Odds says 1.38 Federer vs 3.15 Nadal, seems fair
I really thought Cilic would beat Nadal, here against Federer I always like Nadal's chances but it will really tough, but sure Nadal has a shot, maybe in 3.
I hope he's not too tired, he played a lot of sets this week and played many matches since Beijing

I am For Rafa all the way but I am just happy to see him playing better than what he has most of the year. I think fed is to tough indoors and will probably take it.

But Rafa isn't playing great like he did. Both of them playing on another level than before, and this year Federer been way better than Rafa. So I would still give the edge to Federer indoors.

Problem is this is the strongest by far Nadal has been this year and one of Federer's weakest times. I'm seeing more and more glimpses of the real Nadal and I'm not confident at all in Federer winning at his current level. Hope he proves me wrong!

He already struggles enough on big points even when he's playing his A game let alone with his B game. That should be the difference.

The line on Nadal taking a set is ridiculously generous imo. I don't see how he wouldn't take a set.

At least this time Fed will be used to the heavy topspin after playing Sock in his last match. It doesn't look like the ball is bouncing very high on this surface, so I say Fed in straights.

If Fed loses the first set, match is over for him.

If Rafa loses the first set, Fed has a 50 % chance of winning the match.

That said my money is on Fed in 2 sets. 6-4 6-3.

Could this be the most hyped ATP-500 final of all time?

I think it's because we haven't seen a Fed-Nadal match in almost two years, and the last time Roger beat him was in the IW semis in 2012. The Fed-Djoker rivalry produces far better tennis and more interesting matches between the two.

He has had a day off after each of the first two matches, so I would think he should be ok.
If fed serves well, its going to be really tough with the slow starts rafa has had in each set.

And here it is folks. The excuses already happening before the match even starts...

Seriously man believe it or not , for some people in this forum this is just a match and it has no further bearing on their life. So everything doesn't have to be an excuse, some of it can be just their observation.

Everything is tailor-made for Roger: his home tournament and a faster indoor court which is also low bouncing.

It won't matter. Nadal will beat him 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, something like that. It doesn't matter that Rafa has been in poor form all year and is low on confidence. He always plays splendidly against Roger and Fed nearly always chokes. I would be shocked if Roger takes this. Watch him squander endless BP's and continually return Rafa's weak second serve into the bottom of the net. Sadly, been there, done that, for the past decade.

Indoors or not I don't trust Federer:oops:
Nadal in 2 sets something like 7-5 6-4

Poor Fed. It won't be fun to get schooled by his arch-rival in front of his home crowd :p

anyone calling this rivalry exciting or in any way intriguing is being somewhat dishonest

it's better to admit that Fed hasn't been able to play against his main rival effectively and also admit that you probably have a soft spot (or even a fan) for Hafa than calling this lopsided matchup "fun to watch" or saying things like "I wonder who's gonna take this"

it's not intrigue if most matches have almost the same outcome for one player

This is such an easy match to predict. It never has mattered how good our bad either player has been, it will play out the same. Rafa forehand constantly to Roger backhand. UE will start to pile up on the Roger backhand, GAME OVER. I am a Roger fan, but I cannot see the same thing over again. To easy to predict. It does not matter how good Roger is serving is or how good his forehand is, Rafa will break down the backhand as usual.

The only honest posts in this thread amidst the Nadal fan base which has gone full-Clarky and Fed fan base that has gone full-bullzie.:)

What is the success rate of your predictions so far, you seem to love predicting. Unless it is more than 80, you shouldn't be calling out other folks.
We get it, you don't want to be disappointed. You want to be prepared for the worst and be pleasantly surprised if the result turns out to be different.

Explain how this is one of Federer's weakest times when it quite clearly isn't.

It is an excuse.

I think the poster just meant he is not playing as well as he did pre USO , so weakest he has been this year. I didn't read it as an excuse and I will be very happy if rafa wins tomorrow playing his best regardless of fed's form. I don't care if excuses are made plus I don't read everything as an excuse.

Not enough posts in this thread at all for such a great, great match. Everyone seems a bit scared and timid (in the last page). Bold predictions please.

I've watched both play this week (less so Fed because easy matches), and Federer while showing flashes of brilliance is not in top form. Fed has an unimpressive record in ATP1000 because he doesn't focus his schedule on these events and is totally consumed with majors. Fed will be exceptionally motivated for Nadal, but the quick bounce in Shanghai and this weeks easy matches are not enough.

Nadal on the other hand has been playing a rigorous and challenging schedule in three significant tournaments since the US Open. He is ready to further increase his level of play, and only a fool would think that he won't up his level for this match. In the Fed vs Sock match today when Sock had his act together and was hitting heavy spin (as opposed to feeble shots, or nuking the ball), Federer was not handling these heavy shots well and in the first set was only holding maybe 40% of the time against a Sock in the headlights. This number will go down against Rafa and though capable ov serving over 75% on first serves, even that may not be enough. The only way Fed wins is by applying enough pressure and attack to Nadal so that Nadal cannot hit heavy. Expecting to see some heavy balls tomorrow and a solid victory by Nadal.

All betting sites are hugely favoring Federer. I know Federer would win, but didn't expect that level of confidence.

Can't see the match unfortunately - hope it's a good one and hoping for Federer to come away with a much needed win. Amazed that he's such a strong favourite with the bookies.
Both guys seem excited to play each other again :)

This is Federer's 10th straight Basel final. I believe it is a record breaker, Nadalito had 9 in Monte Carlo if not mistaken.

Rafa played the 1st semi though. That should favor him a bit.

I think people are being too optimistic regarding Nadal's chances in the final. Most seem to have forgotten that their H2H looks completely different on the Indoor Hard courts, where Nadal has only beaten Federer once, and that too was in one of Nadal's best HC form and Fed's worst.
The high bouncing attack on the BH doesn't work on these courts anywhere near as much as on the Outdoor courts. Federer will most likely serve bot and break the weak Rafa serve easily at least once per set.

80% chance the scoreline will be something like 6-3 6-4 in Fed's favour in around 80 minutes. Regardless, I'm happy that Rafa is improving and beating decent opponents and fighting from tough situations. It bodes well for next year.

Hope it's a good match with vintage shots for the highlights reel. It could be the last FEDAL encounter for all we know. :)

Fed has been poor this week, if he was in his summer form I would definitely pick him to win, comfortably.
Although if it is only a motivation issue (mentally) maybe he can get himself up for this. No surprise after his summer that he is a little flat mentally for lesser tournaments

If it is a physical thing, less practice etc. Then he can't turn it on like a switch and is doomed.

Nadal in 3 is my prediction.

Hope it's a good match with vintage shots for the highlights reel. It could be the last FEDAL encounter for all we know. :)

Wow, you could be right. 18 months since the last one. Although there is a 50% chance they will get drawn in the same group at the WTF.

. And one thing's for certain - one of them is gonna be sitting on a record breaking 17th ATP 500 title tomorrow.

They are going to be so nervous with that on the line.

It should be said that the odds are mostly affected by the people who bet, and they have short memories :D
Besides, 3.15 on the underdog still indicates a match with big upset potential.
