Well, the edge is obviously with Djokovic. But, today's win will hopefully give Denis some renewed and much-needed confidence. Djokovic can be shaky in early rounds. Still, he's obviously the better's choice.

I would actually want him to go out a bit early ( not the second round of course maybe the quarters) . He got his level back in Madrid no need to overexert.
He knows as of now( with Rafa being all over the place ) Winning RG is between him and Thiem.
He needs to prepare himself mentally more than gamewise especially for the kind of pressure and hoopla a possible 4 in a row might bring.

Cut the hype, he will be just fine. His match is Wednesday.
He had just 4 matches - all straight sets at Madrid. Finals was a breeze. Absolutely no reason to see him lose before finals as he has a cakewalk draw here.
Shapavalov, who is struggling, is an ideal opponent for a clay tournament.

I'll have to watch with my eyes closed, LOL. I know the odds are against Denis winning, but stranger things have happened. He's got the talent, but he needs to play at peak form. Can he do it? Can he rise against the odds? Will Novak crush under the pressure? Will Denis be a hero tomorrow for Canuck tennis? It all unfolds tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Both players are basically baseline bashers.
The big difference between the two however is that Djoker is FAR more consistent than Shap in rallies.
Unless Shap takes big cuts at the ball early in a rally, Djoker will simply outlast him in them.
And if Djoker starts to dictate in a rally it'll be lights out for Shap.
The first few games will set the tone for the rest of the match.

Head problem? I think he's as mentally consistent as almost all players his age except for Tsitsipas. And, at least he doesn't go around destroying property or beat his head with his racquet. But, otherwise, I agree w/ you.

I have no idea what you're referring to in this discussion. He's 22 in the world at age 20. Nothing wrong with that. He's been in 3 Master's SF and a number of QF and plays an aggressive game that needs to mature. Anything else is superfluous.

In case you haven't noticed Shap is an impulsive player.
To really excel in tennis you need to think like a chess player, several moves ahead.
I have yet to see him do this on a consistent basis.
He's also prone to making poor shot selections (ie. not using his head).

Impulsive? No. Aggressive. Yes. And by the way, how is it you know better than the actual players? LOL. I see all players making poor shot selections from time to time, the high ranking and lower ranking players. If you know what he needs to excel, send him a message. I'm sure he's eager to hear from you. #armchairtennis

I agree with that but I'm starting to see him construct points a little better, and I'm starting to see more patience in rally's He definitely is trigger happy and he will always fight that but I will believe in him evolving until he doesn't.

As someone pointed out elsewhere he only needed 4 matches to win Madrid (none of which went the distance) so he will have plenty of energy left. He'll be fine. Routine straight setter (sorry, Denis).
