Pretty nice footwork by Boulter, and pretty solid ballstriking for such a wispy girl. Wispy, is that a word?

Meanwhile Sabalenka survives her service game, Boulter serving to stay in the match.

Based on energy level I'm thinking Samsonova will beat Pegula. Even though it's still level in the 1st set, Pegula is standing around like she doesn't want to be there.

Edit: well, not as lopsided as I would have expected based on body language, but in the end Samsonova takes it 6-4 3-6 6-3

Rybakina beats Liu 6-4 6-4. Rybakina's form reminds me a bit of Kvitova, those hunched shoulders while hitting. Maybe it comes with being 6ft tall (yes, I looked that up, they're both exactly 6ft)

Samsonova has been playing at an impressive level lately. She just won a grass court tune up to Wimbledon and recently moved inside the top 100.

I'd given up on Ostapenko after years of extremely inconsistent play after her win at RG, but on grass this year, she's been on fire and could be a legitimate threat to win the whole thing. Or she can revert to form and lose at any time.

Venus just won her first service game after 9 deuces lol

She looks really lacking in match fitness though I don’t expect her to be competitive for more than a set today unfortunately.

Winning percentages in her last five years are not winning majors (her last coming in 1990--long before she retired), which is the only reason Navratilova--like Serena--entered majors events. When the ability is no longer supported by the body, or the ability is not edging opponents out as in earlier years, its time to retire, or continue to show up for one disappointment after another.

You're moving the goal post. Your original claim was that there was some big difference between Martina's belief in herself and her ability to win matches on court near the end of her career and other than her last year, she was winning around 85% of her matches, a win percentage no one on the WTA tour today is remotely close to. So other than in Martina's very last full-time year, that discrepancy didn't actually exist.

What a name! :-D
Right? I wonder what the story is there. Last part means 'graveyard', but I've never seen 'Pattinama'

Edit: OK, since nobody asked, Pattinama is a Moluccan surname (i.e. from Indonesia), and she got it after marrying Edinho Pattinama, a Dutch footballer. So there. :)

She is on fire right now.

#4 Kenin is out. Is there anybody dependable on the women's side these days other than Barty (and Osaka but only on hard court)?

Some dependables (going through the remaining draw): Barty, Svitolina, Mertens, Swiatek, Muguruza, Sakkari. At least I don't associate those names with regular early round exits.

You're right, Svitolina, Mertens, and Muguruza are dependable to reach quarterfinals and lose. Actually, I think Mertens and Sakkari both have good chances to go deep here.
