I just busted my IG Radical MP. I need a replacement just like it but wasn't able to find one in the current market. Can someone advice me on a racquet close to it or better available currently? Thanks a lot!

Hey, thanks a ton for the response! Unfortunately, while I'm aware of that link's existence, I don't know enough about racquet temrinology etc. to make an informed decision, and hence the thread. :)

Email me if your interested in buying a 8.5/10 Head Youtek IG MP. It's a 4 1/2" L4. I have plenty of references. rtodd.rose@gmail.com

IMO all the Radical MPs play about the same depending on how sensitive you are. I really like my Microgels that are still available. Add about .75 of an oz. spread around for more solid feel make it about 6 pts headlight string it towards bottom of the range and you should be good to go.

Yeah, I sort of broke mine, so I'm looking for a replacement of the same or a new racquet in today's market that plays the same or better :)

Maybe the Pure Strike 16x19 or the Pure Strike VS? I would also think DR 98 might be a good replacement. If you don't mind the less HL balance, I think the current Blade 98 CV's are fantastic frames.

I'm sorry, it was IG Prestige MP, I made a mistake. Just checked, no IG Radical MP unfortunately there...

I'm in London right now, so that makes things a bit inconvenient -
Do you know of any racquets in the current market similar to it or are like it but better?

Unfortunately, the Microgel series seems a bit tough to find as well. Can I ask what the similarities between the 2 are since I've never used a Microgel racquet? Any other available on the current market? Thanks!

?!

By all accounts the various head techs made little difference to how the racquets feel- it's marketing.
Only with the graphene series are there radical changes

Microgel and IG radical mp are very similar. I've played with the radical (18x20) line since the Microgel and I'm currently down to 1 IG and 1 YouTek. Basically, the Microgel has a slightly different beam shape (more straight/box beam) and a softer flex. Swingweight came in a couple points lower as well. They feel a little different on contact, but play the same basically. IG has a bit more pop for me.

A racquet I've tested a while ago that I could switch to without any adjustment was the Yonex Vcore Duel G97 310. Although the feel is completely different, it just matches my style of play. The DR98 was closer in feel for me, nice flex, but plays rather differently. I haven't had the chance to hit with the Prince Extreme 100p, but on paper it seems like it should be similar as well.

Wilson blades are also similar, although their swingweight and balance is a bit higher.

Al suggestions given above are worth a try, so I would try to demo a couple of frames and see which you like most. Or else you can still try to get some microgels or IGs on auction sites.

Okay, now I'm really confused gah! I'm deciding between:
The Youtek IG Radical MP, Youtek Microgel MP, or the Wilson Ultra tour. Not too keen on the Yonex unfortunately! Anyone have any opinions?

I'm 23 YO, and use an eastern single handed backhand, and a semi western forehand.

I also Richard Gasquet my grip, so there is always additional weight on the handle to make the racquet more headlight. I'm leaning towards the Youtek IG, but I'd love to hear pros and cons! Thank you guys for being such a helpful community!

it comes down to feel, here is a review of the wilson ultra tour:
So, again I received my Ultra Tours early. Strung one up and hit tonight.
A little context: build up the grip from a 1/2 to in between a 5/8 and 6/8 (3/4), added 10 grams of lead to 3-9, and strung with 17g nat gut at 54 (with 10% pre stretch for all of you stringers. Total weight: 380 grams. Have not measure balance. I'm a 4.5 player with relatively flat strokes and often hit a slice backhand. Been playing with a Head Microgel MP 18/20. Hit with the DR before the micro gel.

In short, the Ultra feels great. Feels super plush (not sure that this equates with flex) even compared to those other rackets. Great depth control, touch, and no problem at all with plow through (yes, granted this could largely be a function of the weight, but my other rackets were in the same ballpark.) Felt like it had more power than the Microgel and that the launch angle was a little higher (yet, probably still low compared to all the rackets out there given its string pattern). Volleys met out in front of my body were rock solid but that maneuverable (yes, perhaps because of the 380 gram weight). Flat and slice serves felt effortless.

Not sure that this is the frame that many contributors to this thread wanted (I can't compare it to a pro stock), but I bet we'll be seeing a lot of these on the courts in the hands of good players the coming years.

when the wilson feels more plush than the microgel (which should feel more plush than the youtek ig) than i personally would prefer the wilson (i play with a lm radical and didn´t like the ig radical because of the feel and stiffness). but the wilson is 10 gramms heavier and more expensive.

Ah. Thank you. I'm just wondering if the smaller headsize would mess with me and all. How would you directly compare the Wilson Ultra Tour and Head Youtek IG Radical MP; and the IG Rad MP and Microgel Radical MP?

i can only compare the lm radical mp to the ig radical mp. performance wise they were similar, but the lm had a better feel, equal spin and power and was more comfortable than the ig. i have not used a mg radical mp, but since it has a lower ra it should feel more comfortable than the ig, but the mg radical mp now available is a reissue which according to several posters feels worse than the original mg radical mp. since the wilson ultra tour (it has a 97 sq. in. head, so no smaller headsize) was praised by the playtesters i would give it a try are just stay with the ig mp.

The head sizes are pretty similar. As in Head advertises its head size as bigger than it is. I don't think that aspect of the Ultra Tour would bother you.

Most importantly:

That Ultra Tour is svelte

I agree with this! My three came in at 10.8 ounces and about 2 points headlight. I've added about 10 grams under the butt cap making them 316 grams. With overgrip, headtape, and rubberband they end up at 327g and slightly under 6 points headlight. I'm going to see how these play at this weight and balance before adding anything other weight. I predict that I'll add about 3 more grams to it in the head (probably 10 and 2).

When I purchased these my intent was to weight them up to match a Head LiquidMetal Radical that I have...only 18x20 racquet I've ever loved. If I add 3g to the head that will get me to the exact same weight of the LM Rad Midplus and should leave it 5 points headlight..one more point headlight than the LM Rad. Specs at that point should be perfect.

Sorry, that was a long winded way of saying I agree...so with the MG Radical Midplus and lead it up to your liking!

Maybe the Pure Strike 16x19 or the Pure Strike VS?

I agree, this is another great option if you don't like the MG Rad Mid+ option. I have three of these (the old 16x19 version) as well and it was my racquet of choice before I moved to the MG Radicals. I moved to the MG Rad in order to get a little more control and more maneuverability. The Rad came in a lighter than the Pure Strike so I am able to weight the MG Rad up the way I want. With the Pure Strike I wasn't really to modify the racquet much without making it a bit heavier than I want.

Both options are great!!!

To recap, this is what I'm looking for in a racquet:

- Plush, buttery feel
- Stable (while being under 12 oz would be ideal!)
- Tons of control
- Free power (if I'm not asking for too much)

On the basis of that, I'm trying to decide between these racquets: Wilson Ultra Tour vs Prokennex Kinetic Ki Q+ Tour Pro (35) vs Prince Textreme Tour 100P vs Angell TC97 (18x20).
Not in a position to demo them as well, so I'm stuck. SIGH.

You still can buy the stiffer edition of Microgel Radical MP (62RA instead of 57RA which was available for last couple of years). This could be nice update – giving it more pop and power without loosing control/feel.

I would also recommend to try out the new Graphene XT Prestige S. I really like it a lot. I have a collection of almost all Radicals MP since Ti - but I guess YT IG was maybe the best one (or Ti/iRadical L5).
