5.0 Players, what are your strings of choice?

Does Luxilon still make and sell this string? I can only find it for sale in the US version of TW.

This is the answer I got from Luxilon when I asked for a EU seller:

Ace is a string which will be replaced by Alu power 115.
This is the reason why it is now difficult to find as it is phased out.

Back when I was a 5.0. I played with Prince Pro Blend (kevlar mains/syn), then with thinner gauge kevlar blends. It would last me a couple/few months. Nothing else would last any length of time at all.
I still often have a racket strung with kevlar in my bag for maximum control, but I don't hit the ball as hard anymore and other strings will now last a good amount of time.
Now I play mostly with gut/SPPPP to be comfortable on my now worn-out arm or ALU/alphagut for maximum performance (for some reason ALU mains /nat gut crosses just doesn't feel right to me personally.

I did the same thing when I last played 5.0, Pro Blend at 65 lbs in a Wilson Hammer 5.0. I used the 18 gauge and it'd last me about a week. It also blew up my arm. I had TE so bad I couldn't lift a beer with my left arm. I finally changed rackets -- Yonex RD Tour 90 -- and more importantly string -- Gosen JC SynGut 16 and in about 3 weeks, my arm was back to well. It was amazing. It's taken me forever to recover my swing though.

I don't like regular 1.30mm Cyclone but I think @J011yroger would likely snap 1.30 VCT pretty quickly since he snaps RPM blast 1.35 mm in 3 hours. Wish VCT came in 1.35mm

When it was prime time and 5.0 was the rating, the best natural gut was the only choice ever considered. But that "good" (meaning resilient and lively and powerful) natural gut is no longer available - a much stiffer, less lively and "more durable" gut for hybrids and wider spin patterns is the norm now. (Yes, I have handled and strung them all.)
(Please, Pacific, keep producing the good stuff... the stuff that serves lights out...)

Same boat, got bumped too . I use Solinco Hyper G 17g, I like trying a bunch of other polys but I just prefer the spin and control from Hyper G.
And last about 3 days to a week depending on how much I use for matches.

Oh, I saw an arm surgeon. Over time, he gave me about a dozen injections of cortisone. He told me at one point that the injury would probably "burn itself" out. He went on to say that he didn't know if surgery fixed a problem like mine or the year I'd have to take off to recover did the good. Thankfully, I didn't have to go under the knife.

Luxilon is mostly targeted at pros and semi pros and the ones who want to emulate them. Nowadays no wellknown pro is using super thin strings, so thats why Luxilon is not very interested. Didnt they introduce a thicker Alu jubileum string thia year?

my .02 Please return the VCT 1.18 and exchange it for 1.30 VCT, or simply throw it in the trash. Do not string it in your frame. VCT is only playable in the 1.30mm version if you are a 3.5+ rated guy and hit with any topspin whatsoever. The 1.25mm loses tension so quickly it is like a completely different string compared to the 1.30mm VCT. I can imagine how quickly the 1.18mm version would lose tension.

I have been using VCT 1.30mm since 2014 and have bought/strung over 20 reels of VCT since then. I had a friend purchase it against my advice then asked me to swap his 1.25mm reel for a reel of my 1.30mm when he complained of the tension loss and string movement. I told him to throw is reel of VCT 1.25mm in the garbage as I had absolutely no use for it whatsoever. People don't seem to get it, so they buy the 1.25mm VCT version thinking it plays like other 1.25mm strings.

VCT 1.30 works well for three now 5.0 players with a history of TE. (SC, AH, and PC have all had issues with their elbows and don't like stiff strings/frames) Saw AH last night after hitting with a bunch of 4.5 & 5.0 guys. AH uses VCT 1.30mm in Pure Strike 2nd Gen 16x19 frames, after using Head Velocity 1.30mm in his Babolat Pure Controls for the past year. He has no issue with VCT 1.30mm and he is coming from a multifilament.

What is VCT a co poly? Is it a heavy string? Some polys are very heavy some are light.

What is VCT a co poly? Is it a heavy string? Some polys are very heavy some are light.

volkl cyclone tour, yes it is a very soft copoly and yes it is quite heavy

I break around the 2-2.5 hour mark. I feel like the tension has dropped off, not that it’s gotten remarkably stiff. It can feel a little bit stiff if it’s sat in my bag for awhile without being used, but I normally cycle through racquets so frequently that this doesn’t happen.

16 4.5 men were bumped to 5.0 in Charleston SC who weren't able to appeal down. I string for eight of those 16 players on my Alpha Ghost, so I can give you their setups and frames. 3 of those 8 were previously rated 5.0 and now back to 5.0
Their initials are in parenthesis behind the tension.

All use VCT 1.30mm with 16x19 frames except for the one using a 16x18 and one using a 16x20 pattern. Their names are easily confirmed on the USTA website.

Yes it's soft and has a little extra pop but I have no problem controlling my shots with it even after it's lost a fair amount of tension. VCT is very soft for a poly, ball pocketing is great. It does however lose it’s gear shape quite quickly so it ends up playing like a round poly after ~4 hrs of hard hitting. Another thing I noticed was that, it feels significantly heavier than other strings such as tourna s7t or natural gut. It almost feels like leaded up natural gut...all the softness but much heavier. I use it as a hybrid with VCT 16g mains/SPPP 17L crosses strung 44/42 in my VCP 100. I am a 4.5 hard hitting aggressive baseliner.

@rooski what part of CHS are you playing out of ?

I see many of these 5.0 guys battling it out in the singles ladder. All those guys playing singles helps them break strings quicker and gets me more business from them. Really good group of players in that ladder.

Cohen has a slap tear in his shoulder and will have surgery in Jan. He also plays with a Pure Storm Tour VCT @ 50 lbs . He is the guy who got me connected to so many 4.5 /5.0 guys so thankful to him.

Revolution is one of the three or four strings I always put in a 4.5 guys frame when they are testing new setups.
