Fed confirms he will not play Monte Carlo

Fed said two weeks ago he would announce "after Indian Wells" if he would play clay. Now he's pushed it off until "after Miami."

Federer: "I won't play in Monaco, since I have the foundation trip [to Africa] at the same time, but after Miami I will decide if and when I'll play on clay."

Just curious, when did he say he would ‘make an announcement after Indian Wells’? Source?

I believe he said it in rotterdam

This is what I found -

“I guess by being here now, and maybe being in Dubai, it’s just going to have to be lighter if I play the clay-court season. Or not at all. So I just have to get into this situation a little bit, because the priority is for me to try to defend my sunshine double in Indian Wells and Miami. So, then we’ll see what happens with the clay, what happens next.”

He’s being a bit evasive, but if anything seems like it was always a decision after IW+Miami and not IW alone.

I know it sounds nitpicky, but I’m usually on top of Fed news. I don’t remember him talking about making any announcements after IW but before Miami hence the curiosity.

At the Laureus Awards, he already said he would decide after Miami (not IW). Also, Monte Carlo never was in the cards anyway, he said if he were playing, it would be only RG plus one tune-up tournament, so MC never was a possible choice to begin with. Nothing to see here. ;)

Next up, Fed confirms he won't be playing Barcelona?:D

Wonder if he will have another go at Rome (especially given Rafa's current fitness struggles)?

Fed is waiting to see if Nadal is fit for the clay season, before making his mind up. Without Rafa, he'll take his chances. I sincerely hope Rafa is fit and able to play.

does anybody knows if queen or any of the prince ever attended wimbledon or not

Queen returns to Wimbledon after 33 years

The Queen has visited the Wimbledon tennis championships for the first time in 33 years.

I don't ever remember the Duke going to Wimbledon. Rafa was one of the players chosen to meet the queen but he turned it down because he was practicing for his match so Andy Roddick took his place.

Nadal should be fit, and I seriously doubt Federer will play clay. If you are watching IW, and you saw that Fed match, you can see how Federer was struggling to hit through the court, and that was a hard court. His goal will be grass and the defense of his coveted W crown.

It never made sense for him to play Monte Carlo. I don't think even the folks who want him to play clay expected him to try that event.

It's either going to be Madrid-Rome-RG or Rome-RG if he actually plays clay. After watching today's match, I don't think he has much of a chance to do better than a QF at Roland Garros.

Yes, I am one of those who want him to play RG, but Monte Carlo really never was on the cards. Also the trip to Africa is a good thing (and the one really important thing mentioned by BeatlesFan in the other thread).

So I’m happy Roger talked about Africa, but not about chocolate and Prince Harry... :D

Lol with the field and the way he's playing these days, only Nadal will beat him in a best of 5 match. Which top player is playing well enough to take 3 sets off of him, even on clay. Even last year, he couldve made the RG final.
The problem is that if he does that, he wont be fit enough for the rest of the year.
I know it's a long shot but i would to see him play Rome and RG, just to see if he could make a run in the final, especially since Rafa is injured and Rogi has all the confidence in the world against Rafa. He could rest for around 2 weeks then and then start his prep for Wimbledon. I know he wont get any match practice before Wimby, but he's good enough to still beat the field in Wimb. Then, have a month long break, play Cincy and USO.
Just a thought

I think he can do it. We always say it’s 3 weeks between RG and Wimbledon, and that’s still not much. But we should rather say it’s almost 5 weeks until it gets really hard at the final stages of Wimbledon. I think just concerning fatigue he can win both. The question remains how could can he still PLAY on clay. But even there I confirm your opinion: He would only lose to an in-form Nadal (who is very questionable). So, as I often said already, he should give it a try...
