Ivanisevic: Djokovic gave Nadal a "tennis lesson", claims he's never seen Nadal so "powerless" at RG

Please.

In 2011 Vadja was parading around the streets of Europe with no shirt on after Djokovic beat Nadal on clay for the first time!

So...
He is acutally very soft according to some English club football fans if i recall. Dont remember the detail but he got confronted many years ago in a Belgrade bar. Nothing happened of note other than i do remember something about him not standing his ground or something. It was on a fan forum site but i cannot remember now which club it was.

Wimbledon 2008 was a final bud. But Federer 3-1 Nadal at Wimbledon. The reason W2008 is significant is because 20-20. Should be 21-19 Federer.
RG2020 right now is as big as W2008.
I mean how else is 20-19 explained? Last major final between Nadalovic was FO2020
The last final was a week ago. And yeah, that was the final

Sorry bud i think you will find on wikipedia it is down as a semi final.
I get RG2020 still stings which i did warn about if it got to 20-19. Djoker fans have to grit their teeth and ride it out for perhaps 3 weeks longer. He is huge fav at W so if he wins there that will soften the blow if he joins Club 20.
Right now VB enjoying the bragging rights.

This was totally unnecessary :cautious:Novak and Rafa have played so many times against each other, it's my favourite rivalry, each has beaten the other so many times. Whatever their interpersonal dynamic - and that's something only they individually know, the rest is just speculation - it's clear they have a lot of respect for each other.

Srdjan is already there to make these outrageous comments. Hardly needed Ivanisevic to make these kind of triumphalist remarks, tbh. He should check with Novak, who's said so often that Rafa is his greatest rival.

Very good post. Just a little bit of gloating from Ivanisevic. He just goes on and on and doesn;t stop.

Backfired though. Will have made Team Nadal laugh. RG2020 still clearly stings. Basically a sf win never can compensate for a final. Goran knows it. Plus due to RG2020 it is 20-19. Goran the master at own goals

I hate to break it to you, but there is a new RG champion. Djokovic went back and won that after getting thrashed last year, and did it in stellar fashion. I know you need to keep bringing up that 2020 match because it's the one Nadal won, but we are in a new year.

So many butthurt Nadal fans whining over a quote from some poorly-translated interview given to an obscure local sports magazine. It would be funny if Goran was gloating with the intention of ruffling some feathers, but this was clearly an out-of-context quote from a casual conversation and with a fair amount lost in translation. It's like some of you people are just looking for reason to be offended. And no, pro tennis players in the latter stages of majors don't require extra motivation in order to perform.

Yup, this is true. 2020 would obviously be a sting for Novak, and 2021 was the same for Rafa. It's illogical to say he wasn't affected by it. Toni Nadal himself has stated, not only that the loss was a big deal, but also that some measure of alleviation of disappointment would have come only had Novak lost to Tsitsi. We all know who the Champion was this year. I think we can all safely conclude that Toni knows more about the thinking in Rafa's camp than TTW posters do :)

You all are missing the point I think. This is aimed at Novak. Novak wouldn't say this stuff but now he is forced to back up this talk. He will be pissed at Goran because he trash talked and put Target on his back. And you know that Novak plays better when he is pissed

Yep. Rafa got Djokovic in 2020, and then Djokovic went back got him this year. Trying to make 2020 seem like the more important match just because he's upset at the result of this tournament is going to change what happened in 2021.

This reminds me of something.

"Goran hated the US"

Aren't Srdjan and his crew always whining about how "the West" hates them and isn't being fair to Novak because he's a Serb?

That sh1t sounds more like projection every day.
Why wouldn't he? I mean I am living in US but I am also aware atrocities which US is doing abroad. Superpower is gonna superpower

He already has a target on his back.

It says #1.

If this doesn't push Nadal to whoop his a** I dunno what will. Poor move again Goran...
Also, what's with this lack of humility? Honestly talking like that is just gross in my opinion and could negatively affect Novak's already poor public image without him having done anything wrong himself
Why is it a poor move? Djok wants and needs to have the best competition out there. Why would you have him run away from motivated Nadl? Give me the best version of Nadl in RG final no matter the cost. If Djok wins - bravo! If he loses - OK again. Geeeeez, the kids want it all - easy!!!

Goran Ivanisevic believes Novak Djokovic played "perfect" tennis and thoroughly outgunned Rafael Nadal after losing the first set of their Roland Garros semi-final clash. Speaking to Tennis Majors, Goran Ivanisevic said he was confident a repeat of last year's final would be avoided once his charge had reeled off three games in a row. The Croat even went on to claim that from the second set onwards Rafael Nadal was "powerless" in the face of the World No. 1's assault.

"What happened in the second, third and fourth set… I have never seen Rafa so powerless at Roland-Garros," he added. "I feel like Novak could have won the third set sooner, but overall, his tennis was perfect."

According to Ivanisevic, the Serb was "not ready" to face Nadal in last year's final, but turned the tables on the Spaniard this time around, handing him a "tennis lesson."

"I mean, I have a right to say what I want to say," the former Wimbledon champion said. "I had my own reasons; I am part of Novak Djokovic's team and it is normal that I believe in my player. This year, he gave a tennis lesson to Nadal. I am not gloating; simply put, last year Novak was not ready, but this year he was mentally solid and prepared for the battle."

Lot of gloating by the Novak camp it seems. Should they not wait until next year? What if Nadal comes back and beats Novak at RG?
Dumbass Goran is gloating too much....he need to prepare for excuses when a repeat of 2016 Wimbledon takes place this year for his student.

Goran gloating is a bad look, sure. I think he should have avoided it. But there isn't much chance of the latter part of your assertion - that's more a hope from your side, I think. Let's see how it pans out. :)

People whining about some innocuous Goran comment...Osaka and her deviant boyfriend stood on the US Open court and flashed America the finger. Do we hear anybody complaining about that or does she get a free pass for vulgarity.

Goran looking for any attention he can get. Always has been, always will be an attention seeker...

Tennis lesson hahahaha, he very nearly lost the 3rd set against a version of Nadal that was in the form that I would describe as a bit better than 2015, but a lot worse than 2020...

Sorry bud, it really was the final. And it finished in a virtual bagel! Poetic, if you think about it. Nadal went from winning the first 6 games of RG20 match against Novak (and winning in straights), to losing a set 6-1 in Rome (but winning the match), to winning the first 5 games of the 21RG match but only to lose it in 4 sets and losing the final 6 games. At each step Novak got better and better.

here, I’ll leave you with a pearl of wisdom:

Djokovic cannot beat Nadal on clay. 4 of last 6 sets on clay have been 6-0 6-0 -6-1 6-2 to Nadal.

;) ;) :-D

In 2020 Roland Gaross final Novak was injured (left arm-shoulder), in 2021 semi final Rafa was injured (right leg-foot).
Both of their teams exaggerated how great their level was in beating their main rival.

Seems as if he’s pushing back on the usual “I was injured” stuff from Rafa. Good move
Hmmm....that hadn't occured to me. Yeah, maybe this was his response to all the oblique injury excuses being made, but to be fair, Rafa himself has not made that excuse. IMO Goran could definitely have been more circumspect.

Of course, tagging someone with body shots to win the point is a legitimate tactic. However Nadsy wasn't aiming simply for a body shot: he was aiming at the head, and that is nasty and otherwise completely unnecessary. Yes, like I said, if one goes that road (of provocation) he should expect something in return.

Not sure he was really aiming at the head, it's not easy to aim on those kinds of shots anyway (from experience). In any case, I agree with the rest

Yes, because lashing out on Djokovic for someone else's words is totally a legitimate and mature thing to do.
I think pegging someone with a tennis ball and lashing out are not quite comparable. "Lashing out" is more like chasing the opponent around the court trying to hit them with your racquet

I'd have more respect for Djokovic if he came out and said this himself. He hides behind lackeys who have been chatting **** for years and says that he has no control over them. Yeah, right.

If this year’s was a lesson, what was the previous year’s one?
Ivanisevic is a moron, if we are polite with him.
Lessons were what Rafa gave to his fellow ATGs in RG 2008 and 2020 finals.

Djokovic gave Nadal a tennis lesson ??
It was a close match and could have gone either ways.

Goran is a weird old attention seeking man . He is like a TTW member living life through his favourite player ( Novak ) .

Djokovic-nadal is the biggest Men's rivalry and there is no need of trash- talking .
Let the two men live in peace after battling it out for almost 15 years on tennis courts . Why to create animosity between them unnecessarily ??

Although I didn't like Toni Nadal's comments in the past , I wouldn't want Djokovic's coach to do the trash talking against any player .
This was unnecessary !

Marian Vajda is such a classy coach . Becker was great too . I don't understand the need of Goran , especially when he speaks such bullsheet !

Bud virtual reality does not actually apply in real life. I know RG2020 hurts. I warned it would become even more painful if it was 20-19.
Djokovic may win a few more Majors. But as of today RG2020 is the albatross.
RG2021 was the semi final. Look it up if you dont believe me.

It is 20-19 lol. RG2020 therefore more significant. If they ended on 20-19 RG2020 will be the decisive match. So Novak has work to do.
