Stop watching for 5 minutes and miss another Shapo train wreck?Shapo and Chung at 1 set all.
I don't have WTA, but just replayede Shapo's demise and was serving at 3-4, 40-30 and yada yada and a couple DFs and Chung serving for set at 5-3. Shapo got it to 30 all, but Chung continues to goat this set.Watching this French broadcast and they keep switching between matches every 5-10 minutes

Snooze you lose. I'm watching at 2:15 amI'm just watching a stream but its 12 hour difference where I am so kinda late, which explains @prairiegirl 's absence since she might be from Canada.
I was in bed sleeping! ha ha Nice to see he can still win a match. Shapo v. Wawrinka - hmmmm?Where is @prairiegirl as Shapo serves out the set?
Takeaways from the Shapo-Chung match:
The Good - Denis showed good form except for a poor game in the 2nd set. He did face a few break points [as usual], but his serve stood up very nicely. ROS is really improving. The focus was much better. I love the towel over his head as that says to me he's really trying to stay in the zone. Good energy for the most part, except for a bit of a dip in the 2nd set. He did call out to his box or to himself a couple of times, but nothing that stood as anything unusual.
The Bad - Still hitting too many double faults & unforced errors. Although the latter was balanced by his winners. I think that needs to come down. I also feel he still goes for too much, but I do see an improvement in playing percentage points.
The Future - I don't know if this coach is for him or not. That's for Denis to decide, and I think we'll see with future results how that will work out. In the Wawrinka match, he really needs to have a strong focus, play percentage points, and keep the double faults down as much as he can.
It does? Just a typo on my part. And I'm not even close. Apparently, there are some young gals who follow him wherever he goes. Oh, to be young! You must be his number 1 fan. Funny your profile says you are 30 but have been watching tennis for 50 years...
Wawrinka really right now playing about as well as he ever does outside of slams so a huge match to be sure and his serve was very, very good against Fritz. First ever Wawopalov encounter. Really the first time they could have played where both are playing well enough.I was in bed sleeping! ha ha Nice to see he can still win a match. Shapo v. Wawrinka - hmmmm?
Would dearly love to see Denis upset Stan, but on the other hand, I'm so glad to see Stan doing well again. He's a wonderful player. Let's hope it's a great match for both, and may the best man win.Wawrinka really right now playing about as well as he ever does outside of slams so a huge match to be sure and his serve was very, very good against Fritz. Luke Jensen of TennisTV calls it a "backhand and a half", LOL.I love Tsitsipas backhand when he takes it early and hits it for a winner.
This great even is wide open. Tsitsi's serve was clicking today so he's my man to win Tokyo.Luke Jensen of TennisTV calls it a "backhand and a half", LOL.
They are redoing outdoor venue for 2020 Olympics; allegedly only just this one year in the temporary indoor setup. Is the tournament being played at a different venue? It looks like both courts are side by side and indoors. This used to be an outdoors tournament.
Gotta say this even is unfolding beautifully! Bunch of great matches so far:
1. Struff Enuf broke back in 2nd and 3rd sets with Cilic serving for match and then annihilated him in TB with aggression including net play.
2. Chardy in fine form found his best to come through against Dzumhur
3. Stanimal appears back on the prowl with stellar 97% first serve points won against Fritz
4. Shapo righting the ship on serve and beat a Chung who was playing well enough to look like he had the match in hand entering the 3rd set.
5. Medvedev v Schwartzman was simply scintillating tennis - old Meddy is on fire and can't miss from the ground.
6. Klizan cruising and through on heals of St. Petersburg final (took out Johnson, Winston-Salem finalist)
7. Watanuki was a thrilling surprise winner over Haase and just playing red hot with more power and better movement than Nishikori
8. Tsitsipas out of the blocks nicely with some great serving
9. Paire (former finalist) came up with goods over a very game Jarry
10. Gasquet got through against an in form, if chokey Kudla.
11. Tiafoe built some nice form with win over Marterer
The draw is shaping up tremendously with nearly every player in excellent form. (The two favorites at ultimate tennis statistics are Raonic and Nishikori who enter this event in shaky form with Raonic getting quite a few MTOs in his opening match.) We still have three first round matches kicking things off today followed by 4 great 2nd round matches:
