They need to re-write the rule first to put clear limits on what an umpire can do or else we'll get either more drama queen antics like Ramos or nothing at all.

A good rule of thumb is that when someone is protesting their innocence on the basis of "character," the facts of the matter tend to be against them.

You have been labeled by little tennis_hands a mysoginist; what's that? If he meant to label you a misogynist, then in this case wear the label
proudly. For little tennis_hands does not know what he is talking about. In this case you have every right to call out a loud-mouthed, sexist,
entitled mummy, race baiter.

You are a mysoginist.

Even your language is mysoginist.

Let me help you, please. Did you mean misogynist? Or, did you mean mysoginist?

Her coach doesn't speak for her and he even claims that she did not see him trying to coach her.
she probably didn't see him that particular time... but we all know there is coaching going on between them,, and Also every other WTA and Junior player with coaches. It is like as though who can send the signal without getting caught the best.

I knew those two tournament officials looked familiar today. Poor Serena had no chance!

Embarrassment is nothing new in USA, that is a known fact. Just look at the president of the united states, most powerful man and his daily rants. plus in Europe, USA is considered a country without a culture or any manners, worst in the world. and if you mention that to an American, they will just say,,,,"Say what ? oh who cares, I have no culture or manners ?? I don't care"....................... LOL

I'm sure he meant it in the nicest possible way.

Ahead of the 2018 U.S. Open Finals on Saturday, Alexis Ohanian shared a tear-jerking tribute video to his wife Serena Williams, who is just one match away from achieving her record 24th Grand Slam singles title.

She fought for her life, for our child, for recognition, for equal pay, for women’s rights. She never gives up. She’s passionate and unrelenting and the most inspiring person I know. I had this made for @serenawilliams last night after her match with some home videos from 1 year ago this week. Help me make sure she sees it! #iloveyouserena

We can only guess what the gesture means. It does not appear to be intuitively obvious. Given this, it seems like it almost had to be a pre-arranged secret signal to be of any use (despite what Serena claimed about secret coaching signals).

Patrick says coaching is done all the time by others, including Rafa. This implies that Patrick regularly does it with Serena. But that is difficult to reconcile with Serena's denials; she says she never looks at her box for coaching. Likes to solve her own problems on court. Probably would not accept coaching even if it was permitted.

Patrick did say he has never been called for violation, but that could be due to lack of enforcement by officials.

I think the two have signals. He works for her. What is the point of her coach signaling if she is not looking? Serena should just be forthcoming on that.

Strong Stephanie McMahon vibes. I feel a tribute video coming at the start of Raw.

Ha ha can't be beat for drama but I really felt for Osaka who was visibly upset and at a loss. This 1st slam win will almost end up being a trauma despite the fact that she played stunningly, almost flawlessly and deserves every kudo. (Not to mention Serena will get all the headlines. Kind of sad she is turning a phenomenal career into a neverending circus of megalomania, provocations and misbehaviors.)

Damn...well stated

No culture in the US lol. Maybe. We are just good at war

His story is two-fold: he coached by moving his hand but she wasn't looking.

Coaching could be defined minimalistically, I suppose, but it seems unrealistic.

It is an accusation of cheating, by the way, and not something that is conducive to calm play even in the calm player.

Serena told the umpire her coach wasn't coaching her but she could see how it could look like that.

It now turns out she lied after her coach confessed, so the warning was justified.

Don’t forget the racism card! Osaka is only half black, that means Serena was the victim of full black racism!

That's some seriously silly article here and ,believe me, I am not being sexist, it's just a metter of fact assessment..What's the so called "proof" to do with what happened yesterday? what happen yesterday was that this terrible jerk called Serena Williams kept on abusing that umpire guy till he was, finally, forced to do what he would be supposed to do i.e. his job and apply the rules. Everything is to do with sexism nowadays it seems. Even when a woman in a position of power abuses and humiliates a guy who is trying to do is job, even this apparently, has something to do with sexism, was the consequence of what??.. Of sexism, of course!

Or it turns out she was mistaken to defend him.

But yes the warning was justified regardless since the rule is a strict liability one.

As to the topic, I never liked Patrick and I've said so before. He has a creepy Svengali vibe to me. So I wish she'd kick him out, but I doubt she's going to. Part of the problem, I suppose, would be not wanting him to work for anyone else as it might render her especially vulnerable to that player.

Can you imagine it's impact on both WTA and ATP ? What has history taught us ?

Edit: Sorry for editing poll, I made a mistake and now there are 2 same options that can't be erased.

This is shameful statement from US Open. A phrase "for verbal abuse in the judgment of the Umpire" should have never been used. The right one would be "for verbal abuse" period. They try to side with Serena as much as possible. Serena is one of 2-3 possible female GOATs, but she is clearly wrong in this instance.

Rest of the world and European country suck up to USA because it is the most powerful and richest country in the world. but they all say americans have no manners or and don't understand culture. these are very important values although it isn't talked about much here

And people think the French Open crowd is bad, puts it in perspective somewhat doesn't it. Nice one for ruining what should be the greatest moment of this young woman's career all because of a an umpire making a decision that is correct under the rules of the game (whether there is consistency among it or not).

We have culture. Its different because we are such a young country. Everything originally came from somewhere else and we made it our version. Not everything, but a lot of things.
