Don't know how Novak pulled it off yet again. In the end, I guess I preferred this hard-fought mental win instead of a blowout. Congrats to Novak: a record-extending 8th AO, his 17th slam title, and welcome back to #1!

Feel sorry for Dom though...this run proved he's not a fluke on this surface and I can see him winning both HC and clay majors in the future. A champion in the making!

When you're facing Novak Djokovic in Slam final, choking is not an option. He has won (last) two Slams finals that he should have lost thanks to his legendary mental strength. When you've to beat Djokovic in big match, outplaying him is not enough. You've to outclutch his too. Thiem got this lesson toady. Slight drop in level for 10-15 minutes cost him a title that should have been his. He has got all tools for to ne a Slam winner but without fixing his head he is not winning anything big (at least till big 3 are playing).

I want to feel bad for Thiem, but he never did anything to earn this match.

The 2 sets he won were when Novak was legit awful and he just kept pushing the ball back in play. Once Novak upped his game even a little, he ran away with it.

Thiem deserved to lose through and through. Nothing in his shots in sets 4 and 5.
