How Many Racquets Have You Broken?

I'm sure I can't be the only one here with a bit of an anger problem out on the court. It's taken care of these days, for the most part, but there are times I'll admit that I miss the sweet feel of smashing a racquet into the court after a frustrating double fault or missed forehand. So, I'll go first and list the racquets I've broken:

-An old Head racquet I used when I first started playing, it was some ****ty oversize. It really started the whole trend of racquet abuse for me. I've bounced it off the court and over the fence of our local courts. Finally, I cracked it over the netpost, and proceeded to smash the hell out of it on the ground.

-Two Babolat Pure Drive Roddicks. The first I broke in half on the ground after a missed volley in a game of doubles I believe. The other actually ended up breaking on a forehand, though that was due to cracks from some of my outbursts.

-A Jack Kramer Pro Staff woodie. This was probably my favorite racquet I ever played with. It was the only racquet where I felt like I had total control and could swing as hard as I wanted without having to worry about overhitting. But, I was mad about other things one day, and let those issues get in my head during a friendly game, and proceeded to smash the **** out of it. There's another wooden one I enjoyed playing with that I broke as well, but the paint was coming off and I'm not totally sure what it was.

Wow. This thread was made just for me. I've actually kept a tally Well where to start...

2001 (age 12) - 3 Ti Radicals

2002 - 5 Ti Radicals

2003 - 2 Intelligence Radicals

2004 - 6 LM Radicals

2005 - 3 Pure Control +

2006 - 4 N95's (16x18)

2007 - 3 N95's (16x18) + 2 K95's (18x20)

2008 - 2 MG Prestige MP (so far...)

I set the record at my academy for most broken rackets in a year twice in 2002 and 2004.

2 x ncode npro surge.

First one was chipped while tossing to bag and hitting a bike (i know who brings a bike onto a tennis court?), strung it up, mis-hit and crack

Second was compliments of a pusher, lost the first set 6-7, chucked my racket into the fence and cracked at 10' and 2'.

None. The rackets I use are better than my ability to use them...so there's no point in "punishing" them for my own stupidity (choice of shot), or lack of footwork/laziness.

You must be a rich man! ;)

I've broken some 25 and 26 inch size rackets when i was young, but since then i have only cracked one racket, be it due to a mishit. I believe it was a Head LM Instinct.

I have broken just the one and i hope that will be the only one. Losing the last game in an important match i really should have won.. I kept my cool right until i shook hands the proceeded to walk over to the net post and from that point i was minus one Pure Drive!!

2008: PT280, RDX 500 mid ..........:(
1987 (?): Snauwaert Chicago

After the loss of these beauties trying to contain my anger/frustration.

I wonder if slamming the racquet... like federer (whereby he racquet face is parallel to the ground as opposed to safin's full throttle perpendicular smash) would actually extend the smashing life of your racquet. i know, why did i even ask

i've never broken a racket in anger. only through accidentally throwing it onto the floor during a serve a smash. and i've done that 3 times

0 for me 2... I even cringe everytime my racquet has to scrap the ground off of a low ball. It's to the extent I let my opponent get the point if it means going for a very low ball...

Call me ghetto, but I put head tape on my racquet...

two over the years, both through extreme frustration and both in the 12 o'clock position as a result of them being rammed into the court. I am not proud of breaking racquets though and vow never to let it happen again:oops:

Whoa quickj!

I think you handily win this contest. :)

So, let's start a new poll on how many you're going to break this year, next year, and the so on.

I say 1 more racquet this year, 4 next year, 3 in 2010 ....

Personally, I've never broken one. I like my racquets too much.

If I ever become animated in physically venting my frustrations, I'd probably start bringing a baseball bat and use it instead to pummel the oncourt trash can or bench ... hence, saving the racquets. :)

never broken a racquet and don't plan too unless some sort of misfortune and it snaps from mishit .

Funny thing is that I play tennis to get out anger sometimes.

I would never smash a racquet on the floor with anger because 1. You look stupid. 2. Wast of money. 3. Shows that you are mentaly breaking.

it seems that some of you are very suck playing tennis...iM saying that `cause it has to be really bad to brake racquets don`t you think?

I've only ever broken a squash racquet.
Not even properly, a hairline fracture from hitting the side wall... was very upset :(

Although, I broke a friends (v.cheap) racquet.
you know the ones where the bridge (hoop at the throat) is plastic and "stuck" onto the rest of the frame.
I blasted a shot at him when he ran to the net, he volleyed and misshit..the plastic broke straight off!
(must be over 7yrs ago now 0.o )

None, but once some1 left a crappy racquet on the courts, my friend cracked it & I threw it around a bit. & once when I played racquetball & I used a junior tennis racquet I smashed it up, but didnt crack it. Man, I wanna crack a racquet sometime, but it has to be a crap racquet. Man does it feel so tempting sometimes to break my main racquet when Im playing.

None, sometimes I've thrown my racquet down a couple of times when I was younger, but never hard enough to break them.
Now when I get mad, I just slap my hip and/or just start playing more aggressively.

Too many to count.

C'mon guys... it's like beer. Quit counting after 3... Although, old guys know how to throw 'em without breaking them. Back in the days of wood, that was far more difficult...

That being said... same theory applies to golf - never use a wedge you haven't thrown.

I've broken my trusty old Austrian-made FXP Rad Tour in a CRUCIAL doubles match, and since then it's been sitting in my closet :(

One, and it was an accident. I was having a good long rally with a friend and on a drop shot, I tripped up a bit and barely missed the ball. I swung the racquet in frustration and it slipped and cracked near the top of the head guard. It was a light OS, so it just broke real easily. I have since not broken any of my newer frame, Babs are expensive. Tennis is expensive overall.

At a jr. tourny i had match point at 7-5 6-6 (6-4), hit a nice shot and followed it in, got a bh volley that wasnt really a floater but it wasnt hit very hard either... Had the whole left side of the court to go to, pushed it wide. I was pissed, took me 1 slam to demolish my stik. Needless to say, i lost the tiebreak and imbarissed myself infront of my gf. Calmed myself b4 the 3rd and took it 7-5 6-7(6) 6-3.

I broke three racquets, two Prince O3 Tour MP and a Speedport Tour.

Summer heat, while servicing, my racquet would fly from my hand and hit head first... the three times in couple of years. No anger but bad luck and humidity.

Several out of anger when I was a kid, one when I wasn't even playing, just had racquet in hand. Still embarrassed to this day.

Accidents are another matter. Strangest one was a brand new Prince CTS Approach mid that literally collapsed on the second forehand I ever hit with it. This was at 65#, which was 10# less than I spent the next couple of years playing those frames.

One Wilson Ultra select, which was out of frustration, but I still went on to win the set 6-4 with it.

One Wilson nVision, was accidental though, slipped after a backhand and the pole of the fence was right at my chest so i put my hands up as a natural instinct, unfortunately the racket hit it and snapped.

One Wilson KPro Open, one bounce in the final that we lost a few weeks ago, glad I have 3, I still carry it though, to remind me why to keep calm.
