Tracking shows that the racquet is in a facility in the suburbs but delivery still shows Thursday. Maybe will get lucky and get it earlier

Just got my mid in the mail! I'm really loving the paintjob. Definitely one of the best prestige PJ's. One of the first things I did was take off the butt cap.... and it was something I've never seen before. Looks like the trap door is weighted. Mine weigh's 7 grams exactly. My stick weighed in at 318 grams. Just strung it with Gamma TNT2 Tour 17g mains at 51 lbs and Babolat RPM Team crosses at 48 lbs. I have a match tomorrow in which I'll be using my Youtek Prestige MP but will hit with this a little bit as well.

The trap door is the same shape as the new Head sensor made by Zepp that comes out in January. All new Head racquets will be compatible. Actually this trap door is used on some of the current Head racquets. This will be the first sensor that does not change the specs of a racquet.

Will we be seeing any videos from the Windy City?
I don’t have any video equipment like a GoPro camera. I can just do iPhone video but that depends if i can find someone willing to come over and be the camera dude. I will see if I can sucker someone into doing that ;)

Send me a ticket and I will hold the camera or come to Atlanta for a visit!

The 2018 HEAD sticks have the trap doors weighted to accommodate for a sensor they’re putting out later this year. The sensor takes the place of the trap door and is the same weight. So, your racquet should swing the same and not have a giant bump at the end of the handle like other sensors.

Received my mid last night. Should be strung and ready for play by Saturday. Looks great, felt super as delivered. Putting Lynx in it strung very low to protect my elbow. Head (no pun intended) pro where I play, as well as other shop guys were a little in awe.

Apparently getting my tour today, 1 day early delivery. I am ready to send it to the stringer as soon as i get it.

Initial thoughts on the Mid hitting against a ball machine, also some rallys with my wife.
It feels really nice =P. The control is amazing. I can literally T off and hit a flat line drive the ball from the baseline with more accuracy than i've ever had. Not a high percentage shot but just amazed how accurate it is. Swings fast, amazing control, but lacks that punch (as expected). Volley control was there but it doesn't feel as nice as the RF. Keep in mind the strings are the same (dropped tension a bit due to headsize). The racket is nice, but not enough to take the starting position from the RF.

I will continue to use EXCLUSIVELY this stick for the next three weeks to give it a full test drive.

The true test is hitting with my usual hitting partner. I'll report back later this week.

No such luck for me. Still waiting on mine which is in Wyoming the tracking shows :( - hopefully it delivers tomorrow as scheduled.

It really is quite fluorescent :(
Oh I don't know, so far from the pictures I have seen, I really like the PJ to be honest.

Thoughts on the color scheme, @topspn? I'll give my final verdict when I get the stick in hand. Edit: just saw your response above regarding PJ. Thanks.

The inside of the head is glossy, other then that flat, perhaps the lighting. The PJ seems stealthy to me with exception of Orange lettering. I like orange so I don’t mind at all.
I have a feeling with black strings it will look pretty awesome.

hmm..how about white? Thinking of stringing with scorpion but does anyone have any thoughts on Lynx or Hawk Touch? I have played with regular hawk which is a pretty nice poly but never tried touch version or lynx.

I have played with Lynx a few times. Felt it gave way to an erratic string bed at times. Did not like the feel either and I can definitely name a few strings which I feel are a better bang for the buck. I plan on using my own strings for a more consistent playtest anyway. I know you played with Head Hawk a lot previously. Lynx is more softer, less crisp playing and more slick than Head Hawk. Played at around 50lbs in my APDC and TC100 (70 RA) and comfort was good. On paper it should give more control, but I really felt it was lacking in the control department. Spin was good. Pretty average string overall, in all honesty.

Although personally I am not a fan of the cosmetics, I like the upper portion of the hoop. If anyone is familiar with the IG prestiges, there is checkered weaving of graphite (not sure if actually is the material or just cosmetic). With the new Graphene Touches, the same pattern is there but there's a dark red clear coat over it. It didn't notice it till I was on court with the lights shining on it.

The only way I can describe it....it looks like the racket has a thin layer of a red jolly rancher. Clear shiny dark red color. *Shrug* i'll try and take a pic for you guys.

Pictures of burgundy/red strip especially for @SpinToWin ;)

Specs:

Measured on kitchen scale for weight, and table method for balance (until I go to local pro shop where they have RDC). Plastic and cardboard inside hoop were removed.

Unstrung Static Weight: 316g
Unstrung Balance: 310 mm

I will include strung specs in my detailed, final review.

Some Quick Observations:

1. Unstrung swinging in air and taking some ghost shots it feels good and maneuverable for a racquet of such static weight. Much easier to swing than the two MGPP I have in my bag right now. As mentioned above, I will take to pro shop with RDC soon and measure both strung and unstrung specs. It came in 4 grams less than advertised 320g - within the tolerance range. Balance was spot on.

2. I will admit; PJ is a little underwhelming. I was hoping to be wowed which I wasn't. Just to give you guys an example, by comparison, the black RF97A had that holy sh** factor coming out of the box.

3. Racquet looks beautiful still. Most definitely orange on the inside like @topspn said earlier. It might look like it is bright and neon-ish in pictures but definitely not the case when you hold in hand. In the end, just a matter of personal preference really. For me, how it plays will be a much more important tell.

4. For @moon shot, definitely a slight gap/split at 12 where grommets meet (I remember you asked that question not too long ago). I added a picture too.

5. Coming from playing a 98-100 sq inch for the past few months, the 93 sq inch head size looks similar in size. Will be able to tell better how I adjust once I take it to the courts.

I plan on playing with this stick starting tonight and taking notes. Will include everything in my final review once I have given the racquet a fair shot. Keep a lookout for the final review. Until then, feel free to ask if any questions.

Ohhh they reused the subdued deep red graphics in the upper hoop of the IG Prestiges
