Speaking of sales...
Apart from tennis rackets, have any of you folks ever bought any tennis items (clothes, accessories etc.) simply based
upon the fact that a tennis star uses/endorses them?

I haven't.

I’m a self admitted Nike-a-holic so generally most stuff that they put out, I buy. It’s not necessarily because a certain pro is wearing it. I liked last year’s US Open kits and the last AO kits. This year I passed on the French Open kits. I did buy Rafa’s limited edition Cage 3. I liked the unique look of them.

OK, that's acceptable. :)

Who hadn't foreseen this final, hum? ;)

Konta did not Ostapenko her way to the title, after all, but I'm still surprised with her performance. She proved she no longer is "a cow on ice", to paraphrase our beloved Maria.

I'm also a bit sad for Anisimova. The final was almost there, but she seems to have succumbed to nerves. She's still young, she has time to improve in that aspect, but for the time being it was to sting, even if we consider she's inexperienced.

Might be an interesting final tomorrow. Both are crafty, but both will be nervous as hell (even if I'm also surprised with Vondrousova's mental fortitude to get wins in straight sets after being behind so many times). So, if it isn't well played, it can still be dramatic.
Yeah the crafty players won today, whilst personally disappointed because was routing for Konta, it's is what is it and the two finalist earned their spot in the final, sort of going with Barty, more experienced, but Vondrousova is playing with No weight upon her shoulders, 50/50
Would like Barty to take it however.

Bertens is the saddest.
Sharapova is a no go, even healthy she will probably lost to these semifinalist.
Kvitova might be but Bertens is really missed her chance.
True, Bertens is the one who was robed her chance by that stomach infection, or whatever it was.
Bertens must be cursing the day that virus came into her life. Not trying to diminish Vondrousova or Barty, but I believe Bertens would've probably beaten both. She's a fantastic clay courter and this title would suit her.

And now, let me get back to the ATP threads. The Third World War might be brewing over there.

Not necessarily. Bertens was in the same section of the draw as Konta so they would have played in the 3R. You'd assume Bertens would win that one except that Konta beat Bertens in Rome (on clay) just 2 weeks prior to RG in the SF so that match could've gone either way. She wouldn't have been a sure thing for the title let alone the 4R!

I've never said she was a sure thing, but this was a great chance for her considering how things panned out and her consistency on clay. She could have lost to Konta, sure, but losing that Rome match after going so deep in two consecutive clay tournaments hardly tells me she would also lose now. Hell, Vondrousova lost five times to Martic and lost in Rome QF to Konta and, yet, there she is, in the FO final.

This draw was more forgiving to her than having to play Serena and on fire Muguruza in 2016.

All of us just saying she missed her chance, not missing the title mate :)

Barty up to #3 in the world.

She’ll be #2 with the title and just 136 points away from overtaking Osaka for #1.

After RG we head into her favourite part of the season, grass. All that talk of Petra or Bertens taking #1. Looks like Barty could get there. Has 280 points to defend in Nottingham and some points in Eastbourne but only 3R points at Wimbledon. Huge.

She’ll be the highest ranked Australian female since Evonne Goolagong (I guess?). Both Sam Stosur and Jelena Dokic only got as high as #4.

Wendy Turnbull was the last Aussie to get to #3(in 1985)

Looks like Hingis is maybe eyeing a comeback after giving birth to her first child in February this year at the age of 38

Did she say that? If not – I dunno. She is in her club almost every day, sometimes hitting balls with kids in her mother's tennis scholl. But it doesn't look like a training for a come back.

Ash Barty is now the new number two and is just 137 points from number one.

She is now 31-5 (86%) in 2019.

We are heading into her favorite surface now as well.

Top 10 as of end RG and their title in 2019:

1. Osaka (Australian Open)
2. Barty (French Open, Miami), leading in race to WTA finals.
3. Pliskova (Rome, Brisbane)
4. Bertens (Madrid, St. Petersburg)
5. Kvitova (Sydney, Stuttgart)
6. Kerber (Nothing)
7. Svitolina (Nothing)
8. Halep (Nothing)
9. Stephens (Nothing)
10. Sabalenka (Shenzhen)

These 4 girls winner of nothing, especially you Stephen, better step it up.

Kristina Mladenovic justifies her new number 1 ranking by winning the French Open with Timea Babos.

The #2 seeds beat Duan Yingying and Zheng SaiSai 6-2 6-3.

Does that even matter? According to ScentOfDefeat (who vanished in the blink of an eye come finals weekend), this French Open--like all majors was about the "corrupt" WTA and event organizers giving Serena easy draws so they can "just hand her the trophy."

How has that hate-theory worked out?
