Pretty stacked draw. No byes. Prize money obviously down compared to last year(took the place of the Citi Open in DC)

Serena could play winner of Venus/Azarenka in 2nd Round. Gauff could play Sabalenka in 2nd round. Anisimova-Beliis 1st Round.

Qualies start tomorrow, Leylah Fernandez plays Renata Zarazua, a rematch of the Acapulco SF earlier this year. Bethanie Mattek Sands plays Lepchenko.

Fair amount of non Americans entered(Konta, Watson, Jabeur)

Not going to bother posting a thread for Prague too so i'll post here but damn Genie is in the zone. She's got Stubbs as a coach and she just bagelled #40 Kudermetova (Bouchard is ranked #330 in case people had forgotten through this Covid chaos).

Top Seed tennis club about to kick off Konta Vs Bouzkova.
Incidentally Konta's last match before lockdown was a loss to same opponent.

I predict a Konta loss here.
Happy to be wrong but..

No doubles for the Williams'???? Seems like a small draw and one they'd dominate to get extra matches in.

Fernández won her last Qualie match, plays Sloane next, she beat sloane in Monterrey.

gauff plays dolehide.

no lights and thunderstorms that are common this time of year could make for a tough schedule for players this week.

Cici Bellis vs Amanda Anisimova taking place in the first round Tues morning. Is there live streaming on this in the US?

Appears to be live streaming available on betting sites in Europe. How about North America?

^ Never mind. Just found the Lex tournament, along with both Prague & Palermo, is on TC Plus. They have On Demand replays for the Sabalenka-Brengle match and others available.

It's a good thing she won, she flew a long way for a tournament, given the circumstances. I think she is the only non-European in the draw.

Currently for the main draw she is but Egyptian Mayer Sherif has qualified so she’ll move in. And also in qualies there was Aussie Storm Sanders and Ellen Perez as well as Argentine Nadia Podoroska.

Brengle v Sabalenka.

Petch commentating on Prime Video, scathing of Brengle's technical flaws. What she should have had help with as a junior..
Said it needs the top players to be off their game to get a look in.

2nd set Petch, second set [emoji846]

The world according to Petch[emoji3]

Other commentator said it was like watching someone with a sword and someone with a shield. Guess who had the sword? [emoji23]

Third set, Petch will out![emoji846]

Did he mention her serve. Looks rather odd. Apparently, no one taught her to overhand throw properly much less serve.

Despite struggling with both of her service games, Bellis is up 3-0.
.
Looks like CC might have the same elbow drop issue on her serve (trophy) that she did two years ago. Probably her biggest weakness. Might be the only thing that could prevent her from reaching her full potential, the WTA top 10

Para was at 4-4, 0-40 on Serenas serve in second set.

Too bad there's no fans allowed. Lexington just down the road from me. Could have offered Serena a few pointers.

Serena wins in 3rd 6-1. Gets dissed on post match racquet tap from Para.

This post match interviewer confusing Serena as she referred to the turning point of the match several times as 40-0, not 0-40. Details at 6.

I am only 2 hours away and was looking forward to going.. It is a real shame they couldn't social distance us.. but Kentucky has been super strict with their response to "it" and actually that's been a good thing.

Venus looking sharp against Vika. Won first set 6-3, up 3-0 in second. Will play Serena in next round. Should beat Serena, unless Richard overrules her.

Venus’s reality game show I think helping her fitness, energy and flexibility a lot. Cannot wait to see hoe Venus handles Serena! :)

On current form, Serena was sluggish and Venus impressive. But....who knows.
Venus, at her age, may have a let down.
Serena, can be terrible and still win.
The older sibling looked much quicker and solid.
I know I'm in the minority, but I generally find matches between the sisters dull and somewhat artificial- possibly because they are uncomfortable playing each other.

I thought Venus's level/energy dropped a bit at the end of the match, but overall she looked to be sharper and in much better shape than Serena. Serena appears to have lost a bit of muscle definition in her arms and shoulders. Looks as though she may have dropped a couple pounds since the last time she played. I think if Venus is going to beat Serena, today will be the time to do it.
