'Novak Djokovic would make my life a misery, but Roger Federer didn't' - Roddick

What rubbish is Roddick talking here? Federer beat him 21 times out of 24 with very few close matches I recall with Federer one of the only players to nullify his serve time and time again but he didn't make his life a misery?? Really Andy? What would Federer have needed to do, beat him 24 times out of 24? I would have thought that losing to somebody 21 times out of 24 would be a pretty miserable experience!

Probably recency bias. Djokovic smoked him in one of their last matches. Roddick got marginally better against Fred at the end (W09, that last Miami win).

Either that or sour grapes over the guy denying him a bunch of slams

This guy would probably have won W03,04,05,09,US06 without Federer. Would have had a shot against Gonzo in AO07 too. Just brutal, that’s an ATG career stopped by a bad matchup with one guy

You guys should actually read the quotes rather than just look at the headline and then go on a tangent. He didn't say those words. Obviously, it has become clear that he has gained great respect from the way Djokovic plays the game and what he can do on the court so no surprise that he wouldn't want to play against his return.

Federer destroyed Roddick's mental game after beating him 3 times in the Wimbledon final. I actually think Federer is the reason Roddick retired so early. Roddick was a failure.

These quotes make a lot more sense when you realize it was actually Pat Rafter who said them, not Andy Roddick.

Seriously, why would Andy say something like "Sampras did everything I did, only better" or "Roger still had too much respect for the big ones and was mentally immature, which suited me.”

Are you kidding me? That’s literally word-for-word at times. LOL.

Well there you go...pretty shoddy reporting on that tennis365 site.

Federer didn't blow Roddick away much, so I can see what Roddick means.
If Djokovic was in his prime it'd mean he'd be breaking Roddick's serve all the time, so he would take away Roddick's strength.
Whereas Federer didn't really take away Roddick's strength, despite the lopsided h2h.
Roddick lost a lot of sets 7-5 or 7-6, so even if he lost in straight sets it'd be tight in a way.

Stockholm syndrome.

Just kidding. Fed and Rod were good buddies, while Andy had some feud with Nole about retirements/injuries or something. So losses to him would hurt more I guess?

In their primes I think Djokovic would dispatch roddick in a much more surgical way. Once novak can neutralize the Roddick serve there really isn't anything that roddick could do better that novak. Fed would def hit more winners against roddick but Novak would torture him.

Someone seems to have pieced together an article to look the way they want it from what sounds like an interview in which he's talking about completely different things. The Djokovic part of what he's saying has nothing to do with the Federer part of what he's saying. In other words: FAKE NEWS

It's all from the same interview they just don't show the questions, which makes the answers all blend together and sound jumbled.

And hiding the fact that it wasn't even Andy who gave those answers...

Djokovic still doesn't know how to play Stan Wawrinka in the Slams. He doesn't know what to do other than engage in baseline rallies against a guy who can neutralize Djoker's defensive game with the power BH.

What does this have to do with Roddick?

Stan's basically retired. Djoker ain't worrying about him.

Even Roddick doesn’t respect Fed as much since 40-15. You can feel the public and his peers slowly starting to walk back every claim they ever made about him being the GOAT

Djokovic is only 4-2 against Isner on American soil, and Isner always took him to at least one tiebreak. Roddick >> Isner. Conclusion is obvious.

Yep, this thread is funny. The Maestronians trying to rationalize and inject some other meaning to something that is very simple and obvious.
This thread is like microcosm of the whole forum tbh. :D
