Played with them for the first time last night. Comfortable and lighter than my vapor 9.5’s. No issues with the slants. Kinda like them. They work. How often are your feet together when you play?

any chance all of the negative reviews/comments are adidas plants to thwart the shoe's success? i've used mine for 2 weeks and they are just as comfortable as the 9.5's. no issues here

How's the width in comparison with the 9.5s?

I have wider feet.

Ive read from some posters that X are narrower but I really dont notice, they feel very comfortable and good, maybe a bit more snug but its even better to me personally, not uncomfortable at all, they feel great.

But I have clay outsole version, not sure if its different than a normal version, some people say its slightly less narrow for some reason.

Just got them.. they really are even better looking in real life... I really like them... so pretty

Are those the clay version? I know clay version has a tighter knit mesh in the toes, which it looks like yours do, but I also thought that the clay-court version had the RF logo on the tongue as well.

Never mind. TWE has pics of both pairs with the court logo on the tongue. So it would appear from peoples’ pics that there is no version with the RF logo on the tongue. I wish TW would put up the actual version of this stuff, always seemingly Nike, and not sample versions. If TWE has them, why not the parent office?

They can only sell what Nike allows them. Nike frequently offers different things in different regions. I had a friend get me a Dimitrov shirt that only sold in South America; I’ve been in Asia and found shirts there that never made it to the States.

I do recommend X to anyone, I was a bit sceptical because a few people had some negatives about them, but they have proven to be great.
Very snug and comfortable and I feel like I move great in them.
This is with a clay outsole tho, cant speak for that other outsole.

Someone tried Vapor X and Cage 3 to compare width and overall characteristics?
They're both light, both have a shank that does contact the court when I play in them. Cage feels bulkier, Vapor X seems slicker. Cushioning is sufficient in both. Vapor X will have a more adjustable upper. Cage will have a more durable upper.

The Vapor X feels the more secure of the 2 to me overall, especially in the forefoot. I still prefer the 9.5 fit and lacing system more though.
Cage 3 is like a slimmed down version of the Cage 2, which makes is more snug. However, the "cage" does stretch out with use and then you will have to use the lacing system to secure the foot.
I find the heel cup fit of the Cage 3 to be better for my feet, the same as the 9.5 in heel cup fit. It could be the sock liner. With the Vapor X, I found I had to use all the lace holes to feel as secure in the heel cup. Arch support is minimal in both.

Must say, I love the new vapor x after being somewhat indifferent to the 9.5. Hoping the air zoom zero are to my liking as well.

I just tried on the Vapor X and tested them in my lounge room. Compared with the Vapor 9.5 Tour, the Vapor X is snug, but the length is unchanged. Due to the shape of the toe box, which seems to curve inward more than on the 9.5s (although the shape of the insoles are exactly the same), I had plenty of space around my inner forefoot and big toe, but there was a lot of uncomfortable pressure on my outer forefoot and little toe.

To make matters worse, due to the lack of reinforcement on the outer side of the toe box (it's basically just mesh), my forefoot was sliding off the insole when changing directions (side to side). This wasn't a problem with the 9.5s because the 9.5s have some leather reinforcement as well as those plastic 'fins' which provide additional rigidity.

I will be sending the Vapor X back.

I already have this lateral pressure issue with 9.5s, so sounds like a no from me too; would going up a half size alleviate the problem a bit?

I went up a half size based on this thread, which was great advice. One weird thing about the shoe is the bottom loop and material on the inside of forefoot really protrudes out far when you flex your foot. And as has been said, the laces are a bit short.

For me, I think that going up half a size would alleviate some of the pressure when standing still, but it wouldn’t solve the problem of sliding off insole due to lack of reinforcement on the lateral side of the toe box.

Unfortunately for me, these are going back to Nike. First time since the 3.3's that I couldn't make a shoe work, oh well. The shoe just has less volume than the 9.5's from my experience. I could have gotten used to the plastic piece pushing against the outside of the foot, but overall there just isn't enough depth in the shoe. That is one of the things I like about the 9.5's. Thankfully loading up at the outlets a year or two ago on an old FO color way has me stocked through the season.

My Vapor Xs are going back to Nike. I'll have to wait for the Air Zoom Zeroes, I guess.

So, I recently got a pair of size 10s (normally wear 9.5 in the Vapor 9.5). The length is fine, better than the size 9.5 in that it gives my forefoot more room. But the width is a little exaggerated up there after going up a half size. With the new FO color way, I didn't experience the dreaded "slide" because of the shank plate hitting the court. I experienced that in the "Bred" shoes, but I also go those in a size 9.5. The upper is a little sloppy coming from the 9.5s. It's not as form fitting. And it's too hard to adjust the laces to be just right. Oh well. The Vapor Xs can't be a one-size-fits-all solution - but neither were the Vapor 9.5s.

I agree, the laces on the Vapor X are difficult to adjust because they don’t pull through the eyelets easily. They get stuck and it seems the harder you try to pull, the more resistance there is. Also, as others have mentioned, the laces are way too short.

I just got another new pair of 9.5s. For me, they are the perfect tennis shoe, apart from the poor durability. The fit/comfort and support/stability of the 9.5s is way better than Vapor X. I really don’t understand how anyone can play in the Vapor X. That lack of lateral support/stability when changing directions side to side is an absolute deal breaker for me.

After 1-2 sessions, they loosen up quite a bit. I wouldn't recommend getting half a size bigger, because they are actually kinda loose now. I would stick to your normal shoe size.

I have found the X to be better than the 9.5 and content with their upgrades.

The lateral and transitional support is glove like. The width in the forefoot sole really helps for making quick cuts. I am also a fan of the diagonal slant in the heal, another thoughtful design for pushing off.

The lacing is a pain, but i have found pulling one at a time and outward to help. When the shoes break in the lacing issue is irrelevant..

Are you wearing the same size as the Vapor 9.5s?

Xfactorer, yes I am wearing the same size That I wore in the 9.5. No complaints, but the only vapor that wasn’t true to size for me we’re the 2005 versions, not sure if those were the speeds or not.

The Vapors weren't true to size for me. I had to wear size 9s in those when I normally wear a 9.5. In the Vapor X, a 9.5 was too tight in length, the 10s were too generous in length. :-( I hope the new Zoom Zeroes will be my new shoe of choice... otherwise I'll be trying Yonex.

I will def be trying the zoom zeroes on at least. They look and sounds intriguing, with the forward slope and full zoom.

When you're standing in the shoe, there's no noticeable slope in any direction. It just feels like you're standing on a well cushioned, flat surface. If you rock forward or backward, then you'll notice the curvature of the outsole. Feels really nice.

So you purchased a pair? Has a glove like fit like they say?

It's very glove-like. For me, I wear a US Men's 9.5 in the Vapor 9.5. In the Vapor X, it was a tad tight in length. I moved up to a 10 and it was a tad loose. Ultimately, I've moved away from the Vapor line. I might be settling with the new Zoom Zero.

Good to know, i am tempted to pick up a pair very soon

I see you swing the Ezone 98. I am loving mine, got a matching pair back in March.

A lot of people like them and have no issues, too. So, give it a try!

And yes, I'm swinging the EZONE 98... for now. ;)

i used the Vapor 9.5, they seem to fit me very well with little breakin required, the lateral stiffness is great.
the soles seem to wear out pretty fast, so i am on my last pair of Vapor 9.5s. most likely i will migrate to the Vapor X, and have heard that they fit tight. for me tight is ok, as i have a medium to narrow width foot. are the Vapor X and Vapor 9.5s the same length?
i really dont care about the sole wear out issue, as i will just get a few more pairs
i transitioned from the ASCIS GR7s, which didnt have a sole wear out issue for me, but lost lateral stiffness, which
was concerning, as i didnt want to roll an ankle. i even put in aftermarket insoles, like superfeet to improve the lateral
stiffness.

i will go to the LTS and try on the Vapor Xs, and compare them to the Vapor 9.5s.

Sth is wrong with the lacing system on X. It doesn’t secure and lock down the ankle area secure. You have to overdo it with lacing the upper very very tight. Yesterday i sprained my ankle because the shoe also slides a lot.

I've been using the Vx for the past 3 weeks of play on clay only, while I'm on my last pair of V9.5s for hard court.

No issues at all with the X. They feel and fit great, even going with the same size as the 9.5s. I actually like the feel of the tongue better on the X, it's thicker and more cushioned. I do like the lacing system on the 9.5's better though, especially on the 3rd eyelet downwards, the laces slide easier and make the shoe conform right down to that part of the foot. However, no problem.... If you put 2 second more effort in, you get the same result.

Traction has been great with the clay pattern, no worries at all when sliding as well as when stopping. Comfort is also fantastic, but I can't really compare apples to apples between the 9.5 because I use the X on clay and that's more comfortable by default.

I don't understand at all the negative reviews in this thread, the only explanation is that some people have incredibly particular foot shapes I guess.

Both the Cage 3 and Vapor X run very narrow. Fit of the Vapor 9 and 9.5 are much better.
i am planing on buying a few pairs of the Vapor 10s, as i have two Vapor 9.5, no issues except that they seem to wearout
faster than the Asics Gel Res 3,4,5,6,7s that i was using for the past 6 years. since i am in the SF BayArea, all we have are hardcourts.
i feel that the Vapors give me more stability and better ankle support than my Asics

if the VaporX are slightly narrower, thats fine with me as i have a med-narrow foot
probably will get one pair each of black, grey and white
i cant wear the "new" colors like cranberry, red or orange! as i am an old school dude

I initially didn’t have any issues with the slickness of the bottoms... they in fact seemed to have good traction and were quite squeaky.... until last night I had an awkward slide while retrieving a wide ball on the backhand side. It kinda shook me, but other than that, I have had no other issues with the traction.

Anyone else think they are a little warmer than the 9.5s? I mean they aren’t as hot as my old barricades from a few years ago, but they seem to run a little bit warmer.. or maybe it was just the heat and humidity yesterday.

I have been wearing Vapors since I started playing tennis about 8 years ago. Here are my thoughts on the Xs after 20+ hours of play:

Pros: more comfortable and durable than past Vapors, they have the usual Vapor quickness, foot feels locked in, the colorways have been great overall

Cons: the traction feels weird / sometimes gives out when you don't expect it, my ankles feels very stiff after playing singles (never happened with past Vapors), it's very difficult to adjust the laces

The traction and ankle issues are too much to overcome for me. I picked up a pair of Asics Solution Speed FFs and have been very pleased so far.

Was it the shank plate catching the court?

Now that I think about it, that was probably it
Just look at the shank whenever you can. The wear on the plasticky pyramids will be evident. I had that issue in the first try of the Vapor Xs. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's been addressed in new Vapors. But maybe not.

I have had that issue in the Cage 3s (and Cage 2s).
