Strung up my new Alpha full bed of poly from Grapplesnake yesterday and took it for a hit today. It was a cinch to string up, almost like a stiff multi.

Current set up: I recently switched racquets from a Wilson RFA to a Clash Tour 100. I've added enough lead and leather grip to where it's a 12.2 ounce static weight. I'm getting older and wanted to see if the Clash was just hype or real. Well, for me the Clash is for real, however, it is string sensitive, especially plays well with very low tension. I currently use RPM Blast 17g at #35M, #34C. I've been searching for a different string mainly because RPM Blast is a bit too harsh and quickly goes dead, however, it's not nearly so stiff at #35. I strung the Alpha at #40 on my electronic stringer. I'd probably increase it another 2 to 4 lbs.

Groundstrokes: Right away I could tell there was something special about the Alpha string as it was super comfortable. Not one iota of discomfort or plastic type feeling. It felt a tiny bit too mushy as I strung it pretty loose. It excels nicely on flat shots but produced a noticeable less amount of topspin versus RPM Blast. I think if this string was a little bit thinner it would be the perfect string for me as it would be a bit more grippy. I think this string would do great in a hybrid alongside a stiffer more spin friendly string. Lastly, this string set up had a medium high launch angle and decent directional control.

Volleys: The ball went exactly where I directed the racquet head along with a nice thud. I didn't hit any serves as I had a sore shoulder and did not want to be unfair to the strings but I don't see any reason why this racquet wouldn't shine on serves and overheads.

I highly recommend the Alpha string to anyone who wants a softer poly set up yet still get better spin than using a multi. I've tried a ton of other "softer" poly strings and I can safely say that the Alpha is about the most comfortable poly string I've ever hit with. This string would do great in any of the modern stiffer racquets. I might just put a full bed in my RFA whenever I feel like taking it out of the bag for old times sakes:)

Next up I'll be testing the Tour Sniper. I've also just ordered the CES Neon Dust/Liquid Neon Dust hybrid and I'll post those results when I get the chance.

Lastly, the Grapplesnake shirts are like their strings, top notch. The material is very soft and fits just loose enough without being too tight. I'm 6' 182# and a large fits perfect.

Just hit with a full bed of Tour Sniper today. It strings very easy in my Clash Tour with relatively no kinking. It is supposed to come partially pre stretched which explains why I did not feel much give in the strings while stringing up the racquet. I have realized that I do enjoy a less powerful poly but have struggled to find one that is comfortable. The Alpha string is very comfortable but a little too powerful. The Tour Sniper perfectly fills that void of being low to medium in power but still very comfortable. The team at Grapplesnake did an excellent job in making this happen. I can easily switch to this string. I have long fast strokes and like to swing all out. During my 2 hour hitting session there were long rallies where I continually hit within a foot or right on the back line. My hitting partner says it's a challenge returning my heavy top spin strokes but today he went out of his way to say that I was hitting a little faster pace and even a heavier ball. Having said that, I would say that Tour Sniper possesses a little less spin potential than RPM Blast, but it's far far more comfortable AND more predictable. I strung it only at 40#, but next time will string it about two pounds more. I like to start low when trying new strings because I don't care for a boardy racquet at all. I'd say that Tour Sniper reminded me very much of Lux Alu Power but even better and at a much better price. I wouldn't be surprised to see many pros to switch to this string.
Even though I'm seriously thinking of switching to Tour Sniper, I'm still going to test a few more strings by Grapplesnake in order to make my final decision.

No i havent, will do sometimes, did you find Sniper more comfortable and with as good feel and durability compare to alu power?
I echo what liftordie said. I did find it more comfortable than ALU Power but in all fairness I've never strung my Clash Tour with ALU Power. The reason why I say this is because the Clash makes just about every string more comfortable. However, I did not like the comfort level of Luxilon Smart in my Clash. I've only hit with Tour Sniper for about 2 hours so the jury is till out regarding durability but so far it appears to be very durable as I don't see any notching and I hit the ball pretty hard with lots of spin. Tour Sniper also looks a bit like ALU Power being gray.....at least that's they way I remember ALU Power. The main aspect I liked about Sniper is that it allows you to swing all out as long as your technique is proper. This type of string requires one to be honest with oneself regarding one's level of play. If you don't swing all out then I'd suggest trying Alpha as that is one very comfortable string that rivals the feel of a multifilament.

One question (to anyone)... if alpha is comfortable as multi... what good poly characteristics it excels in? I am guessing control better than multi, durability? How is tension maintenance.. how may hours would one get out of it before cutting it out?

Much better spin and control overall. Sorry, but I can't comment on the tension maintenance as I've only hit with it for a few hours, but so far it's been good.

I just ordered Alpha. I use an RF97A which is fairly string sensitive so I’m really curious on how well this will play.

Some more thoughts after playing some workouts (AKA more rallies and all court and less sluggin the ball for fun). The strings (Irukandji in mains, OGSM in crosses) do seem to move a lot more compared to the MSV Focus Hex, but they don't feel like they're stuck in the positions. They smoothly move back when I straighten them out. Going to this larger gauge, I definitely don't have as much feel as before, but I am much more confident on my hits. It's weird, when I first got the strings, I felt like I was constantly hitting the sweet spot over and over again. Now, the sound is very muted, but I am not shanking the hits (not too often anyways!). I am coming up on about 8 hours of play now, I am not sure how much others are getting with their strings.

Overall, I still like the string more than the MSV Focus Hex. I think getting 18 gauge in the MSV was a mistake as there was just too much power. It would have been more fair to compare a 16/17 gauge MSV against this Irukandji. If I can get maybe 6-8 more hours out of this set I'll be very happy, but that might be pushing it. I really wish I had a stringing machine!

Just played against one of the bigger hitters (4.5) I have in my singles rotation, and I think this is where the virtues of Alpha shone most for me. With heavier balls and more pace coming my way, I really appreciated the control of Alpha, and could respond in kind with good cuts of my own. Power didn't seem to be lacking at all. Where I was most impressed was with my approach shots, and when coming in on my opponent's drop shots. The predictable trajectory made it easy for me to be aggressive with my forehand in these situations without hesitation.

During some casual doubles yesterday, after a day of bbqing, I felt like the string was feeling pretty low powered. But today, with my feet moving, and in a more competitive match, I thought the power level was just about perfect. It performs as advertised.

@loosegroove
I tried Alpha for about 10 minutes (very short) on TT100 (310)... too little time to judge but it did feel very nice. I really want to put it in my VCore Pro97 310 for a real-test. Just recently, I swore to stay out of polys... hahah (insert Godfather here... "just when I thought I was out... THEY PULL ME RIGHT BACK IN!!").... Joke aside... I do not mind giving "softer" polys a test once in a while to see if it agrees with my arm... especially with so much praise to comfort I want to give this one a shot. I did play with X-perience before with no problems on my TT100(310) but that string is too powerful for the frame. It was even too powerful for VCP97. However, it is soft. Softer than many multis that I hit with.. at least to me.. Never gave me elbow-issues. TT100 is a very open pattern with quite a bit high launch angle.. I think it is best if combined with a really control oriented string. I cannot judge whether Alpha is good for it... If control is good I am sure it's decent but it could even be little too powerful for the frame. Anyways, like I said I think this is a very good candidate for my control frame (I also have Phantoms but recently I am trying to transition to VCP97... I love the control of the frame).

@liftordie
Have you played with Alpha? If so, how would you compare power and comfort to X-perience? I already know I would give the control to Alpha even from 10 minutes of hitting and feels like Power is just right. Comfort I feel like only time tells... (at least 8 hours+ before you can really judge comfort, hence my question...)

Will never try Alpha. Too powerful and not spinny.
But I'm pretty sure it's a great string!

@AA7, even having had that great singles night with Alpha in my Phantom Pro 100, I still think I prefer a little more pop from my poly for most days in that racket (keep in mind I'm only a 4.0 player). I played X-Perience 1.18 in the Tour 310, and I think the 1.30 would have been a much better fit. Keep us posted how the Alpha pans out.

Did you find alpha similar comfort to x-perience btw? I am paranoid about comfort as you can see...

I didn't get to do an apples to apples, since the X-Perience went in my Tour 310 and Alpha in my Phantom. But based on that, I might have to give the nod to X-Perience for comfort factor.

I am surprised you didnt like x-perience on the phantom then... my only problem with x-perience was too much pop..

I only had one set and strung it up in my Tour 310, probably would have been better in my Phantom. Also, I broke the 1.18 X-Perience in like 3 hours, which was no bueno.

I find X-Perience 17g a little more comfortable and definitely powerful than Alpha 17g in a full bed. However, testing out the Clash 98 with gut in the mains, Alpha might be a better cross than X-Perience (more control, less power, since the gut will supply power). I have yet to test that setup. I have a reel of Alpha to use. Also have a half reel of CES.

RPM Blast Rough 17 felt good as a cross with gut mains. I only had 1/2 a set left. I have a crap load of old strings. I'm trying the original RPM Blast 17 in the crosses today as I have a few leftover sets of it. Then I'll move on to using my Grapplesnake. I probably should have purchased Tour Sniper instead of Alpha. However, I was considering using Alpha in a full bed only.

Friends at TT,

We are happy to announce that Gerald Melzer, with a best ATP ranking of 68, is now a sponsored Grapplesnake player, and is using our Neon Hybrid in the tour.

Gerald has defeated great players such as Martin Klizan, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Paul Henri Mathieu, etc.

This is another milestone in our still short existence, and we are happy that more and more ATP/WTA Pros are putting their trust in us. This is truly unheard of for a young string manufacturer. We are now sponsoring more than 15 Pros, all of whom could have a chosen ANY other major string manufacturer. They have chosen us due to the quality of our products.

I need to get around reading this entire thread but can anyone refer me to the consensus on which Grapplesnake string has the best playability throughout its entire lifespan prior to snapping? I care more about consistent playing than anything else. I hate it when strings go dead/harsh or trampoline.

Any thoughts regarding how Alpha would perform in a hybrid setup with gut? I’ve recently developed elbow issues, so have to make some changes in my setup. Going with a softer racquet, but also going to explore a hybrid setup. However, I just recently bought a reel of Alpha :/

I’ve not experimented with hybrids previously, but from what I’ve gathered from the forums round slick polys are best, and I know GS offers some of these types of polys intended to be used for hybrids. But with Alpha being shaped, would it saw through the gut too quickly to consider it?

I've only tried Alpha and Tour Sniper and really like the Tour Sniper especially for the consistency......The Grapplesnake man knows his stuff; I've listened to him and it's paid off.

Alpha's edges aren't very sharp, because we wanted to achieve that spin consistency with it. It will therefore do just fine as a cross along with Nat. Gut in the Mains.

It's a very good option, also considering that you're looking for an overall soft set-up. You might not want to string it too loose, especially if you have a power racquet.

Just put in a few hours of hard hitting with gut mains and Tour Sniper crosses in a Clash 98. Feels much better than RPM Blast in the crosses. More bite/spin and control. Feels more comfortable as well. I want to try a full bed next as I think the gut might add too much power (or need to string it at a higher tension).

No one showed up to my group lesson yesterday so I got a 1 on 1 class with my instructor doing lots of net practice. Really enjoying the strings now. I actually feel like they have more life than they did last week so maybe I just need to get used to the strings some more. That said, I will still likely restring next week.
