Goran Ivanisevic tells Rick Broadbent that the Serb is misunderstood and no one has done more for fellow players

Despite World No.1 Novak Djokovic’s dominance on the ATP tour for over a decade and being the frontrunner to as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT), the Serb doesn’t get the same fanfare and adulation that his rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are bestowed with.

That said, Djokovic has still successfully managed to brush aside all the negative aspects and has only remained focused on shattering records. While, Djokovic often receives poor treatment from the fans across tennis events, he has never complained about the glaring situation.

His coach Goran Ivanisevic too believes that the top-ranked player is not bothered about the disparity in support and treatment. “I think they are going to miss him [when he eventually retires],” Ivanisevic said. “He is never going to have the love of Roger, but I don’t think he cares. Sometimes he needs people against him to feel a little push,” the 2001 Wimbledon champion told the Times.

The Croatian coach further added that once Djokovic is done with his career, fans will surely miss him and crave for his comeback. “He has fans, people love him, but they support Federer more because he came first,” the former Wimbledon winner added. “But you have to appreciate what he does. The guy has won everything. The guy is fighting. They will miss him. They will say, ‘F***, we would like Djokovic to come back.”

Goran believes Novak is being targeted

Ivanisevic also mentioned about how Djokovic is creating a difference for better in the tennis circuit by forming a union to help the younger players.

“Sometimes people only pick out the bad things he does,” Ivanisevic adds. “They don’t see the good he does in helping others. He is the person who is not afraid to speak out, the only tennis player who stands up for the other players. He is the Robin Hood of tennis.”

Meanwhile, Djokovic is now into his 10th semifinal of Wimbledon, where he will take on Denis Shapovalov on Friday. The 34-year-old is also aiming to win his sixth Wimbledon title, which will also bring him his 20th Grand Slam title overall.

Half of the neutral fan's dislike towards Djokovic is because Srdjan and Ivanisevic can't stop talking .
It has got less to do with Novak .

How I wish Marian Vajda was the one who would do all the talking for Djokovic . He is so much better !

Ivanisevic ( coach ) never talks about Djokovic's game or progress but always talks about trivial things happening outside matches :-D

Right but the disagreement is over the 'why'

Djokovic fans don't acknowledge that his behavior matters and so they deem all criticism of him unfair, biased, and prejudiced.
This is Ivanisevic's main point: Sometimes people only pick out the bad things he does. They don’t see the good he does in helping others. He is the person who is not afraid to speak out, the only tennis player who stands up for the other players"

I see that a lot with Djokovic haters. They only see the "bad" things he does, and either dismiss the good things he does as him "fake" and "trying to be liked," or otherwise distort them into negatives

what behavior? He seems like the nicest guy of the big 3. I bet if you met him in person he would be a lot nicer to you then Rafa or Rog
Osaka mentions Djokovic as one of the only tennis players who reached out to her in support. This, of course, doesn't get threads made about.

But if he looks at a ballkid wrong, it's an indictment on his character

Let me know when Novak starts stealing from the rich to give to the poor.

I know it's just a sign of the culture we live in today, but why is it so important to be liked; to be popular? I was talking to a financial planner friend of mine the other day about starting a small business and she told me, "Everyone is a "brand" these days. And so much branding feels fake and disingenuous (because it is). Focus on being yourself and not on being a brand."

The people I like and respect most in life are the people who don't care if they're the most popular people in the room. I view tennis players in the same way.

Did you steal this thought from my mind?! :p
I totally agree with you. But this brand thing has become so universal and appreciated that I don't dare expressing my opinion about it so blunt like you:laughing:

Another example, the guy is evil :

It is only parasites in sport he loves who 'recognize' him as evil towards parasites in the sport he loves.

However parasites have no brains. That is why they HAVE TO BE parasites.
And he knows parasites go for ALWAYS MORE, at some point they go too far and - kill the host.
Which kills parasites. Cause they have no brains. The result of their maximum effort - is successful suicide.

So he is worried about survival of no brains parasites - not to go too far and commit suicide by killing the host.
That is why he tries to put some limit for parasites - to be prevented from their suicidal ALWAYS MORE.

A sort of parasites savior. But parasites have no brains. They cannot get it. They dislike him cause all they can put in their (no) brains is the fact that he limits them in having ALWAYS MORE.

It is simple good deed for long term benefit of parasites and completely incomprehensible and invisible to that same no brains parasites.

Simple gets misunderstood. It is called stupidity or in PC jargon - a low cognitive ability.

"Novak is the only tennis player who stands up for the other players. He is the Robin Hood of tennis.”

Since he's so popular with his fellow players and he's the only one who "stands up for them" it's utterly astonishing he's never won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship award. After all, the only people allowed to vote are ATP professional tennis players. What a scandal that the Robin Hood of tennis keeps getting dissed by his peers.

Andy Murray said the only player who phoned him after his hip surgery was Roger. James Blake said after he broke his neck, only one player wrote him a note wishing him well was Roger. Please rush out now and make threads about this magnanimous behavior. Spread the news quickly please.

Another injustice, but seriously it's impossible to compete with Federer/Nadal popularity.

:) I know that the older I get, the less I care about being liked. But it was good advice she gave me, a good reminder. Be myself, show passion for what I'm doing, and that sincerity will come across. ;)

And I believe that. So I just don't understand someone like Ivanisevic hard-selling Djokovic. You can't talk people into liking you. That's not how it works.

People hate djoker because it was completely shocking and out of the blue Djokovic came from virtually out of nowhere post 2010 and dominating the game more than probably anyone ever for 10 years. And still dominating at 34. Djoker is hated because most people thought Nadal or Fed being goat was a for sure thing. And djoker stole it both from them. There is ALOT of resentment and jealousy there. Especially once djoker got the double career slam. Something fed and Nadal couldn’t do

LOL. Djokovic has resided in Monte Carlo for well over a decade, until his recent move to Marbella, Spain.
