Enough with disrespecting Novak with all this "cakewalk" threads.

People get triggered when Novak is about to win a grand slam. Like bunch of babies "ITS NOT FAIR"

Novak had the hardest, THE HARDEST path to his grand slam titles. Most wins against top 10 players, and always having to beat either Fed or Nadal or Andy Murray. This will be the FIRST TIME, very first time Novak doesn't face either Andy, Fed or Nadal if he wins USO.

  • 2008 AO SF vs Federer
  • 2011 AO SF vs Federer, Final vs Murray
  • 2011 WIM Final vs Nadal
  • 2011 USO SF vs Federer, Final vs Nadal

  • 2015 USO final vs Federer
  • 2016 AO SF vs Federer , Final vs Murray
  • 2016 FO final vs Murray
  • 2018 WIM SF vs Nadal

EVERY SINGLE GS title he won he had to beat at least one of his top three competitors. Give Novak a break for Christ sake ...

Lol he did not have it the hardest.
That said, yes, several seats, if its so easy to win slams, others would be doing it.

Objectively I would say overall Nole probably had it the hardest out of the big 3, at least in terms of who he faced, their form is always debateable

People need to stop looking at names only.

Consider this:
1) Federer is 'supposed' to be hard for Djokovic, BUT only pre-2012-Fed (31yrs old), on HC/Grass.
2) Murray is an easy match up for Djokovic everywhere (edit: HC/clay).
3) Nadal is an easy match up for Djokovic on HC/Grass.

So based on the above match ups, it SHOULD be...
  • 2008 AO SF vs Federer = difficult
  • 2011 AO SF vs Federer, Final vs Murray = semi-difficult
  • 2011 WIM Final vs Nadal = easy-to-normal
  • 2011 USO SF vs Federer, Final vs Nadal = semi-difficult
  • 2012 AO SF vs Murray, Final vs Nadal = easy
  • 2013 AO Final vs Murray. = easy
  • 2014 WIM Final vs Federer = easy bc old-Fed
  • 2015 AO final vs Murray = easy
  • 2015 WIM final vs Federer = easy bc old-Fed
  • 2015 USO final vs Federer = easy bc old-Fed
  • 2016 AO SF vs Federer , Final vs Murray = easy
  • 2016 FO final vs Murray = easy
  • 2018 WIM SF vs Nadal = easy (even though Nadal played great, it's still grassDal vs. grassDjoker AND indoors)
Age and match-ups matter. Or do you think had Federer faced Wawrinka (in SF/F) on many of his HC/Grass slam wins as difficult? (Wawrinka for Fed is similar to Murray for Djokovic).

Djokovic fans have a better case simply by looking at the total slam count without throwing in the opponents he faced. ;)

Well if he wins this one, it would be one of easiest concerning opponents he was facing.
But he had nice draw at UO 2016 and couldn't take it. Still he kind of felt lucky to get to finals at all.

Yeah, but thats because Djokovic got better, not because Fed got terrible all of the sudden.
2) Murray is an easy match up for Djokovic everywhere.

Whay kind of an excise excuce is this. This only shows how good Novak is. Andy was at the time one pf the best playersl and if there wasnt for Novak, he would have won at elast 3 more slams. The fact that Novak is beating one of the best players almost all the time, shows you how good Novak is, not "oh Djokovic beats him all the time so that doesnt count".

3) Nadal is an easy match up for Djokovic on HC/Grass.

Same point, just shows you how good Novak is. What kind of logic is that. Novak beats him all the time so it doesnt count lol

I've considered it and I think it's a load of b*****ks given that Djokovic has never beaten Murray on grass (H2H 2-0 to Murray).

You basically completely ignored my main point: match-ups.

You do realize that Murray has lost the last 5 matches to old-Federer right (including at 6-0 6-1 beat down at WTF14 on home soil)? This is a matured/prime-peak Murray that you defined as great. Yet, younger Murray had much more success against younger-Federer.

My point? Recently, Murray is an easy match-up for Federer since 2014 and is 0-10 in the last 10 sets against Fed. If we Fedfans can choose, instead of facing Djokovic, we'd pick all day, everyday to have Murray as SF/F opponent for Fed at WB14 F, WB15 F, USO15 F, AO16 SF, etc. Why? Bc Murray is simply an easy match up for Fed, while Djokovic is a much tougher match up (besides the fact that Djokovic is better, he's simply much better at neutralizing Federer than Murray). By the same token, if I were a Djokovic fan, I'd choose that he faces Murray in SF/F instead of <31yrs younger-Fed.

Match-ups my friend. To be clear, I'm not taking any slams away from Djokovic. I just don't think Fed detractors should compare opponents with the the intention of demeaning Fed's slam wins.

I can concede this point. I thought about editing it for HC/clay only, but didn't. I was waiting on someone to bring this up, and you're the perfect one!

Grass matches between Djokovic vs. Murray, I guess I'd have to put it at 45-55, edge Murray.

Djokovic's comeback is basically complete. I hope your guy's comeback is complete by AO19. Top10 is tough, but I can see him in top20 bc he looks pretty good since US HC season. Just need a bit more fitness. :)

And earlier this year people were saying how pathetic and sad it was that he was losing to players like Chung and Cecchinato.

A mere shadow of his former greatness.

The way I perceive it is that he has slowly battled back, put in the hard work, lost to some journeymen but achieved his comeback, and is in the running for two slam titles this year.

Not bad at all, and well-earned—worthy of my respect.

IDGAF who he beats I want 14 and the 3rd US Open. Doesn't bother me if some guys on the web I'll never meet say he had a weak draw. He could beat Chris Fowler in the final and I'd be okay with it.

Embrace the #WeakEra with us Fed fans , we welcome all Djoker fans aboard our sinking titanic :D

Im not ignoring it, im just saying its dumb.

It doesnt matter. Murray has his ups and downs. When he doesnt play well, anyone can beat him. When he does play well, its very very hard to beat him. Federer was just better and thats it.

So by your logic, Novak in 2018 has cakewalk draw because best players are out, but when they are not out, then they are easy matchup for Novak lol . Most ridicilous point ever.

Matchups are more significant in lower rankings. For example Ivo Karlovic against someone who sucks at returning the ball. When it comes to very top and very best players, it doesnt matter that much, it just comes to who is a better player.

I mean ffs No1 beats N2, and you make an excuse how No2 player is easy matchup for No1 player, therefor No1 player had easy draw. Jesus Christ!

I thought you were being objective at first but classifying 2015 WIM vs Fed and 2018 WIM vs Nadal as easy is absurd.

This us open final will be a joke. It would be nice one time if delpo made it a classic match ala the 2009 us open final.

Says who? Being 5 years younger is always an advantage. Ask Fed of 2012.
IMO the best age for tennis is 30-32 on average. Federer peaked somewhere between 2012 and 2017, when he had to give his best effort to deal with both peak Djokovic and Nadal.

Everytime Djok gets an 'easy' draw it somehow doesn't count, are Federdone fans forgetting his AO '18 draw where he only had to beat Chung and Crying Cilic to win? Or last year at Wimby whereby he had the most cakeworthy draw on earth. Honestly, when Novak wins slams 'it doesn't count cos Fed is old' = stupid argument, he's been at his peak for years and Djokovic has been better. H2H doesn't lie.

The turning point was when Vajda came back into his team. From that point on, he started to play like his old self again.

Only feeding this kind of nonsense by setting up thread...I wonder is there anyway we could get a forum going for those who like to troll/discredit the big 3.....

There would be like five posters left here then. :)
