MY POLY REVIEWS

Topspin Cyber Flash - My favorite poly of all time when price is considered.

To me it offers particularly good feel/ touch in the forecourt, which is pretty rare for polyester strings. Predictable and arm friendly.
Incredible value.

I'm obliged to offer some quick comments, as I have tried each of these strings at least once.

Ytex Square-X 16L - Black is similar to Monogut ZX Black, except the ZX is smooth. The Square-X is a bit less elastic.

Yonex Poly Tour Pro - I only strung up the 1.20 once. I checked the bed with ball bouncing a couple times in a few days. It deflected a lot more than it pocketed and felt very synthetic. I knew I wouldn't like it so I cut it out. Uniquely soft, muted string.

Topspin Cyber Flash - My favorite poly of all time when price is considered. The upgrade is Tour Bite Soft, a little deader and a little softer feeling.

Weiss Cannon Silverstring - Mid-range in price between Cyber Flash and TBS. Not as good spin or feel as the other two.

MSV Focus-Hex - 1.23mm and thicker are very stiff strings. I like the 1.18 black a lot. Basic shaped poly with good spin if you have good technique. It's similar to Pro's Pro Black Force 1.14, except BF is smooth and round, and a great value when you get the reel.

What would be your choice if Price wasn't a issue ?? I have been using RPM blast again, and it is very powerful poly and in full bed, it generates almost as much spin as tour bite.

My favorite hybrid for clobbering the ball on ground strokes is Cyber Flash 1.25/Gutex Ultra 1.30 @48/53 in my MW racquet in my signature. I have trouble with accuracy for serves with this setup. It's very plush. I've been trying some other hybrids and CF/Kirsch SG gives me more control on serves and is still nice for strokes. The BF/GU setup in my Biomimetic racquet in my signature is very nice too, but it has a more connected feel than CF/GU and a little more connected than CF/Kirsch SG.

I strung a Klip Legend 17/Black Mamba 1.23 bed @57/52 in my Biomimetic 200 a couple of days ago. I won't get to hit with it for at least another 2 months, but it feels comfortable and crisp with great control and consistency. Damn you Winter!

I also like Head Lynx 17 full bed in my Biomimetic 200 @50. Not so much on the MW racquet. And I'll be trying Kirsch SG 1.25/Red Devil 1.19 @54/50 in the Biomimetic as well. It would help me if the inexpensive strings played as well as the others do. I'm not as concerned about longevity for cheap strings.

Hi Mareqnyc, I would like to ask for your recommendation please. I'm looking for a string that has great spin potential and very crisp feel to "de-mute" my Wilson Clash. The 2nd priority is playability duration. Comfort and power is not really a concern. What would you think is/are a good fit? Thanks!
edit: I'm looking at Ytex Square and Solinco Revolution now but more options are always welcomed.

@Mareqnyc have you tried signum pro xperience? if not, would you be interested if i tossed u a set? im located in northern NJ, not too far away from NYC and i play often at binghampton racquet club in edgewater with a group that often has many 4.0s, some 4.5s and 5.0s that play casual doubles if u are interested...

Yes, I did own for a while the TC97. It is actually the most comfortable frame in the whole lineup. I did sell it though since it wasn't my preferred frame. The head is a bit more forgiving then the TC95 although visually you cannot see any difference even laid on top of each other. TC100 obviously the most forgiving. Some people have agreed with me and some have not that the TC97 has more head flex then the other two. I will guess that those who disagree with me play at higher tension 54 or above so don't get the more exaggerated trampoline effect. I play between 48-50 lbs TC95 and have zero problem so very uniform flex in the racquet at both RAs. TC97 at same tension will give too much trampoline effect especially with softer poly. Stiff poly or higher tension elliviate the issue. Perhaps I should have tried to experiment with it longer but I was pretty happy with my TC95 and 100 so I sold it. TC95 is simply sublime and the 100 is a more forgiving version with a bit less control. My main is TC95 and if I'm lazy or I smile don't want to try playing mixed doubles with my GF, I pick the 100 Angell frames are truly unique. I have mine weighted up to just above 12.6oz and play full poly with zero issue no matter how much I play
hey I'm very interested in the TC97 line but I'm worried I may get something that I won't like since I can't really demo it in the states. Do you mind sharing if TC97 plays similar to a Pure Strike or Pro Staff. Those were the racquets I owned before. Also, I don't know if I should get 16x19 or 18x20. People were saying 16x19 has a dead spot and I'm worried 18x20 may be too low powered. I haven't played with a 18x20 pattern before.

I’m not topspn, but I’ll chime in, as TC97 is my frame of choice I also play with ProStaff and tried Pure Strike. So TC97 is playing different. It’s definitely less powered and more control oriented for me. Also requires better technique to generate heavy topspin or slices. There’s no dead spot in mine which is 2019 V3. In terms of string pattern it’s better to buy the one you used to playing and prefer. Hope it helps.

I’m afraid it is not similar. Depending on the specs you pick TC97 will bring a heavier ball with more weight which is normal for any racquet but it inherently has less power than both frames you mentioned. It is also very different in its flex which has more in the head. PS also gives that big heavy spin which is not in the TC97 wheelhouse at least to that extent. The dead spot is easily treatable though with a gram of weight @12.

I'm planning to go with the one with a listed weight of 300g, I assume the 300g includes the weight of the replacement grip? I can add lead to work it upwards if needed. I am playing with a 305g (unstrung) Pure Strike.

Yea I actually prefer the 16x19 pattern. What pattern is yours and how do you like it?

Yes, specs include everything but unstrung. However you should ask yourself what you're unhappy with in PS that you believe TC97 provides.
