His strategy makes me want to tear my hair out but he's got enough weapons that--if used better--could make him a contender.
It's just that I don't think he'll ever get there.
Absolutely battered Thiem. How the hell did anyone think Thiem had a chance? Well, good luck to Thiem, he's a decent young player.
Yeah, I was half joking.
Thiem was fighting hard but he doesn't have it upstairs, that's my opinion.
Hooray!
Thiem was fine, you can't criticise him really. Other than that first serve percentage, obviously. This matchup, as it does with other players, presents insurmountable challenges for him. Nadal is brutal.
Roll on the grass court season.
Yes i already knew that in advance. Just based on mental strength the only one who could theoretically have pushed Nadal a little would have been Djokovic. He is still a little in Rafa’s head due to their history. With all the other players it was crystal clear from the beginning that they wouldn’t be able to withstand the pressure of facing Rafa in a FO final. For the 10,000,000th time: who in their right mind expected any other result? Thiem actually outperformed the predicted 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 scoreline. He was never going to win this match even had Nadal literally had a broken leg. He's mentally weak and a choker in big moments. He's the opposite of what 19 year old Sampras was, when he casually and with no nerves shot down Lendl, Mac and Agassi to win the title.
The only way to beat Nadal on RG is to rob him of time, stand in close to the baseline and take everything early. Also attack the net after serving him wide. Did Thiem do any of that? No, nor did any sane person expect him to.
6 slams in a row for Fedal, alternating.
AO 17 - Fed
RG 17 - Nadal
Wim 17 - Fed
USO 17 - Nadal
AO 18 - Fed
RG 18 - Nadal
Nadal will win another GS this year, I think. The other's will be taken by Djokovic and a newcomer.
I hope to see it becomes 7 in a row next month, alternating. And then 8 in a row, without alternating.6 slams in a row for Fedal, alternating.
AO 17 - Fed
RG 17 - Nadal
Wim 17 - Fed
USO 17 - Nadal
AO 18 - Fed
RG 18 - Nadal
***** finally the most boring part of the season is over.
See ya in Monte Carlo Nadal fans!
Don't think he has it anywhere - not to beat a well playing Nadal on that court
Ready for the grass season? The butthurt is strong with this one.
It's time for a new coach.Thiem plays like an idiot. He’s a male Madison Keyes. What value does his coach seriously add?
Thiem won two more games this year than he did last year! So much for my optimistic prediction!
Seriously, Nadal is a phenom/freak of nature at this event, especially at the business end. He can win this tournament for another few years(if he isn't injured.) There's absolutely nobody who is coming close to being able to beat him here. Two generations of useless youngsters who can't step up at slams if their lives depended on it. That's why these lesser tournaments mean diddly squat and I probably won't watch a lick of tennis until Wimbledon.
But congrats to Nadal. He's truly a wonder. Unbelievable athlete and an unbelievable competitor, the best ever IMO.
Ready for the grass season?
Fedfans: where would we be now if Roger had not won the additional slams from 2017 onwards???
PleaseI'm not talking about beating but pushing a 32 year old Nadal to 4 sets.
That really shouldn't be too much for the Prince of Clay, the clay titan, heir to the throne, better CC player than Fed etc.
grass bad for my knees no? where clay?
And it's frankly hilarious that he did.But he did, so what's your point?
If Nadal didn't win the USO he'd only have 16 slams now.
Come on, you know that’s not true.especially now when it's more and more likely that we have seen his last Slam.
It's time for a new coach.
My point is that I’m relieved. In 2016, it seemed very unlikely that Fed could add three slams. But he did, so what's your point?
If Nadal didn't win the USO he'd only have 16 slams now.
Magnificent, astonishing, epic... Got to really appreciate what this guy has done in his career, especially now when it's more and more likely that we have seen his last Slam.
Let's hear it again.
