Unlike the ATP, where 2 generations never stepped up to dethrone three players, on the WTA side, players see this as their life's work--meaning why else are they on the court? They are there to win majors, not just show up. All three majors winners this year were there for that reason, and took what they felt was theirs. If Andreescu wins this, she earned it, she did job of every player, and the women's tour continues to be the strongest in tennis.

Surprising to me. I thought Serena would outhit her. I guess I underestimated the firepower of Bianca.

The strength issue is surprising; I've watched many of Andreescu's matches and never got the impression that she was as strong as she appears to be in this match. I suppose perception came down to who she was playing.

She is pouncing on all of these shots. Unfortunately, every single one of them are going into the net because she is not using her legs, getting down, and driving through the ball. Same problem on her serve.

It's like her feet are encased in concrete. You can't get the ball up and down unless you bend at the knee and really drive down with the legs through the shots.

Its clearly nerves. As I hinted yesterday, the magnitude of this being the chance to bookend her first USO victory (the first majors victory of her career) and matching Court could get to her. I do believe if there were no record tied to winning another major (IOW, no Grand Slam, or anniversary of her first major), this would be a different case. Right now, it is sort of an emotional trap--as long as the Court record sits in front of her, the nerves will be there no matter who she faces, and I'm not at all convinced she will ever overcome that.

She needs to hit through every ball and not guide it. The match is winnable. I just want her to get 24 or maybe 25 and be done with it.
