Denis Shapovalov to Yonex

From the photos no although why did he mention 95d to me it's an old frame very odd for him to say that and he said instantly without hesitation

I watched him practice uses no dampener and I could not see any lead but I was 2ft away

He's a great player not sure if he's in Wimbledon draw as is ranking is 164 ...

Lol you can't mistake a guy with long blonde hair and wawarinka . He played today an exhibition against barankis ... not sure I spelt that right who was also using a yonex
He does use the 95 just not the 95D. He is using the Vcore SV 95

I'm surprised there is no lead at least at 3 & 9. The SV 95 is pretty light stock form.

IMO, adding lead to the SV95 at 3 and 9 makes it sluggish and takes away one of its main advantages - it's whippiness.

With 16g poly string, an overgrip and a dampener, the stock SV95 is around 330g to 345g depending on the weight of the hairpin.

It really is a scalpel in the proper hands. Just have to be good enough to get the best out of it. Adding a little extra weight at 12 and inside the handle can give it a bit of a boost, again in the right hands, especially if facing big hitting opponents, but not really necessary for those with decent footwork and timing.

A lot of people have no idea what they are using.

Sadly, another 6.1 soldier has fallen :(:(:(

I was pretty shocked to see that he's left the 6.1. I'm now tempted to try the SV95 though. Have you hit with it yet?

My tennis coach used to tour with him a few years back. When I asked my coach, he said Denis used a 6.1 95S for a while, but when I showed him the 18x20 pattern he said he probably switched.

I tried the sv 95 and thought it was rubbish

I don't know the conclusion or what he's using but maybe they gave him a 95d to try and he didn't end up with it

He's not going to be there today I don't think

We have kyrgios and zverev and Batista agut etx

Which strings he uses, it's a prototype?

I strung up my Phantom with this string a few months ago and the story behind it is Yonex made a bunch of RPM-like strings for Wawrinka and this was the most promising of the bunch.

Very similar in that at first it leaves black markings on the ball, the light is reflected by the strings like RPM and similarly stiff. The issue was that it lost tension within two hours.

Denis is a very smart operator. Very clever to slip in the reference to Yonex. I don't believe the players are under any obligation to mention their equipment in Post Match Press Conferences but it probably doesn't hurt him here.

He seemingly appears to be one player that can really get the most out of a 95sqinch headed Yonex frame.

Is Shapo playing with a pro stock with different lay up than retail? Shapo says the racket has great feel but TW tester Michelle hated it and Andy thought it was brassy.

Yonex doesn't do pro stock custom layups. Customized to weight and balance with lead and silicone? Sure. But their pros play with either current models or old Yonex frames under paintjobs. If you look at a pic a few pages back you can see the aero fins on the frame, meaning it's most likely a SV95, if not definitely (not sure if the aero fins are new, don't tear me apart TT).

Feel is subjective. Denis may like a different feel than a couple of other players who use and prefer different racquets. Also, Denis is a brand ambassador--of course he's going to say he likes the feel of the racquet.

To be fair, I'm not sure he would have switched to the frame if he didn't like the feel. As a young talented pro, I'm sure he has/had his fair share of companies courting him. Yonex probably came to the table with the best compensation package coupled with Denis actually liking the racquets.

Here is a recent photo of Denis Shapovalov's racket and strings:

His tension was:

Mains - 51.0 LBS
Crosses - 51.0 LBS

His rackets were strung two-piece.

Hope this can be of help,

ProStringing
What string is that ?? looks like tourbite but it saids yonex ? does it have as much spin and power as tourbite ?

Wrong on both accounts. Hewitts example where his mold wasn't anything released (it had characteristics of two different models but as a whole was never released) as well as Yonex saying they made multiple layups for him because he was very sensitive to how the racquet flexes prove this.

Another example is the filling of Wawrinkas racquets - not silicone, some pretty dense foam not found in retail equivalents.

Like the kid and like YY.

Unrelated but play the vcore 95d and 100s a few years and will say that the vcores felt much better after the grommets seated in

The aero fins only show the mold is the SV 95, which I think we can all agree on. The lay up is a different story, Yonex do make pro stock lay ups. An example is Coric' Yonex rackets that were a lot more flexy than retail. Plus what Automatix said above.

Shapo says the racket has great feel but TW tester Michelle hated it and Andy thought it was brassy.

The TW team reviewed the SV95 with Luxilon ALU Power strung at 50lbs. IMO, the LAST string I would put in this racquet is Luxilon ALU Power. Not surprised that the racquet would feel Brassy with that string in a full bed. (And I wonder if that is the reason why Andy preferred the SV98 over the SV95? They tested the SV98 with a different string IIRC Solinco Hyper-G.)

The SV95 is quite string sensitive. It works very well with Yonex Poly strings. It works very well with Volkl Cyclone both in full beds and hybrided with some more elastic polys. I imagine it would be pretty good with a NG / Poly hybrid as well but have never tried that.

I agree. For me the ai98 and VCTG came to life when strung below 48lbs full poly. While the sv95 has a higher stifness ra rating... I think I will play test the sv 95 at one point, since I like the specs and the fact that it should be more manouvrable than vctg. Unfortunately @Power Player didnt like it, but since he went to the dark side our similar taste might be gone ; )

I stand corrected. Thanks for putting the correct info out there.

Do you mind me asking what retail frames were foam-filled? My current Yonexes are filled with quake shut gel which is nice, but the only other YYs I've played with have been the RDS003 and the RDX500 and I don't recall them having any filling (I could see the RDX having it, probably not the RDS though I'd imagine).

It depends what do you understand by filled with. If we believe the graphics Yonex provides quake shut gel should be placed in the space (normally there isn't any) between the tubes meeting in the handle. So while the 2 chambers in the racquet handle are empty we assume the gel is between the layers of graphite meeting in the middle - until someone saws through the handle in several places we don't have confirmation on this. So you either believe or not.

For a better visualisation the quake shut gel should be in the red area in the bellow picture...
200908racquet_Volkl_Sensor-Handle.jpg

The shock dampening grid was also supposed to be between the tubes...

The ones that should be filled with foam throughout the frame are the ones sporting the solid feel core technology (e.g. Ultimum RD Ti 80) but no currently available Yonex frame features this tech. Yonex frames have some foam in the hoop though - verified.
A common misconception is thinking that Yonex racquets have foam filled handles due to the excess of PU forming the handle.

The yellow foam you see inside the chambers is only a couple millimetres thick and is not the kind of material used for filling the inside of racquets.

I think one can feel safe that @vsbabolat gave his seal of approval for the SV95 since he has a rather high standard for racquet feel.

Oh comeon,,, Which poly doesn't lose tension in 2 hours....they all do. if this is like Improved version of RPM blast then this has to be like the BEST string ever

Is their a big difference between the SV95 and the Duel 310g apart from a couple square inches? Weight and balance look very similar. I might have to demo these two racquets.

I had the Tour G 330 and demoed the sv95 (sv is a update of the si line) and found the sv95 to cut the air very fast and lack the feel and flex. I didn't directly compare but the pattern seemed less dense, lofted the ball higher over the net with less effort. Kinda reminds me of the burn 95 or a Prostaff 97 in the type of ball it hits. It's mains are as long as my 6.1 95 but the width of the hoop is greater.
