Delpo may play in the US Open

Please explain how Nadal was not in good form in Miami. Just a reminder, he won the Australian Open and Indian Wells, then went on to win Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome.
Miami is only 1 match. People are talking about a 3 match streak, that was my whole point. Does Nadal losing 1 match, even if Nadal is in great form, make anyone his nemesis?

He played with problems. Maybe before discussing this kind of problem you should do a bit of research.

Sure, as the breaking scores in surfaces makes Rafa's 14-7 H2H with Fed just a claycourt advantage. :)
You can break the scores by slams as well, and tell me what you get. Better yet, I'll tell you:

Clay: 4-0
Grass: 1-2
HC: 1-0
TOTAL: 6-2

As it turns out, Rafa pwns Fed in slams even more than in smaller events.

I hope Delpo can recover fully. But I think anyone that expects him to be back in form this soon is being too optimistic. He might never be the same, actually.

This is what I think too. I really hope I'm wrong.

Why are Nadal and some Murray fans bitter about Del Potro returning? It's only going to be good for the sport and we need new faces around.

Where is the bitterness? I'm not seeing what you are seeing.

What I am seeing, and finding very interesting, is the sudden clamour for Delpo to return from non-Nadal fans. Anybody that can take Rafa out eh? Whatever happened to Soderling being Rafa's worst nightmare? Not so much talk about that these days. Now it's all about Juan Martin being his nemesis on court. The rhetoric changes to suit the agenda. Hmm.

JMDP is certainly a gifted player and he had a fantastic run on his way to the USO title. Fully deserved win it was too. I enjoy watching him play a great deal. I do have grave reservations that he'll ever reach those peaks again after this terrible injury but like I said, hope I'm wrong.

Don't worry. They're clinging onto Delpo as if he was their last hope. They're hoping it will be a triple 6-2 every time. They will calm down big time as soon as Rafa beats him again, which shouldn't take a very long time...

now lets have a look at how many finals they have made:
Clay: 5 - 4
Grass: 4 - 7
HC: 1 - 11
Total: 10 - 22

yeah maybe the H2H of GS might be diff if nadal actually made more finals.

He's five years younger, and on a faster pace than Federer at the same age. I don't think he will get to 16 or end with more majors than Federer (who can still win more), but Nadal is kicking major amounts of butt at his age. Federer couldn't compare at the same...

Nadal is ahead of him but Federer was no slouch at the same age. He had 5 slams and 7 masters series+ 2 Masters cup.

That great. Chang, Hewitt, and Becker all kicked 'major butt' early too. Players develop at different ages. We all know Rafa is an extremely early bloomer. If he keeps it up 3-4 more years than great, but history tells us that the early bloomers usually don't stick around at the same pace for the long run, which is why all this "Nadal's done at 24 what Federer didn't" stuff is just drivel. PLAYERS DEVELOP AT DIFFERENT AGES. We'll see if Nadal's still top 3 in the world and winning slams when he's 29 like Fed is.

It'll be great to see Del Po play again. I'm sure he won't be playing unless he's absolutely ready

Bitter? Not really. Nothing to be bitter about after all Murray owns the one dimensional ball basher del Potro badly. :)

Del Potro is so overrated. Just because he beat injured Nadal and poorly playing Fed, he's a threat for slams now? Hell, even Muzza roasted him again and again. Can't wait for him to be back so Nadal can get some revenge and the bandwagoners to go crawl back into their dark holes.

Totally agreed.

Can you all stop slating poor old James Del Potro?

The guy is doing rehab and the OP is simply stating how he might be able to come back earlier than originally expected, which is a good thing.

Well said!!! :)

I sense a lot of insecurity around Del Potro from the extreme fanatics of certain players. Del Potro has shown he can beat Fedal, the only guy to do it back to back in slam and win the title.

He respects Fedal, as he should. They earned his respect. But he does not fear them, and it seems that does not sit well with some. Even as a fan of Roger's, and an admirer of Nadal's passion, I can sense that Del Potro is the one player who can hurt them. And this game needs him. Hope he gets back to 100%

Just read something that Delpo is expecting to return by the Thai Open in Bangkok, which is in the fall, and he doesn't think he can defend his USO title...

:( :( :(

Del Potro will be back in Bangkock so He won't play the Us Open.

Yes, this is what I read. I just want the guy to be healthy.

He was truly a breath of fresh air, and a legitimate threat to Rogael Fedal, who was becoming a bad matchup for them. I want him back to 100% and then start his assault on the slams again.

I became a huge of Del Potro last year. :)

Good news. Hopefully someone who can step up and spank Nadal

If he plays he's probably not going to be very good. I can see a potential sampras 1994 scenario here.

to play in the usopen delpo's wrist will have to be 100% in 30 days?

is he even able to hit yet?

i'd be very surprised if he plays.

I hope that he heals quickly. He would add a lot to the draw, although it may take a few tourneys to get back his game.

Del Potro is a very bad matchup for Nadal on hards. The ball just comes into his hitting zone almost perfectly.
I was hoping earlier this year to see a matchup at RG with Nadal. I think Del Potro could give him a tough time but you never really know for sure.

Hope he comes back without any recurring problems.

Unfortunate. Del Potro would be the favorite at the US Open if healthy all year. He would've given Nadal another spanking.

Doubt it. Nadal has this ability to turn the tables on players who beat him previously. See Gonzalez, Tsonga, Berdych etc.
