Well, it was far from obvious to me. But then so many of Murray's opponents mysteriously seem to spring sudden bouts of fatigue when playing him, don't they? But scratch my head as I may, I just can't manage to think why that should be! :)

Of course it's Murray's fault if he was out of shape. Don't you know by now that Murray has this strange effect on his opponents. He must have the luck of the devil!

But of course, if he were to beat Nadal we would no doubt be hearing how much more 'tired' and 'fatigued' and 'out of shape' poor Rafa was!

i'm sorry, you are quoting me on posts i never made?

I'm seeing things ! Fantastic performance ?

Lucky you mean !

No one gives Murray credit here - IT'S IN THE TW RULES !

But thanks anyway ! :)

I repeat - hope you'll grant me one of the 2:
Congrats to Murray and his fans.

Not sure if I voted or not, but I too regarded Nishi as the pre-match favorite.
Now please crucify me for that as I obviously showed no respect to Murray at all

....(or alternatively, please stop with the 'you guys predicted Nishi, you're all a bunch of haters/no one respects the Muzz'-song. It's truly tiresome by now).

WHOA, the murray brigade is out of control tonight and they even seem butthurt that some people picked nishi over their guy as if predicting anyone else but the scot is the ultimate disrespect

someone needs to restore order and put them in their place it seems

rafito seems like the prime candidate for this

Bloody hell, I do apologise! How the frig did that happen? Those posts were veroniquem's not your's. I always copy and paste the poster's details when replying to each part of a post and for some odd reason your details must have been stuck in my browser for the last 2 bits. I've edited the original post to show the true poster's details.

Once more I apologise for that. It won't happen again!

Yeah, because losing to the best clay court player ever is worthy of scorn.

Whatever happens tomorrow, Murray has had a great tournament and I am proud to support him.

Oh so WE'RE the ones out of control? I had the impression it was the legion of Murraydowners on here who, with their customary disrespect for Murray and his game, blandly assumed he was gonna get roasted tonight!

Maybe if they'd been a tad less disrespectful towards Murray and acknowledged even the remote possibility that he might actually win tonight, we Murray supporters wouldn't have had so much fun throwing their ill-founded assumptions back in their faces! :)

Lol, he just won his first dirt tournament ever about 5 minutes ago, and suddenly he is the "...best clay court player ever." Over react much?

Is it me calling people who don't like Murray "Boring and Dumb"? I don't care who people like or don't like.

Ask Snake and Nalby about this, they're the pillars of fun and intellect right?

Wow, I didn't think it would be this straightfoward. Murray in his first Clay Masters final. Well, rooting for Andy anyway....

Fantastic performance from Murray, really didn't think he'd win that easily. Congrats to all his wonderful fans out there in the dark - I just hope I'm saying the same thing tomorrow night!

See, I told you you are getting good at predicting these kind of tournaments.:)
Sadly Murray won't be able to find his serve or BH for the finals though I hope I am wrong and it is a close and exciting match. His job was primarily to take care of the potentially troublesome Nishi for Nadal , just like Berd took care of Isner

That said, congrats to Murray on his first clay final. I used to always tell Mainad that Murray will have a good clay season for a couple of years before his back surgery and then his clay season would be a blowout and his injury issues would typically flare up at that time. I am glad he is finally having one and I hope it doesn't just stop at a clay final.

Murray is my favorite top player, but I don't think he's going to beat Nadal. No way does Nadal let this opportunity go to waste.

Nihsikori is somewhere between Murray and Ferrer. Much closer to 33-year-old Ferrer than to Murray.

I honestly could not pick a favorite in this match but I was pretty sure it would go 3. I disagree about "winning" the whole thing. After the Berd match, I thought Nadal would be favorite vs either (even though I also think Nadal still doesn't look like 2013 form, he definitely doesn't look that unbeatable).
But he did in the 2nd set, Vero. I have not seen him start to hit lines like that and dominate in about a year.

You can't be serious

Don't you claim Murray is as good as Hewitt to prop up your idol Fed? Or isn't he a top player anymore?

It better not. SHOCKING. ;)

I'm about to watch the match now. Couldn't see any of it earlier. I was at work. But I was too curious to wait, so I checked in here to find out what the result is. Now I have to find out what happened to Nishikori.

Disappointed that he the must have fallen apart, but I'm rather excited to hear Murray is playing better. Even if he loses, the fact that he is playing this well on clay (never a good surface for him) is a very good sign for his fans.

Did I miss something?

Did I miss a typical #KneeJerk reaction to a player doing well (not winning) in (2) grand slam events and SUDDENLY tagged as the next BIG THING in tennis. Then fails.

Well done Murray, and let's not forget last time he played Nadal he won 6-2 6-0 on a different surface and exhibition but that needs to be said :D

I am serious. I just don't idolize him like you do the Djoker.

What's wrong with claiming Murray is as good as Hewitt? And why does saying that mean I'm propping up Federer?

Truth is they are both very similar players.. And whether you like it or not, have played at around the same level at their comparable bests..

Hewitt is(as of now) the greater player but Murray is the better one.

I disagree.. I believe they play(ed) at almost exactly the same level. My views on this haven't shifted and are unlikely to do so unless Murray adds a substantial amount of titles and or more Grand Slams..

The above mentions people who predicted Nishi..."as if predicting anyone else but the scot is the ultimate disrespect." Nowhere is disrespect mentioned about losing to Dull, so learn how to express yourself more clearly, you arrogant putz.

You are way off. I was talking about Mainad goofing up HTML quotes, which he fixed, and apologizing, saying it would never happen again.

Just humorous kidding. ;)

Very surprising result.

In last two weeks Murray has done more significant things on clay than he did throughout the career. Two Finals in row and multiple wins over top 10 players on clay. Well nobody saw it coming.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this or not. It's worth of mention that Murray's average first speed was 9-10 kph above his usual average 182-83 Kph. He got lot free points through beast serving which minimised pressure on second serves. He has clear game plan today. He won this match by consistent 1-2 powerful punches, powerful backhand returns or returns overall. For him key to the match was not engaging lengthy rallies, finishing points quickly by perfect retuning and punishing short balls with forehand. He implemented it perfectly. I remember Nishikori had clear upper hand in long rallies with 9-1 lead at end of the second set. On clay occasions in which player with such a huge advantage in rallies loses the match are very rare unless it includes servebots. Credit to Murray having perfect strategy to cover his weaknesses.

Nishikori disappointed me a lot again which is becoming a trend of this season so far. Having talent alone don't ensure you winning matches. It takes clear strategy, execution and mentality to succeed at top level of pro Tennis. He lacked all those yesterday. He still has to a lot of work in mental department, he's clearly not very comfortable at the Top of Tennis yet. He was all cylinder firing till quarters and suddenly deflated yesterday which reminded me Murray's horror show against Dimitrov in Wimbledon last season. It happens to every player. It will take a time and numerous losses like this against top players to finally develop 'Nothing to Lose' mentality. His journey as top pro has just started. Very tough but even more valuable defeat.

D.Nalby being complimentary about Murray?!

 Thanks guys and gals for the big laugh I had, reading through this thread this morning.

I've supported Murray for 11 years now; never a clay final, and then two come along at once. . .

I would love to repeat that remark tonight replacing "final" with "title", but to be honest I'm not sure he has enough left in the tank to beat the greatest clay courter ever on his favourite surface. Regardless, a great couple of weeks for him. He has shown flashes on clay before, but for several years his back troubled him, more on clay than any other surface. Some people seem to think he should have recovered from back surgery as quickly as from a sprained ankle: it didn't happen, it has taken him until this year to feel comfortable and able to trust his back.

It's noticeable there are no comments on him grabbing body parts after losing a point - because he hasn't been doing it. It could just be because he WASN'T ever faking but had real problems, which now are hopefully cured.

He's trying to be statesman like, and give the 'one nation' view on tennis.

Lets see if he can keep it up.... ;-)

AND he made some Very interesting points about that useless lucky Bum Murray .

ref - It's worthy of mention that Murray's average first speed was 9-10 kph above his usual average 182-83 Kph.

Must be pure luck or the wind was behind Murray playing on a clay court that played like a hard.....

How lucky can Murray get ?????

Thanks Dave ! :)

I don't know which portion of my post you liked and believe as complement to Murray. I posted my subjective view about match as I usually do.
It was a great view. Agreed on all points.
Much better serve is the key for Murray if he's ever gonna win big again.
