You need to watch court level views of Nadal's shots. The camera angle doesn't do them justice. They look like moonballs from above, but in reality they are 3500rpm rockets traveling at an average speed of about 78 mph.

Nadal has one of the highest average shot speed on tour. Right there with Del Potro.

They’re moonballs. I’ve seen the camera angle and I can tell when they’re floating.

Almost every shot from Thiem is faster too

We're not talking about 2014. That was 5 years ago and a match where Djokovic was throwing up on court. I'm saying based on what I have seen so far, Rafa is not as great today as he has been the last few weeks and Djokovic would have had his chances. Thiem was terrible in set 3 and spraying everything, although Rafa did pick up his level.

A final against Djokovic wouldn't have played out like this. Djokovic never makes these types of mental lapses against Nadal in majors, or at least he hasn't for a long, long time. And Nadal vs Djokovic is played with a different mental power dynamic imo, which affects Nadal.

LOL feeling sarcastic today after the choads and their fake news bs. Lousy hate filled mouth breathers. lol.

Didn't you love the fake news of Novak storming out the other day after bullying the organizers to suspend the match and without waiting to see if the match would be called? The lengths some of these people will go...

Exactly, which is what I was saying. I'm not sure how anyone else doesn't get that valid point you just made.

yep, there's a reason people who call nadal a "pusher" or "moonballer" never provide any data to support such claims - data flies directly in the face of any such claims

for example, in this match, at this point:
winners - 32 to 25 nadal
net points - 21 to 13 nadal
he's the attacking player in this match

i've provided the australian open average forehand and backhand miles per hour data from several years ago several times in the past on talk TW (the only such data i'm aware of - will find it again shortly), and it supports nadal being a bigger hitting baseliner than federer (especially off the backhand wing)

but data doesn't matter to people who like to try to take away from nadal's incredible accomplishments, and who are probably in most instances absolute garbage athletes and 3.5 tennis players themselves who barely understand tennis
