Hope so too, but her thanks in the post match speech seemed reluctant. Perhaps it was just my interpretation.

What I like about Świątek (aside from her play and on court manner) is her humility - at least that which she showed in her thank you speech. No arrogance whatsoever, and genuine thanks to those closer to her.

Perhaps we should rename Kenin as Captain Obvious?

A little over a month ago she lost in straight sets to Christina McHale @ Cincy. Then Azarenka beat her pretty easily @ US Open (not a bad loss though). Less than a month ago she lost in straight sets to Aranxta Rus @ Rome.

Then she wins RG without dropping a set. It’s not a particularly logical progression...

That's not true. Azarenka publicly praised her. Aside from loosing to Osaka, this was the toughest match Azarenka played at USO 2020

While your point about fluke is so correct, we need to wait and watch. The examples are so wrong. Serena?? Greatest ever in terms of achievement
And Sharapova? 5 slams with a career grand slam.

Better example is Ostapenko. Won unseeded the FO like a superb force, then faded away.
I'm saying Serena and Sharapova did not win their second majors until a couple of years later, so if current players win more--but it comes a few years later, its not necessarily a sign of career disaster.

Sofia Kenin was born in Moscow, has Russian parents (who moved to the USA a few months after she was born), resides in the USA and plays for it. I don't know why she decided to become a USA citizen. Maria Sharapova, for example, has said she will never give up her Russian nationality to become a USA citizen, although she has lived in the USA since she was seven years old.

what

it's not surprising at all

she moved to the US so early that she will have no conscious memories of ever having lived in Russia. So it's only natural that she feels more connected to the country she grew up in and lived in virtually all her life.

With Sharapova it's less surprising that she kept her original citizenship, seeing as she lived in Russia till she was 7, and will therefore naturally have a much stronger connection to that.

Big difference between moving from a country when you are a couple of months and seven years.

Has she kept her Russian citizenship, or did she have to resign it to become a US citizen?
