New Graphene Radicals/Prestiges for 2014

Yes, its the now the same mold as the Prestige S

Has the Prestige S changed molds as well for the Graphene model?

The IGPS has the triangular throat shaft ( like the Instinct ), 6 bridge strings, and shared holes. The Graphene has 8 on the bridge, no shared holes...can't tell about the throat shaft profile / cross-section from the pics I've seen.

Maybe they just changed the drilling for the S?

January huh, cool !

I wonder if changes on the feel of these frames will be as noticeable as with the radicals.

I would like a soft feel, but the fact that the Graphene line (at least the Speed Pro with which I have played) performs well with low(er) tensions is very welcome.

Hit with the new prestige rev pro, the 93 version for a bit last night. Terribly disappointed. Felt hollow and very pingy. IG mid was substantially better frame.

Graphene line will stiffen every one of the Head racquets. So I too will be curious what it does to the Prestige line and hoping to demo the Radical line. I have already tested all the Graphene Speed line and so far loving how well the Graphene Speed Pro plays.

It's too bad they are going to lighter stiffer frames. Will see what they offer in a couple years time. Hopefully they get it right again.

I hope they just re-issue the pt630 in 18x20 and 16x19 and make many people happy

My shop just got the new Radical MP and Pro in today. Paintjobs are surprisingly so nice in person. Really glad its a matt finish instead of all glossy like the old radicals. Definitely will be needing a demo from me!

Looking forward to hearing back from you, cause I like your comments and I agree with your feedback a lot.

You've just convinced me to buy up as many IG Prestige Pros I can find, in the long-shot case that I may switch back.

I have one IG Prestige Pro and it's an amazing stick. Would never dream of using the S. It's not my stick of choice, just a backup, but I hope to learn the skills some day to master it. It's a very demanding stick, but feels so good. glad to know I have one of the last good Prestiges....

Has anyone hit with the Prestige Pro yet (sorry, too many pages to read through to find the answer to that question)?

I have a test racquet that came strung with Hawk. The overall is pretty stiff/boardy, which I think can be helped with stringing (tension). I'd love to hear some tension suggestions.

What do you think about this Hawk string, any good?

Stiff. Boardy on the outside of the sweet spot.

From memory, 98sq in, 11.1 ounce unstrung, 1" HL.

themitchmann,

thanks for the info.

Just to clarify: are you saying the new Prestige Pro is stiffer than the YouTek IG version?
That seems to be general opinion, at least partly due to Graphene being a stiff (and light-weight) material.

Does anyone know if the specs are the same for the Prestige pro?

Graphene and IG Prestige Pro specs are not the same. The Graphene Prestige Pro is 22mm thick, has a triangular mid section (like current IG Prestige S), and slightly lighter (11.1 unstrung vs 11.5 unstrung for the IG Prestige Pro). Looking at the unstrung weight, the Graphene PP is 315g and the IG PP is 325g unstrung according to Head.

I'm looking forward to the new Graphene Prestige Pro because it's lighter and stiffer and because I mainly play doubles, so it will be more maneuverable at the net. I got a chance to hit with it and it was better in all aspects (backhand, volleys, serve) for me and forehand felt about the same. I can't wait till it comes out.

I'm talking about the new YT IG prestige pro, that's going to be the same right?

The Graphene Prestige Pro and the YT IG Prestige Pro are different weights. One is 315 grams (Graphene) unstrung and one is 325 grams (YT IG) unstrung.

I made a mistake and called the throat of the Graphene Prestige Pro "rectangular" when it is actually "triangular" in shape (looks like the current IG Prestige S).

I took the Radical Pro out for a demo the past few days, played with it quite a bit last night. The demo racquet came with the Head Hawk string, strung at 56 lbs tension. Great control with this racquet, might end up getting this one. Hitting in the sweet spot felt like butter. If I buy it, will probably string up with Volkl Cyclone, my string of choice right now, at around 50 lbs, maybe even slightly less. My current racquet is the six.one 95 16x18.

Tennis Warehouse confirmed a january 2014 release date for the graphene prestige
Thanks - even if it is bad news. Was hoping Head would get it out in Nov/Dec - but understand why they might want to space out their new product drops. My shop also heard they might be making some last minute grommet tweaks (not the color!).

I don't understand this.

Every other company tries to bring out new products before Christmas when people spend huge amounts of money, but tennis companies (Babolat is also releasing their new racquets in January) don't seem to get it.

January makes no sense at all. It's winter (at least in Europe and in parts of the US), the normal season is several months away. People generally spend a lot less money in Jan/Feb recovering from the holidays, especially on luxury items.

In other words, release in Oct/Nov makes sense so people can demo and buy before/for Christmas. The alternative would be March/April, right bofore/for the outdoor season.

The season is over now. The new season and all the hype starts with the AO in January.

Me neither. Christmas is king for spending. I guess you can get someone a gift certificate to be used when the new Head racket shows up in Jan. - just not the same as having a box under the tree.

I'm sure that's the logic; would be interesting to see stats on the % sales in the warm regions of the country where tennis is 12 mo/yr.

I got to hit with the new Graphene Radical MP. So far I think it's stiff, boardy, with no feel.
For those wondering, the new Radical is now a true 98sq.in frame.

Thanks. I did want to know that it was a true 98 although there probably was no point in creating a new frame that was not. I wonder if a Head Classics line might be in the works?

Hey vsbabolat, I see you posting in every Graphene radical related topic the same negative feedback about the racket.
By the frequency of posting your credibility drops aswell. The feel I get is that you sincerely don't like the frame but furthermore want to yell it as hard as you can around the topics. That is ok but you wanna spread it out of the whole name of HEAD by saying "head is really lost".
Don't worry that much about Head, just saying.

Thanks for the feedback. But I'll test the frame anyways even though I don't like boardy frames with no feel.

I noticed that too. He seems to have an agenda. Personally, I love the frame, but like always, you have to try it for yourself. The new Radicals are indeed stiffer than the past year's models, due to the Graphene in the throat and that is where stiffness is measured. But they are no way as stiff feeling as say a Pure Drive. The MP measured 64 and the Pro 68, which is exactly how they felt. Any racquet between 65-70 stiffness feels somewhat similar. If you are looking for an arm frinedly racquet, you should stay below 65 or better yet below 60. None of the TW playtesters commented on the racquets being "harsh" or "super stiff" and I think they would know :)

I guess that you don't know how stratospherically high vsbabolat's credibility is to make that comment.

For the record I have no agenda. I gave my opinion on the racquet. I'm sorry you did not like what I have to say about the Graphene Radical MP. Oh and it feels stiffer than 64 RA. But the playtesters did comment that it is completely different than the Radicals before.

I'm giving my opinion. You should experience the new Graphene Radical MP and compare it to what has been before. You will feel a startling difference. There are multiple people posting up in those threads as well.

How 1 random person feels about a racquet means nothing to me. I have been playing with it myself for 5 days now, so I know exactly how it feels.
You are entitled to your opinion, but like the other poster said, when you keep posting the same negative comments in several different threads, it makes you motives appear questionable.

I have no motives. But its ok for you to post positively in the same threads? I always join in conversations in multiple threads.

OK, lets move on. We get it. You think it's stiff.

Normally I would'nt bother posting when someone says something so stupid, but given that VS is too nice I feel I should. Vs is arguably one of the most helpful people on these forums. His knowledge on head and dunlop frames is ridiculous, as is his forthrightness, so for you to have your little fit about his "agenda" is ********. Also your opinion might be more valuable if you didn't go frame hopping every ten minutes. So before you **** on someone who has credibility I would try to get some.

When youre talking about motives and questionable posting, then it seems you do care what people are saying about the frame you happen to like. Nothing wrong with posting your thoughts on more than one thread, either positive or negative.

How does his credibility drop? He expressed his opinion, isn't this a forum after all for that very purpose?

@JackB1 - weren't your first posts about the new Radical about how crap they felt? Now that you have changed your mind we all should as well?

He isn't the only who thinks that the direction Head is taking with their frames isn't the right one.

The Radical and Prestige Lines are famous for certain characteristics and Head have basically ditched that heritage all together with the Radical Line.

It used to be that every other manufacturer was trying produce a replica of the Head Pro Tour and Radical, now it's flipped and every manufacturer is trying to produce a replica of Babolat rackets. When Head have the Extreme and Speed lines that are stiff and Babolat like, why also ruin the Radical line?

Head have also ditched the Prestige Mid, this is a lot of change to process for fans of Head frames :)

I guess the radical line now competes with the Wilson Blades and the upcoming Pure Strike. But there is very little left from the head line up in regard to what made their offerings unique in the first place.
