too good from fed, especially sets 2 and 3 ......

stan had no answers after set1, where he looked to be dictating from the baseline ..

fed took him completely out of his comfort zone and dictated thereafter ....

Federer should be as physically fresh as possible for a 34 year old. Still needs to get it done in 4, but won't feel too much pressure from pre-match fatique.

Nah. He's playing well, but it's the same as it was against Murray. Completely different match up. Stan is not Djokovic. Plus, Stan gave in a little bit there at the end IMO.
you're right of course. But he's still playing well enough to warrant the hope. Hard not to hope. Even harder to hope. Tough choice. Go Feddy! :D

I'll be honest, after seeing how well Federer is playing if he loses the final I will be very disappointed.

On one hand I agree (it's tough seeing him play this well and still coming up short), on the other hand Fed playing like he did today is why I'm a fan, not his stats/results. He played better than last year which is a positive sign going forward, I may be wrong but I believe he'll get one more slam.

I know Djokovic is the favorite but Federer is clearly in great form. To lose so many last chances will be a bitter pill to shallow. Djokovic has raised his game and it should be a cracking match.

Very good match from Fed, he served well and was clutch in the first set then rode the momentum.

Should be good for the final, not much mental energy expended nor was he in the zone like last time.

How do you rate Fed's final chances? I think what really helped Fed today was Stan being so far back on the return.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I want Federer to play for as long as he enjoys it. Matches like this are enough for me as a fan. Doesn't mean watching his last best chances slip away will be fun viewing though.

Possibly even better than the Murray match at Wimbledon. Pure masterclass. Legendary stuff.
Hard to say, Murray played a lot better than Wawa. Anyway, I'm happy for the win and the level. And happy that Fed got off the court so quickly. He should be as fresh as possible given his court time

I loved the optimism, belief and steadfastness displayed by Roger in that on-court interview.

He really wants this, he believes he can go and take it, and he is as focused as need be.

Final will be a collision of planets.

yeah, stan's return position helped fed quite a bit ...

I'd say in the range 60-65 for djokovic and 35-40 for federer ....(if pushed I'd go 60-40 djokovic)

but no doubt, if djokovic doesn't bring his A+ game like he did at the last 2 wimby finals, federer will pounce ..

a lot will depend on fed's disrupting tactics and if he can get into Novak's head a bit ....

Yeah I know, but tbh I'm just happy he's back in a USO final and if he was playing anybody but Djokovic I'd be disappointed if he lost. It seemed so wrong to me that Federer's last HC slam final was the Aussie in 2010 especially when you consider the blown USO MP's. I've always maintained his best surface is grass, but he is a damn good HC player so to go almost 6 slam cycles without making a HC final was just weird to me even though he obviously wasn't in his prime for any of those.

Stan didn't look like he was out there and had no chance to get into rhythm. Did he go 10 rounds with Vekic before he took the court;)
Credit to Roger for keeping it short, and also absorbing the power in the rallies and hanging there long enough to draw an error.

Yeah for a guy with 9 HC majors to go through such a long stretch with not even a final. Pretty crazy even considering the pretty intense competition.

@NatF @Nathaniel_Near you guys in on our little stunt? ;) the more people are involved, the higher the chance that we catch a quality replay before it is blocked :D

Sorry mate, off to bed now. I wish you luck though!

Advice to Fed fans : Keep your hopes within reasonable limits. Novak is a different breed.
I can't man. With Fed, you don't know how long he will keep playing let alone play this good. So, I will keep rooting and I really think he has a good chance to win on Sunday should he carry this same form. Fed for life!

Maybe you're right. I'm just very pumped up right now. I really feared that Stan would overpower Fed today, and having him win this convincinly was epically cool. He's just moving increadibly well right now! I can hardly believe my own eyes.

I agree with those encouraging cautious optimism about Federer in the final. I'm as over the moon as can be about his performance today but i was the same way after his Wimbledon SF vs Murray. Djokovic is a whole different beast for him, no matter how good he's playing.

True. The best thing about this semi compared to the one against Murray is that Fed did not lose so much energy. On the other hand, the one against Murray was very grueling with many rallies. Fed looks somewhat tired after the first hour in this tourney. I am sure Boris and Djokovic will come up with a plan to keep Fed at baseline as much as possible.

Mostly agree. After Stan blew all his BPs early in the 1st he went away pretty quickly. Serve was not very good; attempts to come to net were weak.

Fed's BH was rock solid again. Sunday could be interesting...

If you recollect beginning of first set, he was standing at the baseline and ripping the balls. Wonder what made him change.

You mean during the rallies or on the return? The problem with Stan is it was either a weak chip or he needed to stay too far back (even on 2nd serve) to take a cut at it and return with decent depth, Fed used both to his advantage fully.

Roger needs to hold off his nerves. He failed at that in the last Wimbledon, played so tense and he lost because of that. IMO,Djokovic played much better in the 2014 Wimby final than the last one.

If he can keep his mind cool and play loose, he has really good chances.
