I missed out on voting but I think Nadal has a good chance to win. Zverev and Delpo are two genuine threats to Rafa now that Cilic and Kyrgios are out, and also Querrey, Isner and Chung in good mood may be dangerous. If Querrey and Isner serve like hell, they can knock out Nadal. Chung may also play like crazy on a given day and could catch Nadal when he is not at his 100%. However, Nadal is a notorious slow starter and should be careful v Feli because Lopez has great serves that can beat Nadal on a given day. Overall, Nadal's draw seems good so he should get to F where he is likely to meet either Delpo or Zverev.

Acapulco is stacked. They must be loving it since turning to HC.

Yup, I think it makes sense to play Acapulco and move relatively short distance to IW than to play Dubai and travel half the world. Turning HC was a great decision from that perspective by the organizers but might have been a bad one for those who wanted clay to stay.

Nadal:

“I am happy to be here. I feel recovered from what happened in Melbourne,” said Nadal of the injury that forced him to retire from his quarter-final match against Marin Cilic. “[I took] a couple of weeks of rest and worked hard on rehabilitation. Last week I started practising hard again. I feel ready.”

Sounds like Nadal is not at his 100% yet. Only 1 week of preparation may not be enough for this perfectionist. Not sure if playing all the American HC events would be good for him at this stage of his career. Might have some unwanted effects on his clay season.

What a wonderful crowd for the Isner v Harrison match. Absolutely love this tournament and the atmosphere. @gogo must be in the stands.:p

I think Harrison seems really determined to prove himself this year and worked very hard. Just hope all that work translates into results.

Acapulco probably 'betted' as to be a sunshine double preparation tournament. Good commercial decision probably. Location with no (or little) jet lag in the view of the next 2 famous Master 1000 and same surface of course.

Really Dubai should be scheduled in that time of the year when more Asian tournys are on the run.

I really would love to see an evolution of the golden swing clay court though. All clay court Master 1000 are in Southern Europe. Tennis in Latin America is growing and countries like Chile for example should absolutely have an ATP event. Today we have Quito, São Paulo and Buenos Aires as 250 events, and Rio as a 500 event. That is it.
There could be a 500 in Santiago and a 1000 in Ciudad de Mexico! That would really make the golden swing interesting!
These people are into this ****! Harrison v Isner had the atmosphere of a Masters 1000 semi-final and its Monday afternoon.

Its been 18 months since he's applied himself and its already payed off with Harrison getting around the top 40 and direct entry everywhere. With so many geriatrics heading towards extinction he could slide up further, but for now he just dropped back to 57 so he needs results to get back up in the rankings.

Ferrer looked really good at the Real Slam just before the US Open and he's back at it in Acapulco. Rublev slow starting and Ferrer rolling back the years with perfect aggression carrying him to a 3-0 lead.

Isner needs to ds to go back to challengers to get some form . Really awful at this time .

He is not going to win more than a match or two at the Sunshine Double

Don't geriatrics like the sunshine?

Rublev breaks back twice in the first set to get to 4-5 and then saves three set points in a row (from 0-40), but Ferrer breaks him in the end to take the first 6-4.

Rublev should make in top 15 no time from now . Waiting to burst on the scene

I have high hopes for Rublev and Schwartzman this year

Rublev just not quite the stomach to grind with Ferrer tonight; very warm exchange between the two at the net.

LOL. Nice pairing as both have notably poor serve games overall especially the 2nd serve.

So TA, on clay these days does having a great serve matter? Conventional wisdom says no, but I'm not confident in that old canard. Schwartzman won Rio destroying geriatric Fiasco in the final so that supports the case. My predictions for Angrey hinge on this canard and him having some runs on clay this Spring. Will Angrey and Diego both crash and burn on clay?

Both should do well but Schwartzman has made good improvements to his serve . No reason to not make top 15

Zed bot points will drop after Rome . Busta, Sock, Querrey, ISner all will make way .

Wawrinka's injury problems were there from grass season onwards (Queens , then Wimbledon), not at RG or in the RG final.
But he injured his knee around Basel 2016 and had to take MTO for his knee injury in AO SF so clearly it had been bothering for a long time.

yeah, he took MTO , but then came back swinging after that in the Ao 2017 semi match. This is not to say he didn't have minor niggles/issues with it once in a while, but he didn't look affected in RG 2017. (didn't take a MTO)

He said the grass made it problematic for him. So we had what we saw at Queens+Wimbledon.

"
His knee problem is nothing new - he had similar troubles in Australia earlier this season - but it has been exacerbated by the grass.

“I had some problem with the knee with Queen’s, so that was not the way I wanted to get ready for this tournament,” Wawrinka said. “Today was tough.”"

If Nadal is injured then Fedr is sweeping this year.

Why do all matches start so late? 5 PM Eastern time, 4 Acapulco time. Not really complaining but it's a bit unusual, no?
