Dimitrov is out now, too. The lost gen and next gen clowning it up on day one.
Fedalovic gen FTW.

So after all that talk of easy draws, hard draws, per seeding ...
The projected 3rd round opponent for Djokovic was Lajovic. Gone
The projected 4th round opponent for Djokovic was Monfils. Gone.
The projected 5th round opponent for Djokovic was Tsitsipas. Gone.
Hurcacz is a better player than Lajovic. That wasn't even an upset.
And his 4th round opponent is FAA. Who had Monfils making the 4th round?
Wow, what a day. Couldn't watch, but Djokovic couldn't have asked for much better, could he? Not that he needs the help, mind you!
The only seed he can still face before the QF is No 19 FAA, who never won a match at a GS before today, and now is the favourite to make it through to R4. We'll see how he deals with that expectation, and whether he makes the second week in what I believe is only his second main draw appearance at a GS after USO 2018 (where he withdrew during his match with Shapo). If he does, that will be a tremendous achievement. Also taking out the defending champion in R4? No chance. (Unless Novak has a really bad day.)
The most dangerous seed left for the QF is No 11 Bullsheet Russian. He did reach the Queens SF, and beat Djokovic on clay this year, so I suppose he could make a match of this, if he gets through. But again, he has never made a GS QF, and only once R4 (AO this year). He's also still rather inconsistent, so I don't think Novak will be quaking in his boots. The other seeds left in the quarter are No 21 Goffin (still to play his first round) and No. 30 Edmunds. Goffin of course has had a bit of a resurgence and made the Halle final against Fed.
In the bottom half of the draw we have only lost Zverev, who, let's face it, was probably nobody's favourite to reach the semis after the year he's had. Still, Khachanov at No 10 is now the highest seed that Novak can face at all on his way to the final, and I doubt that Karen will make the semis tbh.
Not the easiest slam path I've ever seen, but certainly one that a player of Djokovic's calibre should have no difficulty navigating.
The seeding.

Novak's only competition in his half is FAA (first slam win as you said), Mevedev (meh), bad back Raonic, and bad form Anderson.
Definitely hard to see him not making the final. It would take another tornado. And with the roof I guess that can't happen.
true thatHurcacz is a better player than Lajovic. That wasn't even an upset.

wait what? was he not up 2 sets i swear when i first tuned in he was up 2 sets
Not really how it works. Nadal was seeded 4th behind 2nd seed Andy Roddick at 2005 RG, but he was the obvious favourite for the title.
He can at least be funny.I mean at least he is better than Andrew in that regard
Andrew was and is a total zero on the scale
Jeeez what a day one. Djokovic must feel so blessed right now. And I can't decide what's worse, Zverev or Dimitrov's loss. Maybe the former since he's at least younger and seeded.
Its time for Shapo to make amends at this Wimbledon. Hopefully he gets hot on serve. They met also at the AO when Tsonga prevailed in a thrilling match going 5 sets, which Shapo should have won leading the last set at one point 5-2..
This might be the technically superior shot to the tweener.
And that's after just the top half has gotten onto the court. So after all that talk of easy draws, hard draws, per seeding ...

Umm . . . actually, @73west is right. That's exactly the way seeding works. Seeding is based on ranking. The reason they went to 32 seeds was to help more of the top ranked guys make their seeding and not have to play each other in the early rounds. Not really how it works. Nadal was seeded 4th behind 2nd seed Andy Roddick at 2005 RG, but he was the obvious favourite for the title.

So when you do a generic projection into potential future rounds, you pop in the seeded players by default . . . not the guy who you think is gonna get there. If not, then seeds have no purpose and you could just throw all of the players into a bag and do a blind draw.
It's seeding . . . it's not racquet bracket.
Your initial question was, "Who had Monfils making the 4th round?"I've never heard of "projected opponent" blindly referring to the highest possible seed. FAA was the 6th favourite to win the tournament before it started.
His post brought up the difficulty of Novak's draw and obviously that sort of subjective topic requires more nuance than what you just described.
Your initial question was, "Who had Monfils making the 4th round?"
His reply was, "The seeding."
100% accurate, in that Monfils was seeded 16 and therefore, seeded on paper to make it to the round of 16. Again, that's how seeds work.
I'm not talking about filling in a racquet bracket or getting the line from the bookies. There you can put anyone you want into that projected fourth round slot against Novak. Putting Monfils, a clay court grinder who likes to play 20 feet behind the baseline might seem like a stretch. But you could say the same about putting Felix there, a guy who had never played best-of-five on grass until today, and never played/won a match at Wimby (until today).
Djokovic will have to break an ankle to not make the final and since his ankles are basically made of elastic, that ain't gonna happen.
Calling it right now. Someone called it before i believe. Querrey to take out thiem tomorrow in the first round.
I don't know if you're being facetious or not. But I'll tell you. I think Querrey actually could definitely take Thiem out. Over the last few years, Querrey has actually adapted his game very well to grass.
I'm pretty sure nobody wants to play Querrey. The same goes for Anderson. They have serves but they also actually have ground game.
SOMETIMES Querrey has a ground game. Other times he looks atrocious. Watch his match last week against Fritz for example.
A month ago I would have said Thiem rolls easily in this matchup. His Joe Kovic no-warmup tournament strategy combined with Sam finding a bit of form last week makes this a very possible upset.Agree. That final was horrible. That was way worse than the garden-variety Querrey lapse... where he goes away for a set. That was just terrible. Anderson (who I think is most similar to Querrey) is far more consistent and a better mover.
But I definitely think Querrey is good enough to beat Thiem. Even if Querrey does his usual "choke for a set-and-a-half"... I think he can win.
Well that is not a surprise Zedzilla is the worst netplayer from the top 1038 out of 45 for vesely when it comes to net points. That’s pretty good. Zverev was 26 out of 50. Not so good.

The draw is rigged. They want big 3 in the semis for more attention. The all have it easy. The first real match will be Federer v Nadal in the semis, followed by the other real match between the winner there v Djokovic.
