With Li Na's horrible form going into this her confidence will be ripped apart even more if she plays badly.

Interesting, Li Na vs Azarenka could be good for Li as she usually copes well with Azarenka and if she could get a win over her.. you never know, she may have some kind of revival in form!

Honestly, this is kind of up for grabs for anyone. Though if I had to pick a favorite, I think it would be Kvitova assuming she doesn't play badly.

That said I hope Aggy wins the whole thing :)

I honestly dont mind who wins this event.

I have a soft spot for Radwanska and would like her to do well. I think there are too many BBB for her to overcome though, hope she can do some damage though. If Venus was here id be rooting for her.

I'd like Vera to win something big too, as time is running out for her IMO.

Mainly Im rooting for high quality tennis, whoever brings that, I'll be happy.

The only situation that will annoy me is if Wozniacki wins averaging 5 winners per match. Hopefully she has left her moonball nonsense at home and is ready to play ball!

Also like to say I serously think Azarenka has a great chance too. I can really see her winning this.

She is playing agressive and consistent at present.

"At present" meaning in International Tournaments, $220,000 tournaments with little prestige and meaning in todays game. They're events with a maximum of 3-4 top 20 players.
YEC is a completely different story, it's got prestige and a lot of points and prize money to be won.

Not one person is coming into this event Hot. The only one who has relatively strong form lately is Aga, and she just limped into the 8th spot. Its totally up for grabs who wins this. Even Li, who has stunk big time since the French, could win since her group is the weaker of the 2. However, I think whoever comes out of the red group on top will win the whole thng...I'm personally hoping for Aga or Zvonareva...or even Kvitova..at least they don't look gawd awful lately....

If Petra, Vika, Na or Vera win that's gravy for me.

Last thing I want is Wozniacki winning with 5 winners/match.

I think this could be a really interesting contest. All eight are coming in with something to prove and probably feeling like underdogs. Really, the WTA has had some great matches this year, it just hasn't been by any of the same women. Someone is going to have a defining moment this week.

I would not be surprised if Li lost all three matches or won the tournament without losing a match. You never know with her.

I also have really enjoyed Radwanska's tennis lately, I'm not going to write her off for losing to Safarova in Moscow. She had such a good fall and really showed a new/better version of her tennis.

This is an interesting group. Li is Sam's slave, Sam is Pova's and Aza's slave, Aza is Li's slave! And Pova has lost three recent matches in a row to Li.

I REALLY want Li to pull herself together after allowing all this GS super stardom go to her head. IF Goat-NA shows up, she can conceivably beat Sam and in that case will probably be playing well enough to beat both both Shrieka and Howla. But Mug-NA wouldn't win a match or even a set.

Safarova was serving so good and Aga could not read her forehand
On that day Safarova could beat anyone, even bb Williams sisters

what is the surface in Istanbul? hard? carpet? fast? slow?

It's a kind of hard court.
I watched the WTA video where Ipek Senoglu talked the fans through it.
Basically, it's a wooden court underneath that took a while to put together, and then they paint over it 3 times with a special material. Each lick of paint takes 5-6 days to dry, so it too 2-3 weeks to make the court.

Strangely enough, this is the only WTA tourney that I'm interested in. For some reason I think all the better players (except Kvitova) are in the White Group. I would like to see Stosur and Azarenka get through that group.

Kitty elected to receive serve, already all over Vera's serve and breaks in opening game.

The colour of the surface is very similar to the colour of the ball.
I don't like this because you can barely see the ball.

oh dear, if only Kitty can find her great serve which seems to have vanished again.

Kvitova is seriously the only female player that I can stand to see to play

By the end of the Aussie, I hope she is ranked #1

Kvitova has won the last 6 games. Zvonareva has not held serve at all this match.

VZ FINALLY holds serve. PK up a break at 2-1.

No I didn't see that one. Choke much? Hahaha

Petra had a 5-1 lead thanks to Vera playing like garbage, then Vera just keeps the ball in while Kvitova sprayed the place with UEs off the backhand. Vera won 12 of the last 13 games going little of anything.
