Serena boasting before Wimbly

It's the truth. Sorry, Serena gets the same pass as Federer. Except when Federer says it, it's not only the truth, but it shows he's confident. Double standard!

I think its a double standard too, when Federer says the same statement. I believe there are a lot of "Williams sister-haters" out there. i.e. Indian Wells and from what I've read in this board

Yuck.

Dude don't even compare Serena's comments to Fed. Fed would say he has a very good chance to win in top form. He'd display more humility (if not actually feeling it). Did Fed actually say something like Serena?

Serena on the other hand, has no class.

So in other words, even if Federer is thinking exactly the same as Serena is (which he very well might be) it's ok, because he lies when speaking?

I think people on this board are mad. Most people here agree that Federer is the best male player to ever play the sport, despite not winning nearly as many slams as his GOAT rivals.

Yet Serena was just as dominant- MORE dominant, in fact, than Federer ever was, however brief it may have been. She held all four GS titles at once, something Fed prob. won't ever be able to say.

So saying Fed at his best= best ever is ok, even accepted wisdom on this board. Yet Serena saying that at her best she's unbeatable= arrogant and cocky. Ridiculous.

Serena was dominant for 2 years. Roger has been dominant for 4. Regardless if she was even a bit more dominant, it was a flash in the pan dominance compared to Roger's. Also women are generaly more dominant then men. Look at how the women with the most slams titles are almost twice the men. Top 5 women range from 18-24. Top 6 men range only from 10-14.

I wasn't comparing their carerr lengths, I was just making a point- at a point in time, Serena had the GS in a vice grip. Much like Federer did last year.

Would it not be fair to say that at her best, she was the best female player of this generation?

The only difference is that Serena is no longer the absolute dominant force she was for those two years, yet she still goes on about how she is the best in the world when she is "on". Which has been in two tournaments in the last three years.

Yes without a doubt she is the greatest female player of her generation at this point in time, and in the top 10 all time at the least. As well during her dominant peak in 2002-2003 she was as dominant as any women had been since Graf in 95-96.

Well, add all her excuse-making and her "nobody can beat me when I'm in top form" together, and it actually adds up to make sense. Sure, she's not at top form all that often, but when she is--look out.

You could say "Well, anyone could make the same statement!" But it wouldn't be true--or nearly AS true--for a lot of players (I would even say "for anyone" save Hein). I would agree, in fact, that Serena playing her very best tennis--consistently over an entire match--would be nearly impossible for ANYONE on the WTA tour to beat. On the other hand, say, Daniela Hantuchova, who's a good player and all, can't make the same claim. Even on Daniela's very best day, I'd bet there's a decent-sized handful who can beat her.

All I'm saying is that love her or hate her, polite or not, Serena, in top form, is damn good.

So if she loses she'll just say she wasn't at top form?

Convenient.

Yes seriously... she needs to shut her mouth and learn to show some respect to other players. I hope she loses in the first round or gets 2 orders from the Henin bakery.

Please don't compare her to Fed, they are completely different in how they carry themselves and how they treat there opponents.

Top form is such a arbitrary point... Roddicks top form could be serving 100% he'd be unbeatable lol.

So what your saying is: It's okay for Rodger to say it rather than Serena??//

wow. everyone on here, well majority, really seems to hate serena and venus, is it because they speak the truth? It is the truth that serena can beat anyone when she is playing in her best form. And you say serena has bad sportsmanship, look at justine, if anything, they are the same, or justine edges in front of serena for being rude. I watched her at eastbourne, and she would be yelling her "ala" each time any of her opponents would net a shot, or hit out, even if it wasn't after a good shot from henin, or a long rally. And if serena is in her best form, she can dominate, look at australia. she dominated there. And Miami. Took her a bagel, and down match points, but she came back. Henin can't do that. She doesn't have the mental strength. But supersistions will be racing because serena's first match is on court 2... graveyard court. But no worries, serena IS confident, and nothing is wrong with that, and a confident, fighting serena is the best kinda serena out there, that serena is a 8 time grand slam champion, going for her 9th. :-D

Truth? How often does Federer win in last 4 years? 90% of time, so it is truth. How often does Serena lose in the last 4 years?

I will win Wimbledon if I play at my potential.

Ok. A little mental excercise. Take the best match you've ever played. Then ask yourself: It that enough to beat the best players on earth?

Then, if the answer is yes, ask yourself: How many times have I pulled off performances capable of besting anyone on earth?

THEN, ask yourself, how many times have I actually beaten everyone else on earth?

That's how you and Serena are different.

Taking just this year into account, Fed and Serena have had surprisingly equal years, with both winning the AO, and both going deep into the FO, losing to the favorite for the title. Both have won one of the most important non slam titles for their tours (A Tier I in Miami, and a Masters in Hamburg). Both are favorites for Wimbledon.

However, Serena has been upset exactly twice. One in a first round retirement after she injured herself, and another to Patty Schynder- which was on clay, so I'm not even sure if that WAS an upset.

Federer has lost to three opponents he shouldn't have.

Their years are pretty equal.

Im with sureshs, if i play to my full potential ill win every match i play as well. But in reality their is a balance, something serena doesnt seem to realize.

"How many times have I pulled off performances capable of besting anyone on earth?"

Ill be like serena, live in lala land and say ive done this many times.

"how many times have I actually beaten everyone else on earth?"

Lol, there are like 5 trillion people, how you gonna manage that?

Here is the tip ballboy, go for nothing but winners, make 50+ unforced errors which inturn cost you the match, then compare yourself to serena. Keep in mind on a good day, the 50+ will become winnners and not errors, thus giving you the match.

6 bilion people, for the record.

Fact: Serena held al lour GS at the same time, basically owning women's tennis. During that period, she was unbeatable on the big stage. Yes, or no?

If they play and Serena wins, I would like to see Henin say "all she had to do was come out on the court to win" but that would be arrogant and she wouldn't do that. I'm pretty sure she would give credit where credit is do, but either way she won't lose to serena and her big *** screaming mouth, not making fun of her weight but of her mouth haha. I more prefer Sharapovas screaming

Funny you say "credit where credit is due". In the Fo 03 semis, Justine refused to tell the umpire that she had her hand up, thus signifying a let. Afterwards, her coach said, point blank, that had it been any other player in the WTA, Justine would have told the umpire.

That to me= real lack of class and sportsmanship, worse than anything Serena has ever done.

And the British Empire used to rule the world - both are Ancient History!

And Roger didn't talk about treating tennis like a hobby and babble about acting (Serena "I'm really good at acting. I should be a superhero in a movie!") and fashion and ... And Roger didn't show up painfully out of shape at numerous tournaments.

This is just the 1,098,452 example of Serena showing a lack of class. Taught to her by her classless father Richard.

The reason why everyone is so biased against Serena is because she doesn't know how to give her opponent credit. Please tell me because I don't know, but has she even credited her older sister Venus when she lost to her?

Federer gets a lot more respect because he has the humility to credit part of his loss to his opponents play(when he does lose). Federer also doesn't say it with an "in your face, I pwn the whole tennis world, I can beat everyone because I'm Serena Williams" attitude.

Also, Henin seems to have become more humble than she was before, so you can't always judge her by what she did in 2003. The worst part is that Serena has never changed and is still not humble at all!

exactly, if you go for winners all the time when your on you win, when your off you don't. easy to say i didn't play my best thats why you won, what a convenient excuse.

as for the sportsmanship she grunts nearly as loud as sharapova every point... don't tell me thats her letting out her energy, thats her not letting her opponent hear the ball and its mighty distracting. James Blake and Nadal = grunts that come naturally from the energy they are using. Hmm cheating on every point vs a cheating on 1 point.

as for fed vs serena... he would probably say things like "I wasn't playing well today my backhand was poor, but to his credit blahman played a very good match" vs "I wasn't playing well, all the other person had to do was show up"

when has fed said after losing anything like "I'm the best no one can beat me when I'm playing my best" Actually I heard him say the exact opposite once something about nadal being the best clay courter.

It is ridiculous how much hate Serena gets. So what if she doesn't show up in shape for every tournament. Henin is even a worse sport but doesn't get as much criticism. I think there is some racism in why people pick apart Serena and her family.

Serena has not changed her banter since she joined the WTA Tour. She used to say the same thing before she ever won anything. People used to get mad at her then and say put up or shut up. Well, she has put up and you people have not shut up about her talk.
Tennis is an individual sport and if she needs to tell herself or anyone else that she is the best then so be it. I doubt if any of you would be making such a stink about this if it was any other than Serena that said it.
Grunting is not cheating, it's annoying. I don't care if it's the men or the women doing it, it's annoying. "Force of shot" makes Nadal and Blake grunt, give me a break.

Yes, we would. Just like the OJ case, if a famous white ex-sports star had gotten away with murder, we whites would have been just as outraged. I'd have a little respect for you if you would just accuse us of what you're dancing around...

And I don't really care what she says to pump herself up privately. But show some class when talking about the other women on tour to the press.

I've always watched tennis matches hoping I'd see the very best play from each athlete. If they give me that much, I then can ignore everything else that is said or done off the court.
