As an FYI for those interested, I got to see the white pair in person. The sole itself, and part of the inner side of the shoe is a lighter color grey, as opposed to being 100% white. I think it looks nice, but I'd prefer it to be all white.

I wonder if Jason from the TW review (@TW Staff) could provide a bit more insight about the fit. The video mentioned he has a wide fit but didn't much of an issue with the shoe. I, too, have a wide fit and had no issues with the 9/9.5 version but with the X, it felt extremely tight. I really want to like this version since there's no other Nike tennis shoe that fits my feet the way Vapors have in the past. I'm hoping the shoe I tried on was just a QC issue, so I'll likely be trying on another pair for comparison.
edit: I do know they make a wider version but Nike seemingly only has one option for style/color choice. If Nike offered up the other styles in the wide, then my concerns may be moot.

For me, the fit of the regular Vapor X wasn't an issue because the uppers are soft enough that the stretch out to accommodate my foot. I also don't have an extremely wide foot as I'm an E. So if you have a 2E or 4E, then going up to the wide version would probably be best.

More durable, enter fit for my foot, which I know doesn’t apply to everyone. For me they are better.

IMHO, the materials comprising the upper are cheap-looking. The 9 and 9.5 were premium shoes and the X kind of looks like a $80 discount version. I've purchased probably 35 pairs of the 9 and 9.5 over the past 6 years. I'm out. Tried the Court FF this week and I think that's my new ride.

Couldn't agree with you more. I'm so disappointed with this iteration. Vapor is the flagship tennis shoe by Nike and it looks like they sucker-punched us with this one!
Take one look at their basketball shoes. Premium design and materials.

COMPLETELY different application of the shoes. And a COMPLETELY different durability/support requirement. I love my KDs... but id roll an ankle and die wearing those on a court... or they'd last all of 5 hours.

yes it is possible. James Blake once said, he would totally destroy his tennis shoe in less than 2 weeks and he would need new shoes every 10-14 days and that was costing him ton of money. and once he got a contract with shoe company and started getting free shoes, it was heaven sent.

I may have to watch the review again but my impression about durability referred to the sole and when the reviewer mentioned he would wear through the shoe was possibly talking about the upper which at first glance does seem flimsier than the last generation.

Maybe I wasn’t clear - I was saying they make excellent products for their basketball lines, whereas this seems like a poor effort for Tennis. I don’t know if they didn’t want to pay/couldn’t get Tinker for the X or what - but they have the resources regardless to produce and excellent product for Tennis - which it appears they did not.

one of the reviewers said when you need the Grip on the court, it is there, but when you need to slide, you can do that too.

I’m not ready to go there yet - I’ll probably wait to go thru 2 pairs - but I’m still quite happy with them. I know not everyone can plunk down $140 to test a new shoe but I think if they did they’d be pleasantly surprised.
Agree. Need some context from that person; what shoes they’ve gotten reasonable wear out of.
Probably says he goes through barricades in 4 weeks.
Patiently waiting for the “Jordan” Vapor x to go on sale so I can pick another pair up. I am of the age where that original Jordan color is my weakness.

They are great in person and the color I am currently using. Sucker for all things Jordan colors. Not a big RF fan, so passed on the Lava Glow ones because of the RF on the heel. If I could have obtained the same as the pros have (without the big RF), I would have bought that color as well.

To provide some context, I was getting about 5-6 weeks out of the Gel Resolution 7s when it was my go-to-shoe last year, but that was to the point of wearing a hole all the way through!

Thanks for the compliment! Personally, I tend to wear out the toe on my left shoe from serving and sliding it forward on my backhand, but the right shoe isn't far behind. The rest of the tread pattern doesn't take nearly as much wear, and is usually still pretty fresh by the time I've worn through the toes.
I will say that I slipped once in the first week I was playing in them, and it was due to the shank plate ridge making contact with the ground! There were times when I thought I was stepping on a rock, but it turned out to be that shank plate. At the end of the playtest I could visibly see the wear on that area, but luckily it got shaved down so that within a few days of wearing them I wasn't having that clatter anymore.

Seriously i don’t understand all the negative customer reviews on tennis wearhouse. People these days all do is b.... and moan. I have had 2 playing sessions with vapor X and i absolute love it so far. From the first time you put it on the shoe clearly feels like a step forward evolution of 9.5’s. Beware that it needs a 2-3 hours break in period.
The general playability reminds 9.5 in a lot of areas. It’s less connected to the ground because the sole area is a lot more reinforced and bulky. It doesn’t plays soft (Asics shoes) like waking on pillows. It is stiffer than 9.5 but without getting vibrations and putting pressure on your knees. It’s mostly performance oriented and that’s why i like it. Yes it slides more than 9.5 but it seems also to be a lot more durable. Same quickness,acceleration and stop n goes with 9.5 and probably best lateral stability on the shoe market. The lacing system is weird to lock it down..it doesn’t let you squeeze them on your feet and you may feel not secure but on playability you will have no issues in terms of stability. Also the upper part behaves and feels exactly like 9.5. And ofcource I prefer the wider toe area....why everyone is complaining about that; Don’t you want more freedom and space for your toes ;

You know what I think it is, for me? I think I was spoiled by the 9. It boggles my mind that Tinker drew the shoe in ten minutes on his iPad. I think having him create a shoe for Tennis (vapor 9) raised the bar so high, that the next iteration was bound to receive some backlash.

Consensus appears that the laces may be shorter. I've had luck with aftermarket laces from lace lab if you need longer. Order laces from there to replace laces on my Asics shoes. Asics makes great shoes but their standard laces are turrible.

That rf air max 95 looks a bit odd with the Vapor X sole on it, just not used to seeing that on a AM95 i guess.

When I read about the above monstrosity being described as "brilliant creation" I start to doubt the sanity and aesthetic values of the people.
That is a great point. I love it. Not the silly clown colors but the lime green homage to the original, of course. Isn’t that so crazy about aesthetic values? One person can think it is horrible and the other beautiful. The ol beholder sitch. Too bad they will be gone before most (who want) will get a chance to snag em!

I gotta say I'm quite disappointed with these shoes. I've been wearing Vapors since what late 2010? Having bought 20+ pairs since then. I was at my local tennis shop yesterday and saw these, figured I'd at least try them out to see how they feel/fit even though I don't like the current color scheme. As much as the previous Vapors were comfortable from the very beginning, these definitely feel stiffer and nowhere near as comfortable. According to my sales rep, there's definitely a bit of a break-in period with these. Might not be as bad as my old CB 2.3/3.3 that I tried briefly in 2011 who were a huge pain to break, bad memories, but for the price Nike is asking for these, I'm not convinced.
It's a bit sad because the Vapors were my go ahead shoes, other alternative is the Air Zoom and it seems that they require break in as well. I'm not sure what direction Nike is going with their tennis gear (the Nike RF stuff looks atrocious this year), but they will most likely lose me as a customer.
