His problem I think has been injuries above all else, probably hindered him a bit obviously is a concern about signing him too but as a squad player is less of a concern. Don't think Walcott was an extraordinary talent though myself, think he had good potential to become a good premier league player and that's what he's become (personally think Rashford's the same, classic English over-hyping). Yeah excited about Salah, his stats at Roma are very impressive and he is absolute lightening so think he should do well, he's obviously progressed since leaving Chelsea and didn't get that many opportunities when he was there so, while it's a gamble as every transfer is, I think there's a good chance that he should be a success.

True, expect your squad will be improved though, can't expect that sort of luck with injuries next season with all the extra games. Plenty of money after all, does seem strange to get rid of Costa though, hard to upgrade on and I don't really think Lukaku is one, different sort of player too.

I agree on Walcott, pace is all he's ever really had imo. I have to wonder if Chamberlains injuries are because he's been at Arsenal, they seem to have a bit of a reputation for it, the training methods are said to be a bit outdated etc.. it'll be interesting to see if he does move elsewhere and they subside.

Yeah Costa is a strange one, on ability alone it's madness to sell him on. He has a bit of an injury history and his behaviour on and off the pitch is something that counts against him, so I can understand why alternatives are being looked at. The problem is, there just isn't anyone out there better than him at the moment. Lewandowski, Mbappe and Aubameyang would be good, but the former will probably stay where he is and the latter two will receive better offers. Which leaves Lukaku and Morata, which are both serious downgrades imo.

I've been reliably informed that Morata is not a serious downgrade from Costa. Perhaps a downgrade. Serious downgrade is pushing it a bit. All things considered.

Yeah, I'm just saying this because of the United link. Nope. I don't do that stuff. :p

Agreed on Theo Walcott. Poor man's Keith Gillespie.

Haha I just don't think his goal scoring record is good enough, considering he's played for such dominant teams like Juventus and Real Madrid. To replace someone like Zlatan at Man Utd (who was the only real reliable source of goals for them last year), and at the price being talked about for him, it doesn't seem right imo.

I think both Chelsea and United are in the same boat though, it's a position we both need to address, but the pickings are slim. It's definitely a sellers market in that position.

Yeah do wonder about that as well, suspect he is just a bit injury prone but we'll see. To be honest Liverpool's injury record hasn't been great either of late, might be relating to training methods/style itself so I dunno.

Yeah has to be his character I suppose, but I'd keep him about if it were me, having that sort of character who people hate and who winds up opponents is useful. Not the prettiest side of the game but certainly an effective one.

His goals per 90 minutes ratio looked really good, seem to remember seeing it was one of the best in the La Liga last season. Would definitely have Costa over him personally though.

Think that's a bit harsh on Walcott, he's a good player just not a great one. He'd be at least useful squad player in most premier league sides I would imagine, maybe all.

Anyone watching the Confederations Cup? Semifinals will be played during mid-week. Portugal-Chile and Germany-Mexico. Some nice potential.

Some interesting matches, have been watching a few matches and plan to watch the semis and final. Hoping for a Chile Germany final with Chile winning personally.

Portugal' s a disgrace! They should be embarrassed. I think I would even put mexico ahead of them right now.

I knew chile would have a huge advantage on penalties because of the goalkeeper.

Just so England that.

Think he has played for the main side. Been in the squad anyway, he's not a bad player to be honest, deserves to be in and around the main squad even without the quintessentially English penalty missing.

Time for Chile to finally lose a penalty shootout? Not that this competition matters as much as Copa Americana...
That would have been disgusting. Chile were the better team, deserved to win even before penalties. Still p1ssed about them winning the last two Copa America titles though despite not being an Argentine. How fanboyish of me...

Can't see Germany losing this, but I would usually welcome a triumph of an underdog. No exception here.

Should've had a penalty as well in extra time, don't know why they didn't use the video technology for that.

Chile have priors for underdog victories, don't see why they can't do it again. Germany obviously the favourites though.

Yeah, any penalty miss looks horrific. They're a no win situation for the taker really. If the keeper had gone the other way he'd of been praised for being cool and sliding it the opposite side.

You could take the best penalty possible and still end up a failure, it really is a lottery I suppose.

So I attended the Barcelona - Manchester United legends match. 3-1 win for the Red Devils. Blomqvist, Poborsky and Yorke scored the goals for the visitors, and Dehu got a late consolation goal for us.

Ronaldinho is a magician. It's such a shame he didn't sustain his highest level for several more years, on his day he is up there with the best players football ever had.

Nowadays it's really refreshing to see old guys, as well as really young kids play. Physical strength is not important, it's all about skill, and fair play is written all over those games. It's tough to expect this in the most serious game between professionals at their best since the stakes are enormous, but football has gone backwards in the last 10-15 years IMO. Nowadays many will use any means necessary to win.

Sell Ake, beg Roma to accept big money for Rudiger. Makes complete sense

Not like you've got those young players to get to your first team, the young player farm continues. A non-Van Dijk centre back though, clearing the way for Liverpool to saunter back in and pick him up.

Portugal snatched the bronze medal at the Confederations Cup. Looked like it would go to Mexico after Ochoa had one penalty save from Silva and another spectacular close range stop while Neto scored an own goal. However Pepe equalized from Quaresma's cross in 91st minute and in extra time Silva converted the penalty. Cristiano was absent because he left the squad after the semifinal in order to see his baby twins.

Rooting for Chile in the final. Germans ended up winning U-21 Euros a couple of days ago, their seniors are holding the World Cup... I just don't like them at all so their domination is an even bigger yawn.

Man I hate when smaller teams dominate and end up losing to the big ones 1-0 because of their own mistake.

Hopefully someone stops Germany in Russia next year. Preferably South Americans, it's been a while since the last time one of them won the World Cup.

As for United, I'm not really frustrated with things now. This is not my first transfer window. Still a while to go, although every time I saw that there is less time to go. I hope there are deals that are just waiting for the signature. Seems to be the same names over and over. Morata is close to signing, but will he ever sign? And will he sign for United? I guess it is a little frustrating.

If only it was like Milan. I was reading about people being excited about using an improved Milan team on the video games this year. They have tied up 5-6 signings so far. Fabio Borini to bring the glory days back.

It's better to have it done early so everyone is already together during the pre-season, but I'll be happy if all deals are done before the serious games start. Speaking of them, the Super Cup with Real Madrid is just over a month away. Red Devils unleashing themselves against the European champions would be a sweet start and warning to the rest of Europe.

Seems Man Utd have nipped in at the last minute to get Lukaku for £100 Million.

Phil Jones, Fellaini and Lukaku.. solid spine to the team right there ;)

All joking aside.. we're looking at going into the season with one striker, Batshuayi. Not sure if that means we're going to throw crazy money at a Belotti or maybe a Sanchez, both are incredibly unlikely but the alternative of doing nothing is a disaster.

Settle down mate, it's the 6 July, it's still very early in the window.

Lukaku should be a decent signing for Man Utd if they get him, although a very different striker to Ibrahimovic. Cannot believe Everton are actually going to resign Rooney though, really don't think he's good enough for them anymore. Should follow John Terry's lead and go to the Championship, should be more his level or there's always the retirement home in America.

Iheanacho to Leicester is an interesting transfer, think that could be a cracking signing for them, the guy gets goals. One of the best minutes per goal ratio in the last few years, young player think that could be a very shrewd move.

The first televised fixtures were announced today, the season is only a month away  but you're right, it's still relatively early when you consider the window is open for a few more weeks after that.

My concern is more based on how badly things have been handled. The Costa situation, selling Ake, only looking at bringing in players to sell others on (Bakayoko for Matic, Alonso for Sandro). Man Utd nipping in for Lukaku can happen, that's fine. I'd back other top level clubs to fix the situation though. The rumours this morning are of looking at Llorente, which just isn't good enough imo.

Iheanacho is a very good signing yes, he's gone to the right club too imo. At the end of the season it looked like West Ham were the favourites, but I think he'll get a lot more out of his time at Leicester.

Rooney must still have the competitive fire if he does go back to Everton. Not that he will be playing at Everton for free, but the other alternatives are out there. He can still be a valuable player for a couple of seasons.

Manchester United have announced a fee has been agreed with Everton for the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, subject to a medical and personal terms.

It's going to be the 2nd most expensive domestic transfer and 5th most expensive transfer overall. The guy is certainly not better than Suarez but soon Man United's overpaying will have them dominate the top 10 list of transfers.

He scored a very solid number of goals for Everton. Surely he can manage to score more in Manchester and add some in the biggest games.

It's always sad seeing one of club legends leaving. Luckily I think we will cope with that, Rooney hasn't been a regular starter in the last year anyway. Clearly not as amazing as he once was. Shame he declined so early, personally I wanted him to break Shearer's record.

I think Lukaku is a good signing for Man Utd. They need goals and he's got a good record on that front.

I didn't want him back at Chelsea, I feel he goes missing and doesn't have the nasty streak that you need to lead the line in a Chelsea side (Drogba, Costa). There are rumours about Sanchez, but as good a player as he is, I feel the team in general would lose something with him as the focal point.

I don't know if there is a player out there who has the DNA to fill that role, maybe Belotti, I've not seen enough of him. Either way, the way the Costa situation has been handled is the biggest disappointment for me personally.

In a way he is yeah! When you think of the Chelsea strikers in the Abramovich era it's been Drogba, Costa, Shevchenko and Torres. Only two of them have been a success.

Centre backs know they're going to be battered and bruised all game, most often in the big games. Think of Drogba against Barcelona year after year, Costa single handedly turning the game against City away last Christmas etc.. Lukaku isn't that.

I don't think the way Man Utd are playing at the moment requires that skill set, they definitely need goals though and he's got that nailed down. So good signing I think.
