either variety not a prayer here.

One of the first matches of the day, has the 7th seed and a young Brit. I think it's literally the best of the first matches to pick from (at least if you're a Brit).

Just logged in so missed the fall, interesting 2nd set score. Is she affected by the fall?

I am here to console Arantxa when she loses to el ogro de las americas.

@ArantxaRus why don't you return my calls?

She's down a break again. I have not been watching much, but it looks like she needs to go for more.

Looks really lazy/lethargic out there at times.

Come on Vekic!
Brutal match against Konta last year.
Deserves a shot.
Third match point lucky?
