Fed confirms he will not play Monte Carlo

At least Rafa showed up to Basel that one year(2015) to take his beating in the final. Rafa is always more of a MAN and has no fear!

some days ago i was thinking about him playing monte carlo to get 300-600 points maybe and call it a clay season after that. basically just a week of extending his #1 lead and still have enough time to rest and prepare for grass,i mean who seems able to stop him other than nadal even on a clay court? it would have to be some spanish or latin american journeymen on a hot day as i dont see any of the other top guys doing it

Winning some points on clay is pretty much obligatory, if Federer wants to make a strong claim for YE #1.

Of course, that should be weighted against the other risks and I reckon Madrid is what he should play should he decide to play on clay this year.

indeed madrid is the best chance at making a run on clay, i was mentioning the monte carlo thing as it represented a strategy in wich he would play a clay torunament and then not play RG, that way he would still have like 2 months before wimbledon, playing madrid would give him only 4 weeks until sttutgard starts if we were ti assume he would not play paris

I think he can do it. We always say it’s 3 weeks between RG and Wimbledon, and that’s still not much. But we should rather say it’s almost 5 weeks until it gets really hard at the final stages of Wimbledon. I think just concerning fatigue he can win both. The question remains how could can he still PLAY on clay. But even there I confirm your opinion: He would only lose to an in-form Nadal (who is very questionable). So, as I often said already, he should give it a try...
Yup, give his all at RG, skip the grass tune ups (and lets be honest, he doesnt really need to play tournaments to be ready for grass) and be rearing to go at Wimbledon

Last year he could have lost to anyone of these Quarter finalists: Rafa, Stan, Andy Murray, Thiem, Djokovic, Nishikori from QF. MarinCilic and PC Busta are the other players who played QF. I don't think Roger would have lost to PCB. Don't know what happens if Roger plays Cilic in 2017 RG
Lol really? Did you stan in the final, or murray throughout 2017, or how Djokovic lost a set 6-0, or... I could go on and on.
Do you remember how well he played till Miami last year?

I can't believe posts like this. There is literally 0% chance of this happening. Fed has a lifetime contract to play Halle, aside from all the other facts disproving the rest of this content.

What about 2015 IW, 2015 Rome and 2015 Cincy among other potential 2015 matches against Roger? So Rafa was a man with fear all those times?

That leaves Barcelona as the next biggest clay tune-up event. The rest are all 250s. He's played Istanbul before and Geneva would be at home so maybe they are possibilities?
I've been thinking Instanbul for a while now. He's played there before as you said. Gives plenty of time to rest between HC and FO as well. Plus it could give him some confidence by not having to play under the pressure of a 1000.

Can’t believe people are taking this chocolate ad and wedding seriously, as if those novelties are really going to dictate his ACTUAL TENNIS SCHEDULE.

It’s laughable indeed. The Africa trip (during Monte Carlo) is a nice and important thing though.

But chocolate and a wedding? Come on...

Totally irrelevant compared to tennis. I wouldn’t even rule out that playing Rome is a nice “excuse” for not going to a boring celebrity show. He is a sportsman after all!

I was specifically referring to clay. So how well Roger played till Miami is immaterial. The last time Roger lost to Rafa or Novak in RG was in 2012. Since then he lost to someone or the other. That shows his clay vulnerability.

PS: I do consider Roger as the number one favourite for Wimbledon as of now. Not saying he will win certainly. Just saying that he has better chances than anyone as of now. He will a strong favourite in the next US Open and Australian open yoo. But at RG, no, he is very weak as of now

As FED fans we reserve the right to believe whatever allows us to be the most indignant.

I could maybe see the royal wedding, but not the chocolate. Something like that can be rescheduled.

It was just a suggestion. We all know what another RG would do for Federer's legacy. No need to get all worked up about it

How is he a weak candidate at RG? He's the second favourite there, surely. Distant second, but second nonetheless. Who's going to take 3 sets off of him, even on clay this year? Thiem? Please
And I say this as a Nadal fan

Did you forget what Stan did to Roger the last time they played at RG?

There's no evidence 2017 Fed was better than 2015 Fed on clay.
Umm... first off, 2015 Stan was way better than 2017 Stan. It's not even close.
Second of all, of course '17 Fed wouldve played better than '15 Fed. Please tell me how he wasnt better last year, specially if he was smart about it and played only Rome and RG on clay
