The "What's Wrong With Her?" Thread

Yes, but Kvitova's form has been the best out of everybody in this tournament imo. If Kvitova can keep it up (and that is a big "if" from her lately), she should win the tournament.

Yikes. Kvitova is full of errors today. Where are you Kvitova? If Wozniacki wins this and makes it to the final, good for her! Don't mind either player. As long as Azarenka is out, it is all good! ;)

lol not once have I ever said I hate women's tennis. I actually watch it all the time. Doesn't change that 90% of the players are a joke. I'm sure you will sit there and defend Safarova losing when she was up 5-1 in the 3rd set though. Solid tennis right there.

Do you class Radwanska as a joke?

No, I actually enjoy watching Radwanska because she doesn't just block the ball back in play. She uses angles and waits for her moment to strike. She plays smart because she know she doesn't possess the fire power that players like Serena and Sharapova have.

Giorgi just smacked down Schiavone. Surprising result. No, then again, this is WTA. No result is surprising outside of Serena getting double bageled.

Her groundies were Serena/Petra like today - big and bold, this girl has no fear and has good composure. Gonna keep my eye on her.

I give Schiavone a pass. One, she is the most entertaining player to watch on the women's side. And two, she probably should have retired by now. So anything she can win at this point is gravy.

Its not really surprising. Schiavone is primarily a clay court player. Even the year she won the French and reached like #4 she didn't do much on hardcourts outside of the US Open QF. Her game does not transfer well to hardcourts at all, even Woz can overpower her on hardcourts. Not her surface.

I saw Giorgi play in a $10K or $25K womens tournament in 2011. She stood out to me which is why I made sure to find out her name. While all the other women were staying at the baseline just hitting rally shots until someone made an error, Giorgi was very aggressive and was frequently coming forward to the net trying to end the point. I liked her game. My only concern for her future was her size. She's like Maria Kirilenko's size. She can hold her own but I think against the big girls if they are playing well she'll be overmatched.

Another women's choke job, this time by Jelena Jankovic. Jankovic was serving for the match at 7-5 5-4 against Shuai Peng but just lost the 2nd set 7-5.

The women's game is just a mess right now. Serena is the only bright spot and to some degree Clijsters. Oh, how I wish Henin didn't leave the game so early...

Li Na has been in 7 finals since 2010 (when she really emerged). She either wins in straights (3 times) or loses in three (4 times). At least you know what to expect from this headcase.

JJ Double Fault on her own match point. Typical JJ. Typical WTA.

And Peng takes it in the 3rd set TB. Someone please put JJ out of her misery, or put her out for good and take her misery away from us.

Peng beat Jankovic.... I regret not being able to watch this mess of a match. JJ needs to take the rest of the year off. Heck she can take Kuznetsova, Zvonareva, Ivanovic, and Cirstea with her.

Sometimes V really suffers from her condition. Her eyes look very 'sunken in' at times. Looks like she should make it thru this match...

McHale wins the first set 63...then drops the 2nd by the same line..and now is down 0-3 in the third to Chanelle Scheepers. I like this girl but she still has a lot of work to do to grow.

And McHale retires....win for Scheepers. 36 63 30

McHale is okay and has potential. But she really needs to stop trying to be the American Wozniacki. At this point I'd put money on Stephens panning out better than McHale or Vandeweghe.

Something tells me the 92-95 group will be Generation Yuck. It's a hot mess already. I thought any of Mladenovic, Garcia, Robson, Watson, deBrito would be progressing further than where they are currently. Ashleigh Barty might be schooling this batch of players.

Vandeweghe is a non entity. She got a ton of hype and she can barely make main draws at tour level. She has awkward bordering on ugly strokes and her movement is stunted.

Of the Americans I agree that Stephens may be the one to watch. She certainly has guts, good groundstrokes, her movement is ok (she does not look like a buffalo trying to do ballet on clay at least). I like McHale but she is to easy to intimidate...she looks afraid half the time.

Of all the others I think Robson has potential. I have watched her play and I think she needs to get the "Britains future female hope" pressure/fear under control in her head. She did well with Murray at the Olympics so maybe that will help her out.

Robson and Watson have both made decent strides this year. Watson making her first slam 3R and Robson making a semi on clay a few weeks ago. Robson just lacks power and probably will only be top 20-30 at best.

It's an older woman's game now. I'd expect to see alot more players winning slams at age 24 or older than age 20-22.

This Stosur match is another turd. Since serving at 4-1, Garrigues has had game or break points in every single game and yet she's now let the lead completely fade. So now we've gone from 4-0 to 4-4 and it's looking like 4-5 in a second.

Also ridiculous? That US Open champion Stosur is being pushed to three sets by clay-court specialist Garrigues.

I regret watching it. JJ served for the match at 5-4 in the second, was up 4-2 in the third, and had 5 match points in the tiebreak. Credit to Peng though for fighting hard.

Stosur has not been playing well at all. Completely different player than the woman who won the US Open.

Add Camila Giorgi from Italy to the Generation Yuck to look out for. She plays Sloane Stephens in the next round. I'm looking forward to that match. Two aggressive baseliners who don't seem scared to come to the net.

Coco looks like she was forced into playing tennis. Her movement is not so good, she struggles to stay in shape, and her forehand has a longer wind-up than Goerges. She's a very poor Davenport clone in every manner. She did make her first tour final recently. Still, she hasn't really improved in the 3 years I've been hearing about her. Unless proven otherwise, her and Oudin are just hype. Maybe she'll crack the top 50, but if she wants to get better she'll need to push herself, not have her mom do so.

I disagree about Coco. She has something that 95% of the tour doesn't and that's a big serve. She can routinely serve 110+mph and this will be a major weapon for her. I think she has the most upside but time will tell.

With each new generation, they seem to be playing just to play, with no real talent, focus, or avoidance of the same, one-style-fits-most form. The WTA will suffer a great deal when Suck and Yuck are the standard bearers for the field.

Just because she has a big serve does not mean she will dominate, look at Brenda Schultz-McCarthy. Coco actually reminds me a lot of her. A big Serve is nothing if there is nothing to back it up. If it was enough she would be top 20 by now and she is no where near that level.

Kvitova down 5-1 in the first set to Barthel...

Barthel is just as streaky as Kvitova. It would not surprise me to see Petra lose because we all know she hates humidity. Then again I was shocked when Kvitova WON a North American summer hard court event.

Well I disagree that Coco has "nothing" else besides a big serve. She hits hard off the ground on both forehand and backhand. Schultz McCarthy truly had nothing but a big serve. While I agree she doesn't have anything near the natural touch of a Davenport and I don't expect anywhere near as successful of a career, I don't think top 10 is out of the question for Coco.

I do think Sloan Stephens is a natural talent and may have the best results.

I'd rank Sloan and Coco having the most potential (both potential top 10 players), and then a gap with McHale (possible top 25) behind those two. Oudin (at best top 40). Not at all impressed with Falconi or Davis who are 3rd rate grinders.

I just tuned into the Barthel v Kvitova match. Petra looks as though she is about to keel over in the heat and humidity.

and it's because of her "asthma", right?

Kvitova pulled it out as Barthel double faults on match point. As far as I know, Petra does have asthma. I have seen her use an inhaler while on the court. I don't know if that is the reason or poor conditioning or lack of aclimation to the heat and humidity of North America. But she clearly has trouble during the summer here.

Venus looks like Raggedy Ann out there. Her condition & Cincy heat do not mix well.

Too bad she didnt get an evening match!
