5th meeting and first in a final between the two. H2H 2-2. Thiem's first HC M1000 final. Fed has the chance to win a record breaking 6th IW title. Both battling for the #4 ranking.

Federer in 2.

Something like 6-2 7-6. I just don't see what Thiem can do to him here unless he comes out and actually shows the level of tennis his age should demand. I'll be impressed if Thiem manages to take a set, let alone win.

Federer should win this.

I felt Roger Federer became a little cocky in the last final with those repeated drop shots at CP and ultimately paid the price for it. I am pretty sure, even though it wasn't a slam, he would have felt pretty annoyed with himself for losing that title.

And he didn't win a title at that level.

Tomorrow, I do think Roger Federer is the favourite

This one may not be as easy as it sounds. Thiem is loving the slow, high bouncing court which gives him time to rip the balls.

Fed has to employ variety just like what he did to Stan.

If he plays as well as he did against Stan it can be straight sets. Otherwise this match can go 3.

Thiem won't win more than 7 games.

Jeez, Germanic fanboy in the final for Federer. This tournament is officially worse than the 2004-07.

Don't see how Fed can cope with Thiem's power. If Thiem brings his level from last year's USO, Federer is toast. Fed hasn't shown anything near that level since late 2017.

Theim can win it. I thought he was going to choke it away today for a bit but he held it together. He showed his ability on hard court last USO when he should have beaten Nadal. He's 12 years younger than Fed and looked to be strong today. My heart will always be with Federer but if he has to lose to someone I would much rather it be Thiem than Raonic. I think it will be closer than some believe but I give the edge to Roger.

If Thiem is not 100% it will be one of Fed's softest paths to a big ( 'IW/Miami') masters title

- Gojo, Stan, Edmund, Hurkacz and Thiem.

This would still be a strong draw for a clay masters where you just need to win 5 matches.

Rome wasn't surprising as Roger was not a force on clay since 2012..
Still I think he would have won if in decent form. In 2016 he lost to Thiem on clay and grass in the same fashion, so it’s difficult to tell how much a factor the surface was. I also think if they meet this year on clay Federer will win.

Where? You mean RG? Or just masters?

For me, lots of players can take out Roger on clay. And Thiem is one of them.. if Thiem can beat Rafa in Bo3, then..
