If he plays this well, no. Can't exploit his movement (he moves like he's 6ft2), no weaker side to attack, not enough firepower off the FH side to hit through him (Fed needs a very fast court these days for his FH to shine), not good enough defense/movement anymore to take the brunt of his attacks in BO5 and frustrate him into making errors. Marin also returns well and would be aggressive on Fed's 2nd serve, putting him under additional pressure.

I honestly don't think Fed would have a better chance against Cilic than Novak, would maybe even give him more chance against the latter actually.

You're worrying way too much. Cilic has only won ONE match against Fed, otherwise Fed has been owning Cilic, including a win at the USO in 2011. Cilic will not be in the zone like last time nor will Fed be as flat as he was that day.

Tsonga is a just a tragedy. I mean, what happened to him? If someone told you after the 2008 AO Final that they have looked into the future and this was Tsonga's future, you'd roll your eyes at them.
SF multiple times at a major and 2 MS1000 isn't so bad.

It not like he disappeared after 2008 AO like some other players first breakthrough slam final.

Cilic overlooked by everyone here again. Can't say I'm surprised.
I wanted Tsonga to win this match, but expected it to be Cilic given the H2H.
Right now, it looks like a possibility Cilic can win another major ala Stan, if he can keep peaking at the right moments. At which point many people will have to eat crow (myself included) for calling him a one slam wonder.

Mmm, I'm not sure about that mate. I'd imagine Fed's hunger for slam number 18 would be enough to overcome Cilic no matter how well he's playing.

And you think Marin isn't hungry to defend his title? As important mental aspect of the tennis is, sometimes people give it too much value.

Mind you, he was in pretty much the same situation last year and we saw what happened there!

Well yes, kinda of my point.

Tsonga was unfortunate that he entered his prime at the very same time the strong era was commencing.

Possibly, would have better chance than Fed/Anderson/Gasquet IMO. Still, I think this court suits Cilic more.

Unless Federer comes up with a Wimbledon SF like serving perfomance yeah,I agree,Stan would have the best chance.

Regardin the court,Wawrinka beat Cilic last year in Cincy 3-6,6-0,6-1 on a court that should favour the latter even more.Their h2h is 8-2 with Wawrinka winning their last 4 meetings.

Would make an interesting final IMO.

I'm not worrying in the slightest, we're talking about a potential match-up that is still far away from occurring for me to worry about it. Just giving my (layman) analysis.

Just tuned in. How well is Cilic playing? As good as he did last year?

Probably his best match of the tournament. Tsonga started out really strong but Cilic held his ground and eventually got the break in the 1st set. In the 2nd set Tsonga's level dropped and Cilic was the better player throughout.

Again, definitely Cilic's best performance of the tournament so far.

Cilic is actually kinda worthless outside slams (to a much higher degree that even Stan is) so I wouldn't look that much into that result but yeah Stan has enough firepower to have a good shot against anyone if he's clicking on the day.

Cheers, missed most of the first 2 sets as well. From the match stats, the first set was extremely close with Cilic taking one of his BP's and Tsonga missing all of his - is that kind of the story of the match or was Cilic just massively better in the 2nd?

"Strong era"? A "strong era" implies the pre-existence of a "weak era".

Tread softly. ;) There are Fed fans lurking in the shadows. :D

More worthless than Stan in a HC Masters?that's definetely saying something:)

If Stan makes the final he's definetely clicking

Cilic was clearly the better player in the 2nd. I believe he only lost 4 points on serve in the entire set or something crazy like that.

yeah, just heard he's won 80 % behind his 2nd. Tsonga trying his best to turn it around right now - and succeeds with the break!
