I crossed over the 10 hour mark on my set of Neon Dust hybrid, and the stringbed has lost tension to the point where flat shots are flying on me and the string no longer grabs the ball like it did when new. It may be that I need to string a little tighter next time I try it to get another few hours of good playability. The strings were notched almost half way through, so were probably going to break in the next couple of hours anyway. These strings had very good playability for me through about the eight hour mark. Firm and pretty crisp when hitting the sweetspot, and muted and not that jarring when mis-hitting. Excellent spin capability and not as much incoming spin sensitivity as Cube. A little bit more powerful than 1.30 Hyper-G when imparting moderate to extreme spin, and about the same level of ball speed when hitting flat.
When I remove strings, I mount my racquet on my 6 point mount stringer and cut the mains and crosses at their intersection in a diagonal pattern. I then take my fingers and insert them into the stringbed near the edges and run my fingers towards the center, to separate the mains and crosses so I can remove them. The Neon Dust strings stayed locked together pretty tightly - way more so than any other string I've used. I ended up taking my awl, sticking it in one of the string intersection holes, and then using it to separate the strings as the edges from the CES were still sharp, and where they were notched would probably draw blood if I forcibly ran my fingers across that spot.
Some days ago, I received this:
It's sitting on top of the Neon Dust hybrid that it will replace. This prototype string is extremely easy to string. There's practically no coil memory and the string doesn't tangle at all. It doesn't feel very sharply edged, and weaving crosses was a breeze as there's minimal string to string friction. There was about medium to medium high elasticity when pulling tension. I took a one foot section and tensioned it, let it sit for 30 seconds, and repulled tension. It gained about a quarter inch, so I double-pulled every string on my lockout stringer. I went up two pounds from what I used when stringing Hyper-G and Tour Bite, so 50 pounds of tension in the center mains and 48 pounds of tension in the center crosses.
Here's the finished stringjob.
The racquet lost three grams from the worn set of Neon Dust. I'll add that back at 3 and 9 o'clock. The string looks and feels thinner than the 1.25 mm that is specified - it looks closer to a 1.20 string to me installed in the racquet. This actually may be okay. I am starting to believe I may be better off going with a thinner and lighter string, and adding that weight back at 3 and 9 o'clock to get a higher twistweight that will hopefully widen the sweetspot just a bit.
I am hitting in the morning and again early in the evening. I'll report back Monday night.
