Nike keeps pushing for Lunar on their tennis shoes and their players aren't even using it, why keep promoting it. OH well at least Rafa is using the upper of the ballistec with his usual nike air max sole and midsole.

$165 for a pair of tennis shoes is flat out insane.

why such a HUGE jump from $120 price point last year? We're talking 33% increase. Did Nike stop using chinese slave labor and switch to fair wage Americans or something?

Could be to defray the 6 month warranty costs. But I agree - that is a big bump.

Well Nike shoes is almost always the first thing that goes on sale after a tournament. So one only needs to be patient and wait for after the AO.

My local running store told me that while runners/joggers like having Lunarlon (because it's so soft), pretty much all explosion based athletes hate because it IS so soft, like pushing off against a pillow.

While I don't necessarily disagree, I believe Nike is pushing lunar into everything and changing the way it reacts in order to make it more responsive as it is used in the new Kobe 9

^ Yeah, I think it comes down a lot on personal preference. I like Zoom Air cuz it's responsive, but when I tried on the LunarB's, I didn't think softness was too bad. Having said that, I'm not athletic enough to get the most out of all their technologies.

that pic is HUGE

Sorry, but I wanted to keep the original resolution for a better look at the details.

Hard to tell from this pic, but that could be a Lunar base... but for sure, that's (unsurprisingly) a custom outsole.

Those are the same CB 2.3 midsole/outsole crafted to the new upper, custom made for him, just as Nike has always done. The only similarity to the retail shoe is the color.

Found another pic where you can see the Lunar "accordion" midsole. Still... who knows what's really inside... could be Lunar, could be encapsulated Air Max or even Zoom. :p

As its supportive shoe, I am surprised Nike went with lunar based cushioning. I cannot imagine it holds up as well as zoom or air max.

Not a fan of Lunarlon and prefer Zoom Air and Nike Air over it but each their own. Pricing is insane and even if these were to go on sale, you still end up paying close to retail of the CB 4.3s.

Price IS insane. I never buy anything at full retail price. But you're right, at this rate, even their "off-season" sale prices will be steep as well.

It looks like the lacing system has changed, reverted to the 3.3/4.3 style.

Downfall of the CB 2.3s were the weight and the cramped toe box for those with wider feet. It felts like your toes were being squished. As far as the Speed Solutions, haven't tried the 2s but are they wider than the original Speed Solutions?

I have the original Speed Solutions and found them a bit cramped in the toe box and slightly stiffer than the Vapor 9s but they were the lightest shoes you could wear pretty close to wearing a pair of running shoes.

Lunar ballistecs

Anyone know if that bull logo will be on the heel of the retail version? Also, will the black and white lunars nadal wore to practice at USO '13 be released? Thanks

You guys could always just go for the Cages or the cheaper shoes. I suppose you pay for performance (however you want to define that).

The price jump is pretty crazy, though. :-(

Just imagine a 25% sale on past seasons on the LBs and the shoe will still cost you $120. That was what the list price for a pair of CB 2.3s a few years back. I just don't see that many people buying the shoes at this insane price!

^ Yes. I generally prefer white mid/outsoles. That definitely looks better IMO. I would have pulled the trigger right then and there had they been white.

Looking at the upcoming colorways, none have a colored upper with a white mid/outsole. The orange ones come close with a dark grey midsole. :-?

Good-spot. I missed that.

That's the thing, what increases in performance are we getting with these new shoes?

For MOST consumers, it's the durability. I personally don't wear this line but if I were, and I have to pay $35 more? Extend the warranty to 8 months to justify the increase in price.

^^^it seems Rafa is rocking the 4.3 midsoles made to look like the lunars. c'mon Nike, you think we're that stupid.

Nike tennis 2014 aint going to catch me slipping. Patience is a virtue and will wait till the end of each season, when ALL the sites simulataneously puts stuff on sale. Ha! I'm still waiting for the WTF to go.

we'll be lucky if the discounted price even gets back to the 2013 full retail $125 price.

The days of getting shoes between $65-80 at the Nike Factory stores will be long gone.

New Nike Air Cage is on Web!
Look essential! With more white it's similar to the shoes of the mid 90s (Air Ace, Air Slice, Air Supreme Court).

Not everybody has heard of this place. So they don't know that

I don't understand the hate for the lunarballitic. I get that $160 is a lot for a shoe but compared to other sports it's still cheaper and you have a durability garuantee. Also just because rafa likes another style doesn't mean this one is inferior. He played with duralast which was a very outdated poly for a long time even though there were better ones available to him.

So how are they justifying the substantial increase in price compared to the old model? Are we getting more performance? More durability? More warranty?

None of that, it's just a new model and they decided to hike up the price.

Remember how people complained about how 'clunky' and 'heavy' the old Ballistecs were? Lunarlon will substantially lighten it up. That's probably the 'performance increase.'

But, really, it's up to us, the consumers, to figure out whether the extra $35 justified or not.... and I bet most of us will think it's not. We'll have to move on to another shoe, wait for a sale, or get a different shoe.
