I don't even "need" Nadal to lose, I just want good matches. Same with Wimbledon.

I am hoping Del Potro makes it past Cilic because Nadal does look like he can be upset here.

I think nadal would be happy to see del potro and get past a guy like Schwartzman. Assuming he’s fit i think delpo wouldn’t give him as many problems as Schwartzman was doing.

It will be ready in 2020

Ok, Better late than never i guess.

Momentum is overrated. Schwartzman's a mental midget.

Schwartzmans game is up and down, this is the guy who lost 6-2 6-1 to Gasquet in monte carlo, and got Bagelled by Pella the match before.

Some players are affected by 'momentum' more than others. Schwartzman has no serve so he relies on staying 'in the zone' on his returns, which he doesn't always do.

Del Potro with that forehand will not give Rafa problems? You gotta be kidding.. Del Potro may not win but he can certainly cause problems to Rafa

Don't be one of those guys :p

It was 1-1 in sets and Fed had 1-1 40-0 on his serve when the rain came.

Fed wasn't losing anything.

Yeah, it's an uncomfortable truth but especially for a guy that reached 11 slam finals, Murray's really not that tough of an opponent in them.

The much maligned Bagdathis had Fed on the ropes more in one.

What injury did RAFA have anyway ?? some kind of forearm issue?? Clearly there was something wrong in that 1st set ??????? and how can you play with all that Tape on the arm ?

The rain break isn't totally to blame for this. To be quite honest, I'm shocked that such a thing as a rain delay can throw off a player's rhythm this much. Schwartzman is missing by miles now, or into the net when he wasn't earlier. That can't only be blamed on rain or Nadal being "saved" by it. It's time for us to look at Diego and stop moaning about Nadal.

False. Rhythm and Momentum are real factors. Not everybody can just stop and start back right where they left off after being interrupted and that has nothing to do with being "mentally weak" or "unprepared." Just some guys get all the breaks and in this case, Nadal happens to be "some guys."

Wimbledon 2004 and Wimbledon 2012 come to mind.
And 2008. He didn't win, but he might have lost that match in straights had the rain not come to his rescue.

Roland Garros 2011 too when Nadal was serving for the second set and the rain came to Roger's rescue. Nobody recalls these instances though, it's just Rafa that Mother Nature is in cahoots with.

So you're telling me he's a midget in more ways than one?

That's a joke btw, as I've already said in this thread I'm the same height as Diego so I'm not some giant tree making fun of short people.

As a Nadal fan, i will admit that this rain delay has helped Rafa, and he did lucked out with Zverev, but you can only play in the conditions that you are presented with. Maybe god wants rafa to surpass Feds slam count

Why not Wimbledon 2012? He lost the first set but as soon as the roof was closed it was all Federer.

Murray would’ve won had the roof remained open.
Fed wasn't losing to Muzza in a slam final.
My point isn't that Murray could've won, I'm saying it favoured Fed--it did make Fed's job a lot easier.

Think 5 set win vs 4 set win sort of thing.

But then again, that Olympics 2012 performance makes me think twice about committing to that--even if Fed was probably exhausted by that point.

But he's right though. Federer fanatics/Nadal haters are too riled up and complaining about the rain. Yes it's annoying and it stops the momentum but why can't any of these players maintain their form after the rain delays? You have to be strong enough mentally to be able to do it against Nadal and none of these players seem able to do it. You can't fault Nadal for that!

Fair enough, but Rafa’s clearly been told what to do by Moyà. An advantage he wouldn’t have had were it not for rain delay.

It’s mildly annoying. I like to see players figure things out for themselves and Nadal clearly wasn’t doing that on court.

IMO the momentum was already beginning to shift before the roof closed, Fed had break point in Andy’s first service game of the third

Yeah, for me the match changed at the end of the second set. Murray was serving 5-6 30-40 (if I'm not wrong) and Federer won the point and the set with an amazing volley after a great rally.

I'm going with either mentally weak or unprepared. Same difference anyway.

It appears the rain has stopped, no? I'm looking at the stadium, and people are starting to come back in. Also, no one has their umbrellas up anymore.

As a Murray fan, I'll admit that while the roof may have facilitated Federer's passage slightly I don't think it would have made a difference to the outcome of the match. Still Fed in 4 (albeit slightly tighter) sets for me.
The Olympics was a whole different ball game tbh, that form was derived as a result of losing the Wimbledon Final in that fashion. Completely different day and very different atmosphere. Andy had 95% support and had comfortably beaten everyone up to that point.

Nah, there's no evidence Murray would have pushed that match to 5 sets.

Murray has never pushed a losing slam final to 5 sets.

Murray would have gone down in 4 anyway. Would have won a couple more games at best in each of the last 2 sets.

Rafa went to his backhand at USO and had to switch it up bc Delpo was ripping it. Eventually he wore Juan down but it's not as simple as attack the BH.

I would favor him in the hardcourts. Curious to see what the weather will look like on that day. Will it be sunny.

It's not really mental midgetry. Look at Stan Wawrinka, won majors when he built up momentum and was in the zone, then would lose in the first round of little tournaments :pmomentum is relevant, anyone whose played tennis knows that.

I'm sorry for your height issues :D
