I stopped watching after the first set bagel, figuring that this would be the end result, a retirement by Daniel.

Good for Rafa that he gets a couple more days to get 100% healthy. Hopefully his next match is actually a match.

To think, Daniel's slot in the tournament could have been put to use by somebody capable of playing tennis.

If I had purchased a ticket to Laver arena to see Nadal play, I would have been pissed.

I agree, I also think it's better for Rafa.

Perhaps they can get a ticket to another match.

I had a ticket to the Madrid FEDAL exho, and (it's a long story) I couldn't use it.

Sorry to hear, that sucks!

Well my friend is more of a Federer fan so she probably wont be that mad. Still it's a shame and I dont think they were there for that long so who knows if they can get tickets to a second match.

T&M is again insane. How could you possibly compare Lacko who played a pretty decent match and there were plenty of long rallies in it, to Daniel who couldn't even move. Remember that "Lacking" Bagelled your boy Rafa just a week or so ago?

No, Jim, No! Rafa stopped his match last year because he was losing, not because he was injured! Get a clue!

Even Nadal himself didn't know what Jim was talking about at first. He was like:

"Me? I was injured? Oh! yes, of course, I was very very injured no? Fore sure!"

Nadal faced 4 BPs against a cripple.

Wow, why all the hate?

You need a life young lass. I was just making a silly joke about how things go around here. I don't ACTUALLY call the guy "lacking". Don't you realize that by flipping out you're just proving my point?

And everyone knows Nadal was sick against Lacko, that wouldn't happen otherwise. And Lacko DID play a pretty poor match against Federer regardless. It doesn't matter though because Federer would clean his clock any day. Anyway, you guys seriously need to get a grip on reality. I can't believe all you guys flip out over the most innocuous of comments. You guys STILL think I am being serious.

Anyway, I am off for today!

Of course, Nadal is always sick/injured/etc. Same ol' excuses from *******s.

If you say Lacko played badly against Fed you simply did not watch the match (not that it surprises me). Lacko didn't play a great match but considering what he was up against he did pretty well. He served close to 70% 1st serves in, he hit quite a few great shots but Federer was just on and there was nothing Lacko could do. Just when Fed's level dropped a little bit Lacko started winning more games but Fed quickly recovered his form and ended it. Fed returned brilliantly that match and Lacko's serve is not half bad!

That was really nice of him. I guess he knows exactly how much it suxs.

He totally knows. I remember the look on his face last year when his knee went wonky.

Andy looked like he felt bad for him.
I was mad - I was like "you ran him around that court and now you feel bad because he has to retire as a result?"

Because I'm sick of *******s treating their hero like a god.

Yes, Nadal can lose even if he's perfectly healthy.

Yes, Nadal played an incapable opponent.

Yes, Nadal retired last year because he couldn't break Murray. Rewatch it!

haha, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. I was really hoping to get a feel for Rafa's form, but that lasted for the first 4 games, after which he lost focuuuse and checked out.

what happened to daniel. was he injured or what?

He injured himself warming up

He played like crap from the first point. I think he just needed to save face since he couldn't win a game.

i don't see you complaining about your fellow ****s doing exactly the same things if not worse! Your hipocrisy is bigger than anyone else's in this board.

Uhh...ok. Methinks you don't even know me or how "mature" I am. But you can continue to think so? I would suggest you "get a grip".

I am making fun of how things go around here, not trying to stir things up. This board is an exercise in dysfunctional operations.

I can judge how mature you are based on how you behave on an Internet forum. How about stop trying to stop turn every thread even remotely associated with either Nadal or Federer into a Nadal vs. Federer *****fest. If you want to start a thread to prattle on about how much better your super duper wiwwle hero is, go start it. In the meantime, stop hijacking threads that aren't about the subject. In other words, YOU get a griip.

The matches sure are going by fast on Rod Laver Arena today, the fans who had tickets to the day session haven't got their money's worth.

That's the problem for the 1st round match against a top seeded players. Might as well watch the match with lower seed players, it's more competitive. I.e. Fish/Hanescu match was better.

UM, right and the ****s only looked at Lacko as the guy who bageled Rafa. Not how absolutely crappy he played in the first two sets yesterday. Fed is AMAZINGLY Sublime in beating Lacko, and Nadal facing BP's againsta cripple. Come on! You are being childish. I wouldn't be surprised, if ppl start a thread about how Rafa faced BPs to a cripple. How many ******* troll comments do you see in the Fed/Lacko thread? How many ******* troll comments do you see here? Nuff said.

Darren Cahill made a good point about how tournaments should withhold some prize money from players who go out onto the court with an existing injury and aren't able to compete. As he said, the slot could have gone to a lucky loser. I feel sorry for center court ticket holders today.

I don't blame Nadal for having Daniel as his opponent, I blame T&M for actually stating this opponent was tougher than Lacko. That's an embarrassing statement, even for him.

I did not troll against Rafa in this thread until Jim's question about last year's "injury", which Nadal himself didn't even remember (because it didn't exist).

Another bagel coming up on Hisense arena.

Day 2 is a borefest so far.

Day 1 had The DeBacle, Lukasz "The Unfit One" Kubot, and Fish sticks to compensate.

Yeah, but then they would just stay on court and take the beating, and the crowd will suffer further.

WOW! Really? So he lost a BIG match, that was probably one of the lowest points for him, perhaps after RG '09 and he didn't REMEMBER??? P

This match was funny. It was good to see Rafa playing well but Daniel doesnt even look like a professional tennis player. He literally looks like a club player or at best a weaker college player.

I am surprise Courier didnt ask Rafa about his flu. Who cares about what happen last year? Very poor post match questions chosen by Jim.

So why did Nadal retire against Murray if he was NOT injured? Last time I checked Nadal FINISHES matches as much as he can. Did you forget the bagel against Murray in Rotterdam '09 when Nadal was hobbling? How come Nadal did NOT retire in the match?

Truth is Murray OUTPLAYED Nadal in the AO 2010 QF and was on course towards winning the match in straights. Nadal got injured in the late 2nd/early 3rd set - so he decided not to risk any further harm given his shaky injury record and slam withdrawals thereof.

Was Nadal injured ? YES
Did the injury affect the outcome of the match? Not in the least. Murray was far away the better player.

Why is that so difficult to accept?

Oh damn, now that is unfair. It's sort of also stupid, because it encourages what Marcos just did. He looked like he was injured before he came here, and I highly doubt he thought he would win. Now he walks away with 20k.

For those tour hackers who are trying to make ends meet considering all the travel expenses, coaching fees, etc....20k is a big deal. I dont blame him for showing up to play injured and just taking the money.

Great post, too bad it's wasted on P_Agony.
