Yes. It was in Shanghai that his appendicitis flared up and he wasn't sure he would even play but decided to under medication on top of his wrist and back problems. 2015 was Rafa's worst year on tour ever when he lost to just about everyone.

2015 was a horrible year for tennis in general.
I’m sure Fed and Rafa fans can agree that the years of Djokovic dominating were dreadful.

Dubai is in a crazy location considering where the tennis is in the week before and after it. If you're coming from Europe you're asking for 2 jet lags in as many weeks.

Lol, it's completely biased of course, but it wasn't seen as a problem cause about 90% of tennis 'fans' have the same bias. Zverev seemed like a bright light on the horizon but was fizzling out already by the USO and by the end of the year you could see he'd be going backwards raterh than upwords in 2018. Thiem was a plus on the clay side, Dimitrov had some glimpses of great results, Shapo on the US HC, but that's like 2 tournaments and he's still far away from being relevant in Slams. Murray, Djokovic, Wawrinka, even dudes like Raonic, Nishikori all getting injured and ending their seasons whey prematurely. It was ******* *********** awful.

Acapulco probably 'betted' as to be a sunshine double preparation tournament. Good commercial decision probably. Location with no (or little) jet lag in the view of the next 2 famous Master 1000 and same surface of course.

Really Dubai should be scheduled in that time of the year when more Asian tournys are on the run.

I really would love to see an evolution of the golden swing clay court though. All clay court Master 1000 are in Southern Europe. Tennis in Latin America is growing and countries like Chile for example should absolutely have an ATP event. Today we have Quito, São Paulo and Buenos Aires as 250 events, and Rio as a 500 event. That is it.
There could be a 500 in Santiago and a 1000 in Ciudad de Mexico! That would really make the golden swing interesting!

2017 was the most abnormal year in tennis ever. Just because Fedal fans got their highs repeatedly doesn't make it normal compared to 2015/2016.

6 of the top 10 of 2016 went out of the top 10 in 2017, all due to injury, as well as Wawrinka who also skipped half the season and finished in 7th.

Lastly, 2 of the 4 Slams had one player injured in the final, and a third one had Kevin Anderson in the final.

That's not normal.

That's about as far from normal as it gets.
